  • Hi! thanks for the tutorial, I do have a problem though. I am broadcasting my iphone's MyWi, my windows 7 laptop can see the network, but my Toshiba Thrive (3.1 Android) Tablet doesn't see it, i even tried manually adding and connecting. Any suggestions?

  • I'm not sure why you're saying that we need to jailbreak the iphone...i have an iphone 4 and have been tethering to my tf with no problems using the personal hotspot option in settings. It creates a recognizable wi-fi access point and runs smooth as ever (one difference is that the dl/ul rate doesn't show though)

  • you sound like an acter

  • I have the legitimate $20 version, updated. The odd thing is that when I connect my old iPhone to the MyWi, it works, but the tablet doesn't. What ports, etc. do you have for MyWi? (what Wi-Fi MyWi settings)?

  • if i do this with my iphone for on my pc/laptop is this an unlimited connection to the internet or does it stop working after a certain amount of time

  • @dakid192 it's unlimited but be careful not to go over your data plan limit if you're tethering using your provider's 3G data. The connection might fail every now and then depending if you're in tunnels and areas with satellite connection issues.

  • Hi. I did as you said, but when I connect to the iPhone 4, I get wifi, but don't connect to the Internet. In fact, instead of blue wifi bars on the Asus Transformer, it has white ones. Help!

  • @48MrJeffrey I just tested it again today and I got blue bars when I connected to my iPhone. Did you download the right version of mywi on the cydia app store? i don't know why you're not being able to do it if you followed my steps, doing the wi-fi tethering should be pretty straight forward, easier than the bluetooth one.

  • Can I do this with Galaxy S instead of Iphone 4?

  • @JumboSquid I don't see why you couldn't since it's an Android smartphone. You just need to find an app that transforms your Galaxy S into a wi-fi hotspot and then you can easily tether, but if you can't find the app, you would have to ask your provider to enable internet tethering on your phone and they'll charge for that :(... look up android wi-fi tethering and I'm sure they already have something similar for Android :)

  • @JumboSquid Your Galaxy S can do this out of the box. No Rooting or Jailbreaking required. Go to you Wireless and Network Setting and click on Mobile AP, then just Click the Check Mark and your done.

  • I tried it but my transformer tablet won't see my iPhone hotspot. I googles it and found out that android won't read the wifi spot from the iPhone so how did u do it? Also i only have wep, why do you have wpa2?

  • @oniadrian You probably don't have the same version of MyWi that I do. Go to Cydia and download the latest version. 2 weeks ago, I was having the same problem you're having now, my TF couldn't see the iphone cause that MyWi version could only create an ad-hoc wi-fi. Believe me, it works. I don't know why it's not giving you a wpa2 option, like I said, I can only think that your version is not the latest one.

  • @alextamulis Alex, what version of MYWI do you have? I've tried 4.61 and Asus didn't find the hot spot either. thanks

  • @soundall I have 4.61.1, same as yours. I just tested it again and it worked, I don't know why yours is not working, but I'm gonna guess you set up your hotspot on the iphone incorrectly. Turn on WiFi Hotspot option, make sure you create a 10 digit password and use WPA2 preferably. Make sure the tethering bar on top is working once you do that. This app is now a paid app, so maybe you have a trial version that crippled your wi-fi hotspot feature. If nothing works, uninstall and reinstall it.

  • @alextamulis Ive read that wpa works only on Iphone 4, and that might be the reason that why my transformer doesnt see the hotspot from 3gs.

ps. other devices connect to the hotspot

  • From all that I have been reading, the GPS on the tranformer works without data. I don't think you need to use data.

  • @magicsmack I guess if you download the route first, you can do offline navigation. But even if the GPS works offline, I don't think you'd be able to access information on new routes if you're offline. I'm not sure about that, though. You can also by thos paid apps that have cached offline navigation as well. I guess there are other options out there but tethering works really well for me.

  • @magicsmack that's correct, from wiki " The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that provides location and time information in all weather"

  • I wish I could find someone with an easy way to bluetooth tether the Droid Incredible to the Transformer! Your video works great,....for someone who has an iPhone! Lol! Sorry, I'm a bit frustrated.

  • @BabyDiego10599 I wish I could help you but I've never owned an Android phone. I've seen people tethering the TF to a Motorola Atrix and a HTC one which I can't remember the model right now, so I know it is possible to tether to android phones.

Hehe, the iPhone is a great device imo, a bit overpriced as all things Apple but I really like it (jailbroken, of course)
