Making tougher sex offender laws and penalties and restrictions will solve absolutely NOTHING. John Walsh should be ashamed for ruining peoples lives with his draconian AWA of 2006. Did you know that MOST registered sex offenders are people who engaged in consenual sex with their BFs or GFs who were underage; people who flashed, mooned, streaked as pranks; people who urinated behind a dumpster?  Did you know that 95% of all registered sex offenders are ONE time offenders and never reoffend? Did you know that the public registries don't protect anybody? Think about it, and educate yourself before you make statements like this.

I agree with that totally. Violent predators should be either in jail or monitored closely. What my note was referring to, though, was the THOUSANDS of people listed on registries who are NOT perverts, pedophiles or predators. Law enforcement cannot monitor the truly dangerous ones when they are spread so thin watching every guy who had consensual sex with his GF, streaker, etc... People are basically harmless.

Most truly violent predators in prison really don't get out. 95% of all sex crimes are committed by someone who is not even on the registry. They are essentially "new" criminals. Of all the offenders who have been released from prison, only some 3% ever reoffend. Law enforcement does a pretty good job of keeping the truly dangerous ones locked up. Everyone else should be allowed to go on with their lives as long as they don't reoffend, just like murderers and other criminals are.
