  • Excellent movie and great retrospective of someone who are no longer among the living but his soul and act still survive amoung the fans. Hilarious with his wild movements from 02:05. :)

  • jim carey rules as tony

  • who was the mysterious tony Clifton irl at this time?

  • "Andy? You guys want to see Andy Tonight? Anybody got a flashlight and a couple of shovels?" Man that line kills me every time!

  • Wow .How`d you get that information

  • Tony sucha spaz at the end in the best way

  • The third Tony!

  • syyyyyyyduh!!!!!! 0:51-52 LOL!!!!

  • wanna see andy tonight...anybody got a flashlight and a couple shovels....lol

  • I'll probably get flak for this, but I think Jim Carrey's incarnation of Tony Clifton is funnier than Andy Kaufmann's.

  • totally agree!

  • I think that Jim Carrey was the perfect man to play Andy Kaufman in a movie about him.

  • @tehmode I know what you mean. And no disrespect to Andy, who as the originator should get full credit. But Carrey's version has that passive-aggressive, over-the-top quality to it. Maybe Andy in real life was just a little too nice to make this character so caustic.

  • @tehmode only if Dave hops in and has a problem with it. For me, it's just the times and you can't waste time picking the performances apart.

  • If I might opine, it seems to me that Andy specifically counted on people in his audience being offended or shocked in some way. Those who "got it" or were "in on the joke" (usually after the fact) were in the minority and not what he would have wanted his core audience to be. Otherwise, obviously, many of his bits would not work. Therefore I suggest that those with whom his true fans take issue with are missing the point, and wish they could experience Andy for the first time (again)...

  • In the spirit of Andy Kaufman this entire internet argument was staged.

Let's all shake hands and have a pleasant day

  • If you think Carey is better than Kaufman you are a really dense person. Congratulations on missing the point of the movie. Utterly disgusting.

  • obviously they havn't seen the movie or are just stupid ifd the think this is Kaufman.

but they're right that this is funnier than the real Kaufman.

    which makes you wrong.

    and you are.

  • No, you don't understand what Kaufman was about, you disgusting moron. Kaufman never said he was funny or tried to be funny. He was a performance artist, not a comedian. Love it when the uneducated jackasses try to contribute. Sorry that sailed above your sloped brow.

  • you now, some of the comedians i really love i don't really see as comedians, i see them more as social commentators, i liked the idea of how Andy would mess with people, but that's my point, i saw some of his stuff on here & it wasn't as good as the stuff in the movie.

so although i respect & love his creation/discovery of the concepts originally. they were executed far better in this movie.

good to have a sloping brow, thoughts spill out through it quicker & easier.

    lol, fucking loser.

  • Kaufman was real. The movie was fake. Do you not understand that? You can't compare the original person to a movie. Good lord what a moron.

  • "If this is Carey it is really great. Better than Kauffmann and Zmuda"

"this" is referring to Tony Clifton.

Carrey's Tony Clifton is better than Kaufman & Zmuda's (from the little i've seen).

also i made the distinction between Kaufman as originator & Carrey as predecessor in my last post you idiot.

"i respect & love his creation/discovery of the concepts originally (but) they were executed far better in this movie"

    slope-browed morons ftw!

now fuck off you pretentious cunt

  • Wow I've seen a lot of trolls but you're a nasty little one aren't you. You make no sense, you're uneducated, unlettered, and think arguing on the internet is some great pastime. I don't know whether to pity you or start a prayer group to pray for your death. Very sad.

  • yes.

if by troll you mean someone who makes a point simply & clearly & proves you wrong beyond all doubt.

funny, all my posts had a point yet your first was an insult to the other guy. you tried to stand your ground with me, found you couldn't & had to throw out "TROLL!" because that's all you've got.

next time you want to call troll, wait until the other party deviates from the subject 1st. lol

slop-browed, moronic, nonsensical, uneducated, unlettered & still pwned you so easily. oh dear

  • also could you define "arguing" for me & show how it is acceptable in other contexts other than the internet?

oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...

    *shakes head*

  • You need me to define 'arguing'? Ok. it's A discussion in which disagreement is expressed; a debate. It's useful in challenging uneducated morons' prejudices, and in political debates...did you not know this? Were you trying to sound smart? Do you even know what you're typing? There is a very special place in hell for you, my mentally ill guttersnipe of a moron! Sheesh. 'Shakes head' indeed.

  • You didn't pwn anything except stupidity. You were wrong, anyone with an above room temp iq understands that. Good god are you black or something?? Christ you've got a pathology.

  • someone just made a pwntage =]

  • Carrey did a spot on job as Kaufman it was perfect this scene is fing funny

  • i like & respect what he was doing but this movie was funnier than the real Andy Kaufman.

Carrey doesn't do "a spot on job". he's funnier.

  • Comment removed

  • thats not Zmuda in this clip from the movie, it is Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey played Andy/Tony in the movie, and he does Tony better than Zmuda

Zmuda doesnt do Andy justice when he plays Tony because he is too angry/mean. thats how Tony is supposed to be, but in a comical way. Zmuda just doesnt pull that off tho.

Andy is dead. lets quit playing goofball. The genius has died, and he is and will forever be missed. Celebrate the genius that was. Dont play games anymore. Andy took it with him.

  • I 100% believe Andy's dead, but at the same time, if Andy kept going, people would have caught his logic and people would have liked him because of his style of pulling pranks and tricks, Andy didn't want fans in that way. So he could have faked his death so now he's pranking people that caught his logic of pranks and tricks. I still think he's gone but it's interesting to think about.

  • is there anyone of you that can explain me the ending of this beautiful movie? It's not clear for me! who's performing Tony Clifton in this part? Is Andy still alive?? please help me??

  • every time i see zumuda in this scene it brings a tear to my eye.

  • yup. me too.

  • A perfect ending to one of the best biopics ever. Jim Carrey idolized Andy Kaufman and REALLY wanted the part(So much that as famous as he was already, he sent in an audition tape like other lesser known actors).MANY actors wanted to play Andy but it came down to three; Jim Carrey,Edward Norton, and Jim Caviezel. Director Milos Forman couldn't decide so he left it up to the studio, and they picked the most bankable of the three.Who knows how the other two would've done, but Carrey was fantastic.

  • Mind blowing!!! But in a good way. "Gutsy. Heart-felt. A soaring Tribute!"

  • Great man that Andy Koufman (RIP). By the way Jim Careey too :)

  • "At first, I was afraid --I was putrefied..."

    ::ROFLMGDMFCSSOBAO::

  • ( i mean on the movie i know andy kaufman is death im not stupid)

  • hey i know a lot of people will call me asshole or dumbass for askin this question but i dont get it

andy really died and there's a REAL tony or it was a joke again and he still alive xDxD

  • There is no real Tony. It was one of Andy's characters.

As for whether Andy died... depends on who you ask. The fact is that Tony Clifton still performs, though most people believe it's Bob Zmuda.

  • You gotta wonder what Shapiro and Zmoda were feeling during the actual Tony Clifton performance after Andy's death

  • Probably like puking. In a joyful kind of way.

  • Legend

  • thanks...if anyone can fake a death andy can..the best of all time bullshit...but i agree with Drr..

  • i heard some rumours about 'Andy Kaufman' shows up at the very end of the movie beacause he faked his own death.

is the guy with the black hair at the very back of the audience him.

    Timing of appearance: 2:33

  • That sure looks like an aged Andy Kaufman. I would love to get some kind of verification on that.

  • Um, thats Paul Giamatti, the actor who portrayed kaufmans friend in the film. the thing is, his friend was supposedly the one who performed clifton after andy's death, so him in the audience begs the question, "whos playing clifton onstage?"

  • Great! Nothing is as it appears to be! What am I to believe? ......and should I tear up this letter, I've been writing to Andy for the last two months?.......... Maybe I'm Andy and I should send it to myself....... or maybe Andy is in all of us and I have to write 6 billion letters................... I need a drink!

  • Nope. You'll see why in a minute. I know Bob's line, this is THE BOB Zmuda. OR....the real Tony CLifton.

  • No that's his partner Bob Zmulda, Andy's the one performing.

  • That's Paul Giamatti as Bob Zamuda, the point being that since he's not on stage as Clifton, maybe that's really Andy up there.

  • I don't know how anyone can not like this movie, much less this ending. This ending is fucking ART, I LOVE IT, it is perfect in every way possible, Jim Carrey's wonderful acting, the great camera work, a great ironic song, followed by an R.E.M. classic.

  • But the real question is---is Andrew James Kaufman alive or not---some say hes pushing up dasies---and others say hes in Vegas doing his acrch enemy tony clifton!---which is it???

  • As much as I would LOVE to say "Yeah, it's his greatest prank, his best work and he loves living it." But I think he is gone sadly, I wish he wasn't because god knows I would have gone to every event he would have done, but I tihnk he his gone..

  • Beautiful ending to a very good movie! When they pan at the end of the scene to show Bob Zmuda smiling in the audience, they imply that Kaufman performed the show and is not really dead . . . a very nice touch! I don't believe this to be true, but still a very nice touch! Kind of like saying "Andy lives on!".

  • lol i love this scene and if you really know about andys life story is that his brother played clifton after he was dead

  • ahh =) Andy Kaufman<3 hes tha man^^ Bad he's dead:S

  • aahhh dont reckon he'd play on us for that long..he'd be missin out on to much of his show bis fun..but far out if he is...some one will make sure he stays dead i reckon.

  • I don't think he is dead. He is so likely to be alive and laughing at everyone who thinks he's dead.

  • It's true. I really think this is the ONLY time I believe a celebrity actually faked their death. Unlike Jim Morrison and Elvis, Andy Kaufman doing it actually seems like him and would make sense.

  • Kaufman is dead...its just a "what if?" scene

  • Yes I know he's dead in real life. But the movie just makes you feel that way, you know?

  • SPOILERS!!!

Great ending to a great movie. It also implies that Kaufman IS alive and fakes his death. It's also Carrey playing him here. In fact, in that scene with Kaufman and Zmuda only 1/4 of that scene is Paul Giamatti and the rest is Carrey. It's, besides a few lines there, also Carrey's voice.
