No other piece of music will ever achieve the epic combination of wonder, tranquillity, mysteriousness, loneliness and creepiness that this piece has.
Super Metroid is the BEST in the series, I have to give Metroid on NES the 2nd best with Prime (1) coming in a VERY close 3rd. Gumpei Yokoi (hope I spelled that right) R.I.P, created a masterpiece with Super Metroid
This is my favorite Super Metroid piece! However, the one person who didn't like it, is apparently all alone in doing so, all alone, just like Samus... :)
I respect your guys opinions, but i don't see how anyone can think other m was terrible. I thought it brought all the elements that made these amazing 2D games fun into a 3D environment. I actually bought it with low hopes because i didn't care for prime as much as these good old classics, but once i started playing i was hooked.

@watts1260 Eh, the game was a bit weak across the board, or at least in comparison to other 'Metroid' games. Even compared to 'Fusion', it felt pretty easy and on rails. The art direction could have also been so much better, and to me, a lot of it felt unsatisfying.
It's still a good game, but it's not something which I could see myself coming back to.
@DeedMDavid Yeah, my only complaint would be 1. It wasn't all that difficult compared to the NES game and Super Metroid. 2. It was way to short. And 3. The tedious "find the minute detail" annoying parts that I could see no real point in having included in the game. But as far as the art goes, that doesn't play a huge role in whether I like a game or not, just a bonus. But I think it's a good base to make future Metroid games. I'd prefer this style over the FPS Metroid games.
I'm very surprised to see this music is one of the favourite of Metroid fans. I always liked it very much, but I thought people would think me silly, because this music is slow, calm, peaceful and beautiful, not a fast rock one. I'm really glad to know people still enjoy calm musics like this one.
@twilightsonic Because FF7's music sounds NOTHING like Super Metroid's. Not only that, not all the music in the game fits the correct atmosphere or scenario presented in 7. In Super Metroid, it seems to go together perfectly, no matter where you are in that game. ESPECIALLY in the Wrecked Ship. FF7's music, as iconic as it is, just doesn't work in a lot of places.
@twilightsonic Disgraceful comment. Super Metroid's music, in terms of sheer quality, is far superior to FF7's. FF7's is much more iconic, but this is just better.
I love this song. It was basically the only song, besides Lower Norfair, on Super Metroid that didn't creep me out, surprisingly; However, it give me a depressing and sad feeling, and it makes me want to cry. That's why I like it so much. :)
i invite you to see my trance mix test of maridia, i hope in this week i finish complete. but you can enjoy the melodie of lower norfair trancemix i perform. only click in djkabraDJKABRA to go to my channel and enjoy and comment. bye
When I was like 8 I remember my Mom makin' me breakfast while I played just a lil' bit more until I had to go to school. I can practically smell pancakes right now. I also smell weed.
exactly what i was thinking.. i remember genuinely being scared and wanting to gtfo out certain rooms just because it was so eerie and empty. the mood and atmosphere really gave you a sense of loneliness... that was somehow lacking in the mp series.
The thing with Maridia is that its like giant maze you go one way you might end-up out of the area, and if you g another way you might find your way to draygon (or not)
OMG THE MEMORIES!!!!! CREEPY, YET SO ATMOSPHERIC! Great tune. Fit well with Super Metroid. I wish the Metroid Prime series was as atmospheric as Super Metroid. I love metroid prime but... I miss that super metroid feel...
Maridia is my favorite place in the game because of the atmosphere, this music of course, it was underwater, and it has my second favorite boss in the game. DRAYGON!!!
This music is so relaxing, it gives a creepy yet refreshing feel to it like you are meditating, in a lush, quiet forest, somewhere where you are all alone. I like it.

Anyway, I agree with lots of the stuff posted below. It's creepy as hell, it works good at putting you to sleep, reminds you of the bloody annoying quicksand, the loneliness, etc.
All in all the entire Metroid Soundtrack (and the game itself) was just so damn captivating... It all worked together to really pull you into that suit of armour.
Hell, I actually felt like I was that metroids father in the end :x

I know what you mean. This place scared me when I was younger...but it also pissed me off because of the second part of the level with the quick sand...ah good times.
this and underwater frigate from prime 1 can make me go to sleep..its so soothing...now that i listen to it closely...it sorta sounds similar to the underwater frigate theme..
Play Metroid Prime. Prime 2, Prime 3, and Hunters stray from the series a lot, but Metroid Prime is absolutely amazing and similar to Super Metroid in a lot of ways.
ZSNES for the win, especially as it allows people to play the Super Metroid Redesign which is incredible, it is like playing the original for the first time again. The feeling of not knowing where to go and freedom of exploration is great.
I liked the original Prime game, only because it was so long since Super Metroid and I needed my fix of bounty hunting.
