  • guys- what if there was a girl on your baseball team who pitched better than any of the guys in the state (or town, team, etc.) and with her, you would go to the championships. Then would you be hating on her? I am a girl and I still agree with the whole keep genders seperate, but lets pretend she's good enough to take the yankees to the world series, then would you be so scepticle? I don't think so. opinions?

  • Comment removed

  • shes actually not

  • i bet she would never let anyone get to second base, giggity giggity no

  • That is so sexist! god! y is it every time that a girl says she wants to play baseball it's always "well girls aren't strong enough. or. guys are better. or... it's not a girls place?" well I'm going to practice and practice my whole 8th and freshman year! and then I'm going to get on that GUYS! baseball team! and finally belong at my stupid school!! and no stupid sports caster is gonna tell me otherwise!!!

  • UM, Jackie Mitchel, Carie Schuller, Ila Border........ Jackie Mitchell infamously struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in 7 pitches. Females capable of competing at the pro level may be few and far between, but they are there. ... Just sayin'.

  • When I was little, I wondered why I couldn't play baseball. It's so sad.

  • Two words: publicity stunt. It's good for the gate, and that's why she's there.

  • I never understood softball... why can't girls just play baseball? I always felt insulted that I had to play with the big, goofy softball instead of a little baseball.

  • i'd love to see WNBA, aka WNBL, versions of baseball and football, hockey is the least of all, but posible, but i believe you already hav leagues for that.

  • she is cute, like my ex girl friend, i'd love to... well have a fun night :)

  • Hopefully, one day, we'll be over stupid gender divisions in sports.

  • @Ragitsu, the only thing that's stupid is that some people don't understand reality. Do you have any idea how great the gap is between the sexes in sports? Here's a clue: The women's world record for the mile is 4:12. The boys' American HIGH SCHOOL record is 3:52. The divisions exist for a reason.

  • If we want true equality, we won't have these "divisions".

  • @Ragitsu, ah, that's the rub, isn't it? You see, Rag, I never said I wanted equality, because I know it's a lie. Yet people today, and you seem to be of this mind, accept equality dogma unthinkingly and then want to subordinate reality to it. I ask you, how realistic is it to preach equality when the sexes are obviously unequal? (Please refer to the stats I provided below.) Should we just deny reality because it doesn't conform to our prejudices? And prejudices are what they are.

  • @Ragitsu - if we want true equality, then women would simply be denied the possibility to participate. Men naturally outperform women, that's nature. The nurture aspect is that we teach men from an early age not to hurt or touch women inappropriately. So turning a sport mixed hurts it, because the women are outperformed, but they throw off the balance because many of the men will refuse to compete against them (as example: Joel Northup).

  • She isn't the first female pitcher to play pro baseball, a pitcher by the name of Ila Borders pitched for the Duluth-Superior Dukes in 1998, the St. Paul Saints in 97 and Zion in 99

  • she studied wakefield and then one day she met him actually and they had a convo he help her out and everything uh this is the last time you hear of her.......... OWNED!!!!

  • She is my idol! I'm the only girl that plays in my city's league! And i play with 8th - 10th grade boys! and the stupid high school coach won't let me play on the team! how stupid is that?? im already playing with half of them!!! and this isnt some stupid fake story. Im rlly serious!

  • @sk8ting4lyfe, I wouldn't let you play either. You're a girl - start acting like one.

  • @EternalAnachronism yes i am a girl and and playing baseball doesnt mean i dont act like a girl. playing baseball shud be a thing that girls and boys can do. wud u hav a problem if there were a girl on ur team that was just as good as u or better? just because ur scared to be over shown by a girl doesnt mean u shud take it out on us. and if u had a girlfriend that played baseball wud u be telling her the same thing??

  • @sk8ting4lyfe, well, since I used to be a professional athlete and was better than the best women in my sport (that's not saying much, as the gap between the sexes is huge), I'm not too worried about a girl showing me up. And, to answer your question, my girlfriend knows where I stand, knows her place, and she agrees with me. As for you, you certainly won't be showing up any guys - or anyone else, for that matter - with your writing. I've seen 11-year-olds who are better at English composition.

  • She starts tonight! Go Outlaws!

  • These guys are stupid as fuck. Chico Outlaws RULE!!!

  • If men were allowed to play in the womans league there'd be no women in the league.

Stay in your own sport to make it better so people can watch that. If all your best players want to play in a mans league then your league will suck,

  • When are we going to see a guy playing in the women's league? Fair is fair. Bring Piazza out of retirement.

  • Japans rocks!

  • Have you ever seen one of those WNBA games? They play for like 5 seconds before they stop playing and start exchanging recipes.

Women's sports just do not work!

  • another pro minor league pitcher- Mamie Peanut Johnson. Plug that name into search, youtube has an interview

  • yeah, cause baseball is such a strenuous sport.... i hope she makes it!

  • Hey Cenk, go watch A League of Their Own. There's a female baseball community that could develop into a league one day.

  • This is baseball, not like its a physical sport anyway.

  • "It hasn't happened before"

Someone not allowed to play in a certain league being allowed to play in a certain league?

  • Women will never be allowed to play in pro ball, I'm not against the idea, it will just never happen.

  • @TheUSMetalhead blacks never played before jackie robinson.... whites never thought that would happen, hopefully if this girl is good enough, she'll get in

  • @TabbiBmore Blacks did play in the majors before Jackie Robinson, but VERY early on. Not all whites thought blacks would never play in the majors (again). For example, it was a white guy who decided he wanted to get a black player to break that barrier, who found Jackie Robinson, and who decided he'd be the best available to play that role. No knock against Jackie, who was a great person & a great player, but it was a white guy who put him in the position to be the guy we all remember today.

  • @MotherFuckYourFaceHo

    lol funny

  • @ thebitcher01 They don't suck as bad as your typing.

  • Not gona happen.

  • @UltraComboer L O L

  • DUDE CHICO!!! I LIVE HERE~!

  • wow I was getting my hopes up I bet she is just there to bean dudes and not worry about getting hurt. but the real plan is the team owner has already bought the rights to the movie and is just letting this play out.

  • I'm not rroting for her. Women to not deserve to play sports with men simply because they suck! They cannot compete. So fuck off, take a bowl of yarn and knit a nice sweater for the cold winter.

  • @UltraComboer 2) Adrenaline makes you do funny things, and honestly, I am sure major league players get it on alot and aside from the hormones issue, the testosterone flowing too, and any women joining these leagues will have to have tough skin to be accepted and not whine about everything.

If they go in there to play the sport and end up ruining it for 95% of the people there, there will be such a backlash, women wont recover from it for decades at least.

  • @UltraComboer This is the problem

Its sounds great to be progressive and say men just have to keep their hands off or whatever people consider respecting the woman, but sports is an adrenaline deal, and your asking 2 things of men

    1) now men cant enjoy things as much since they have to act different around the women. Men and women will always have a different mentality about things, its nature, not nurture, so its wrong to ask them to have to tip toe around sports, which is all about enjoyment

  • What? Just not likely? How likely was it that we would have a black president? Unlikely things happen all the time. And only seven women in America would want to play professional baseball? You really said that? Have you not seen A League of Their Own? If there was a professional female baseball league, I can guarantee you, women will be lining up to join.

  • It might happen it isn't like it's football or hockey.

  • if she's a good pitcher by pro standards, she definitely belongs on the field

  • its baseball it could happen but if it was football thats a different story

  • I wanna play in the WNBA. It's only fair. This whole gender whatever league... We need to start disbanding professional women's leagues or start letting guys play in them or something.

  • hahahahahhahahahahaaaahaahhahahahahahhahaha ehy am i laghing

  • that is incredably sexist In sure people said the same thing when women wanted to be other traditionaly male thing

  • I don't think she will make it in the bigs, not because she is a girl, but because she is a pure knuckleballer by the sound of it. I mean, Wakefield is the exception, apart from him who was the last pure knuckleballer that anybody remembers? Niekro, mabe?

Always a chance that the Royals or Padres sign her to draw fans, they badly need the help. In any case, if she does turn out to be amazing, I'll definitely root for her in the bigs though, nice to see another barrier get broken down.

  • It's funny how clueless a lot of you are. I would bet my life that she doesn't play in the MLB.

"If she can pitch 65-80 she should be fine."

Lol, if she were in Junior High. She's 5'1'' for christ's sake. Knowing basic principles of biology and evolution doesn't make you a bigot, btw.

  • Time, experience will make the difference. All this talk about women not being tough enough for sports with men is bunk. I have yet to see a man able to pass a 6-7 lbs. piece of screaming flesh from his inards and live to tell about it. As for the butt slaps, I say she should practice returning that also...as hard as she can. Boys just don't really want it to happen because there will be some that she'll be way better than and they will never be able to say at least they play than a girl.

  • "Boys just don't really want it to happen because there will be some that she'll be way better..."

Talk about stereotyping based on gender, you sexist :D

  • Well half the players in the major leagues are girls anyway from all the steroids they take so I don't see a problem in letting an actual girl in. If she can play at their speed then why not?

  • why not, hockey had a female goalie at the NHL level....

  • @TheTwistedGypsy Really? What was her name?

  • @JBradshawful ~manon reaon I believe, not sure if I'm spelling it properly she was a french girl. She played for tampa I think. I have her hockey card in my collection, but I'm to damn lazy to go upstairs and dig it out of the mess.....lol...I bet if ya google it though it will be there some were...peace up bro :-)

  • @TheTwistedGypsy ~I found it ...heres the proper spelling,MANON RHEAUME

  • @TheTwistedGypsy ~1st female to play in a NHL exhibition game (Manon Rheaume, goalie ...23 Sep 1992 ... 1st female to play in a NHL exhibition game (Manon Rheaume, goalie) for Tampa Bay Lightning - gives up 2 goals on 9 attempts in 1 period ...

  • @TheTwistedGypsy ~put her name in the youtube search theres lots of videos about her :-)

  • She won't be fine, she's average at best, if she was amazing some how it might be worth a club investing some time and money in her, other wise she would be nothing more than a publicity stunt, the Sara Palin of sports, and that would be a travesty.

  • There is always a first person for everything.

    :P

  • i hope she proves me wrong that she wont be making it to the major leagues

  • @UltraComboer She might not be able to throw the ball as fast... However because of this she might be able to pull out some sick throws....

  • awsome i love japan

  • I hope she does make it, though. That would be great.

  • If they think this will revive Baseball they're kidding themselves. Soon we'll have our first female cheater in the sport.

  • 1:28 lmfao

  • oh hell yeah i'm from chico represent

  • @loner2fly Both. 60 mph is incredibly slow. I know 14-15 year old kids who pitch and hit at that speed.

  • Guys her fastball is 63 mph. She ain't gonna cut it. Pitchers in minor leagues can throw balls faster then that.

  • @Tatchko she is a knuckleball pitcher...who cares how fast her fastball is

she pitched in japans minors and az winter ball league...facing guys...and got them out

she could make it as a late inning specialist

  • @brabon1 You need more than one really good pitch. If that's all she's got she ain't gonna make it. I'm not saying she shouldn't try, just don't get your hopes up. Look what happened to Michelle Wie, in the years since she said she was gonna play with men she's only made the cut for a male event once. And she's never made the cut for a PGA event.

  • @Tatchko only need more than one pitch if you are a starter or a long reliever

late inning specialists can have one great pitch and a secondary and do fine

if her knucker is as good as they say...she can make it

she is young...lets see how she does in the gbl and if any major league teams give her good scouting reports

  • I think it'd be great if she can do it!

  • what shouldnt happen though is say girls wanna play football in highschool, schools are strapped for cash and are forced to fund both equally even though the female league wouldnt be as succesful, it drags down the male league with it both suffer. if there is a small demand so girls have to be on male teams organizations should not have to change the way things run to accomadate the small female participation.

  • who's she playin for?

  • Well with a knuckleball you don't really need as much arm strength, so I guess it's possible.

  • tim wakefield sucks, so if she even is as good as him, she wont be good

  • She's kinda cute.

  • If she does have the skill and isn't allowed into the majors then I'll gratefully protest for her and other women to get that right. Until then I wish her the best.

  • @TheSirJecht if anything, they would make a league for women, but i doubt it since not many women would play baseball, this isn't high school where they mix in.. ur talking bout women rights? they have em.. its call another league

  • @aznbl4ckdud369:

I don't see why they need another league to allow a few female players or simply just the one. Also no I wasn't really talking about women's rights but more so the added entertainment value of watching steroid induced men and women hit a ball with a stick.

I say steroid induced because that's how I want it to be played. My end goal is selfish but heart is in the right place.

  • lol 1:25 -1:31

  • If she's got what it takes, I hope she goes all the way. Probably not going to happen, though.

  • Actually there are a lot of younger girls playing baseball now...

  • First of all baseball is not a contact sport, basketball IS. Pitchers don't even hit in the majors. If she can pitch your right, that would be a great story. The only thing is if she strikes like A Rod out he'd probably be like "yeah I wassn't trying blah blah" the male ego.

  • A knuckleball goes from 55 to 75 miles per hour. Anyone who thinks she can't make it to the pro's is stuck in the last century and needs to catch up with the rest of us in 2010.

  • She is not the first female to play pro baseball in the US. After Jackie Robinson and a slew of other players left the Nego Leagues and began to play in Major League Baseball, the Negro Leagues used one or two women to draw people to their gates.

As far as this young lady making it to the major leagues it's possible if her knuckleball is really devastating.

  • Every team needs a locker room slut, someone to gang bang after a tough loss, or a great victory

  • if she's able to compete let her play

  • sexist jerk. :P

  • baseball isnt really a contact sport.. let her in!!!!!!!

  • yoshida.... quite a lineage

if she can do she can do....simple....

sexist idiot there was first time for everything

  • Comment removed

  • As long as she can play and don't get any special treatment then YOUGOGIRL! However, I don't think she's going to the MLB unless she is one HELL of a player! Haveing a girl on a team of guys and playing against guys is going to me biologicly tough on her and the potential for a lawsuit is high so I just don't think she is getting a shot if she isn't %150 better than any male player

  • @ginko27 In USA, you can file Lawsuit for everything.

Its a girl who want to play baseball, not a girl who play American Football. Only time you get hit hard on baseball is with the ball. It hurt, and its a part of the game. She probably took a few ball in the face before. Its all for the sport, not for the sex.

  • @RubiusFail I understand what your saying, but the sad truth is that she's a risk all around. She should be judged by how she plays but the first time a guy touches her when she's sliding into base, she's got a million doller lawsuit filed on him, the team, and MLB. Even if she loses, no other team will take her so then she'll sue for discrimination and they'll have to settle out of court. So that's why she's not going pro. I wisg she would but it's not going to happen unless she's super good!

  • @ginko27 She could do that anytime and anywhere. When you play a sport, you have to understand the risk of the game. I dont care if the guy touch his ass or boobs. She was going for the goal and she got touched. If she dont want to be touch, then go play Badmitton.

If the guy really do something outside the spirit of sport like kissing her, then yea its Sexual harassement. But a tap on the ass? Its normal and a tradition.

  • @RubiusFail I agree with you. I wish she would be able to play but it's just not going to happen until the discrimination lawsuits are not as strict. They are designed to HELP women break into new jobs and give them oppertuinity, but they have been turned into a get rich quick manual for minorities and women. Most women are complete profesionals, but it's the few who do this crap that ruin it for the group and prevent PL like her from getting jobs such as this.

  • @ginko27 goood point however I must say that I think women should stay out of all guys sports-and the point you made is one reason why. Theres a reason why guys have ruled most sports.........

  • are they allowed to smack her ass?

  • @BlackMetal951 hahah your funny bro!!! haha lol homie

  • @BlackMetal951 hahaha. they want the rights they have to take em all

  • @BlackMetal951 lol Im sure after a few smacks she will hang it up-and maybe even try to take some of the ass smacker to court-in which shows the dam point women need to be women and stop trying to be....well men sheeeesh! lol

  • give her a chance, maybe she'll make the majors

  • The only problem I'd see with having female players on male sports teams like that is just accommodations for them

Either they'd have to share the locker room with all the men or a new locker room would have to be built for them, and if someone from the team gets involved in any way with her it could eventually lead to a lawsuit

  • It has happened. Manon Rhéaume played in the NHL.

  • ur an ass hole cenk.. stop hating on her...

  • @midgetman433 He dont hate on her, he's realistic. Major leagues are Male at 100%. One girl tried to play Hockey for Florida as goaler. She played for one year and on the bench for 80% of the time.

A girl going inside the National sport of the USA is as likely, as the USA to get a Black President. It might happen, but with alot of resistance from the conservative.

  • @RubiusFail she has a chance if she gets to triple A

  • @RubiusFail so you're saying that its is likely as USA getting a black president? lol that did happen btw. lol

  • @derekhennett3333 and it over 200 years to elect a black man also.

  • she's hot, ...I think im going to start watching baseball

  • I suppose it is possible for a woman to become a pro-level knuckleballer. It doesnt require the ability to throw with high velocity. I mean, she doesnt have a snowballs chance in hell of making it, but I think she does at least specialize in the one area where it might be possible.

  • does she shower with the guys :p ?

  • Shes going to feel awkward in the showers

  • @slitrobo Or horny

  • @sweYoda The Japanese sure are advanced...

  • omg.....

Watch what happens when she gets hit by a ball.....

  • LOL this is stupid.... I can't wait till they have females in football I wanna see some "I can do what men do" females get FUCKED up with reality

  • She can pitch me my food from the kitchen.

  • Basketball is probably too physical for a woman to participate in a professional male league. But pussy-ass baseball? I can somewhat picture it

  • @sgtStones my thoughts exactly

  • @sgtStones

I'm guessing you're a pussy who never played baseball ;-P

  • Anything is possible YES SHE CAN lmao if she takes roids and spends all ofl her free time in MC Donalds

  • @missionkid Any free time in mc donalds is a waste of time.

  • Yawn.

  • imagine some hot ass major league woman baseball player on an all guy's team..do you know how many time's her ass would be patted from guys saying "good job'? lol

  • Cenic is such a chauvanistic ass somtimes.

  • Comment removed

  • @SinnFein4ever

cuz he doesn't think a woman can play in the mlb with men? your a dumbass

  • She can be a dynamite pitcher, but they expect you to bat, run, etc. If she can also do all that then fantastic, but we don't know and I kind of doubt it.

It would be awesome if she did join the pros, though.

  • @matman125 i guarantee you that if her pitching score are awesome, they will not care a bit she sucks with the bat

  • the knuckleball is an art form. If a woman can master it, regardless of how small she is or other physical factors, she's got a good chance of doing some damage. Cenk and Jayar are being dicks.

  • @Ricciuto27

So what else is new? ;)

  • @Ricciuto27 ill give you that they were being asses about the story, but their general point was spot on. While being able to throw a knuckleball is an art form...being able to throw it over 85mph at a 200 pound (possibly roided up)monster who can knock it out the park no problem requires the male physique, while i would dearly love to be wrong, i really doubt her arm strength is on par with a Halliday or Sabathia or even a 2nd rate mlb pitcher

  • @Ricciuto27 She still would be throwing the knuckeball significantly slower than a man, which would hurt the amount of movement of the knuckleball considerably. Wakefield also throws a 75 MPH fastball throughout the game to keep hitters off guard. It's unlikely that this girl's fastball is even faster than 60 MPH.

  • @bluechipnl You're right, her fastball is around 63mph and her knuckleball around 50mph. But she's only 18 years old and maybe could beef up those pitches. The chances are slim, but if any women could get to the MLB, it would be a knuckleballer. She also throws sidearm and the combination could be very deceptive.

@feedyourmind420 Dude, who is throwing a knuckleball 85mph?

  • Jayar: TAKE THE PEPPLES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!!!

  • golden baseball league is fun....of course they are doing this for publicity

but it would be cool if she gets to the real minors

  • Never say never.

  • rofl cenk is such an asshole, laughed my ass off.

  • Cenk was a bit of a dick here but... meh... pardon.

Am I not merciful? Am I NOT merciful???

  • There was once a woman goalie in the NHL...though they only played for one period.

  • @Dane42o that was a publicity stunt, she played for one period of a meaningless preaseason exhibition game, it was just to get some PR about the Tampa Bay Lightning who can't get butts in the seats

  • @feedyourmind420 I'm aware. ^^

  • the level of competition for pro basketball, baseball, soccer, mma or whatever is so high that it is very rare to find a female that will be able to compete with males. it would be cool as hell to see a female represent, i would be rooting for her, but realistically..... come on...

  • See, I'm kinna with Cenk on this one.

I mean, I'm female, but... I have a difficult time picturing a female pro-baseball player in the major league. I'd LIKE it...but I can see it being quite the controversy, and I have a difficult time picturing that old boys' club being willing to allow it.

Women are perfectly CAPABLE to playing in the majors in my never-humble opinion, but I have a difficult time seeing that glass ceiling broken.

  • i am surprised to hear that there is no female baseball league in the USA.

Mankind still has a long way to go.

But if this girl can compete with the male players, go let her play!

  • Who cares about this boring and stupid sport?

  • The best women of any sport is usually below par with the worst man of any sport.

  • A girl playing in the baseball major league? What will be next? We will allow negroes in the NBA???

  • "Keeping it real" is not the same as being a pessimistic, cynical douche. It's talk like that which gives justification to sexist arguments.

  • @Ryvensan Women are physically inferior to men in almost every way. Women have the coordination to be competitive in things like gymnastics, but in activities that require raw tests of strength or speed, they can't compete. It's called sexual dimorphism. Just be glad we're of the genus Homo where dimorphism is only 10-15%. In the other apes males are often twice the size of females or larger.

  • @Phoboskomboa As a general rule, yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you. However, there will be exceptions, and those exceptions shouldn't be discounted and hated on based on the rest of her gender. If she has the physical capability to do it, and she can hack it with the rest of the guys on the team, then let her. Otherwise, it's discriminatory. Should we not let men raise children because men are less nurturing than a woman naturally is?

  • @Ryvensan I think you misunderstood. I'm all in favor of women and men competing on even footing where possible. If she can hack it in the majors then let her. It'll be amazing. I'm just saying that I doubt it's going to happen.

I feel sorry for women who want to compete physically with men. My sister spent several years of her life studying martial arts, and she really wanted to be able to compete with men. I've done a tiny fraction of the work she has, and I'm much stronger and faster.

  • @Phoboskomboa your sister is probally not built to be a fighter. i for example cant throw a hard punch but i can take punches for hours on end (prbly from my fiber myalga or what ever its called) and i wait for an opening and get ina kindey shot or something then pin them or stomp their asses, all depends on the situtation. some people cant take many hits but can throw a mean punch, while other can just run like a cheetah.

  • @minipancho94 Actually she has a pretty good build. She's about 5'9 with wide shoulders. The problem is that I'm about 6'2 with very wide shoulders. If someone with my body type had her drive they'd easily be a professional fighter.

That's one reason I don't care about sports. 90% of it is genetic luck. You might as well be cheering for people while they play the lottery.
