This is an amazing card it overclocks and takes it like a man.
Running a max core of 1100 Mhz and Mem Clock of 1575 Mhz and it barely hits 60 degrees under full load.
The XFX Black Edition has a better mem core (I believe 1.25ghz vs 1.375ghz) but it seems to retail for £400, I got my Sapphire from dabs for £360 so it's up to you if you think the £40 is worth the extra performance!
If your more budget conscious you can buy a HD 6950 some can be unlocked to HD6970 if yours can not be unlocked you may still overclock it to get almost the same effect as unlocking. There will be secondhand HD6950s on the market to as we upgrade which should be fine for the most part. Get a 2GB card...
If you have $500 to buy this at the moment do it by all means :)
I wasn't aware of a stuttering issue with crossfire thanks for telling me.
because 120fps (on my 3d screen) of the 5970 alone or with the 5870 in more (tri gpu) was less playable than the only 80fps of the single 5870 card because of ... Micro stuttering
this card is my choice
best overclocking possibilitie without problem of crossfire
with lets say 1 year or 2 with improved drivers how much will the 7950 performance improve? because between this and a 6970 id rather go 6970 its cheaper and some models have a faster core clock
For those of you on a budget just wait a few months, the price for the 7900 series will go down drastically once nvidia unveils its next gen cards. I'm actually waiting on nvidia's next gen cards.
@balancebalance then u should wait untill August at least, & by that time, the prices of the AMD cards would automatically have gone down & not because of NVIDIA's kepler, because they really exaggerated with it saying that it'd be much better, but in fact, it won't, u just gotta google some stuff.
@RE5LEGEND Nvidia already said Kepler's coming out spring so I don't think I have to wait until August. I'm building a new rig pretty soon and my budget is around 400 - 500 dollars for the GPU but that depends on whether I spend a lot money on the CPU.
@balancebalance I guess those are just rumours, i didn't hear anything from nVidia, they're just paying attention to mobile graphics and all that & it felt like they really forgot about PC users, especially at CES 2012, i expected them to talk about Kepler, but they never did, so i immediately swapped to AMD's flagship & it really impressed me. I just hope Maxwell won't be delayed as much as Kepler cause that's probably when i'm gonna buy my next gen GPU.
@crazychainsaw007 there are a lot of psu calculators in any psu manufacturers' website. just enter all your components' details and they'll calculate the total wattage for you....
i want to buy a high performance GPU ... im thinking about Gtx 570-580...6950-6970 or new ati generation 7950 7970... but ive a question... ive one monitor "19" inches... so one guy told me that i just needed 1gb of ram... is this correct? cause i can pick one Gigabyte 6950 for 230$ with 1 gb and one xfx with 2 gb and the same warranty for 290$... can someone help me? plx?
@nerbne But the only flaw is that 6950 only has 1GB of VRAM ..most 2GB models are more expensive to crossfire than buying a single 7950. The avg price of a 10 6950's 2GB model is $287. Let's do the math, $287 + $287 = $574 vs a Sapphire 7950 3GB of VRAM, more future proof, consumes wayyy less power and heat, which is only $95 cheaper. For $95 I could get Mass Effect 3 Limited Edition & enough change to go eat Taco Bell. Trust me, I already thought of your analysis. Remember, it's 28nm vs 40nm.
This is just mind-blowing guys, think about this. The 6990 was getting around 120-150 fps in most games alone. Just think about what the 7990 is going to bring. If there are only two 7950's on it, then it would still perform the same, if not better than the 6990. But, if they put two 7970's on the card, like they said they are, then we are gonna see 200+ FPS in most games, and that is just insane.
@eilam42 yea only a bit, uses less power but its $100 more expensive than 580 here in australia so 580 is actually still a better deal. fucking overpriced shitz
@chris0419 I wouldn't hold my breath for intel's latest chips ivy as there doing extremely well with there current sandy bridge k series, and since amd will probally shift focus and stop making cpu's intel doesn't need to rush to bring them out imho.
@MrPinkpanda69 Indeed, its sad AMD overpriced their products so much... GTX 580 is actually cheaper in my country than 7950, you can find it for 399€, but this card is 469€ and it actually seemed that 580 was slightly better on the tests... Sad to notice nVidia actually has price/performance now. This was AMD's chance to strike, but they decidd to overprice their products. When GTX 600 series come out, the high end models I mean, it's game over...
@Dex1n GTX 600 series won't come out, nvidia said they will pass their turn and sorry but these cards ain't overpriced at all. These cards have the best coolling available and if you're not satisfied with the 7950 go with the 7970 which rapes everything and if not satisfied yet, go for the 7990 when it comes out.
@TheBienpro Nvidia never said they will pass their turn, not the best cooling available, and their is no information on the 7990. Don't spread rumours as if they were the truth.
@Dex1n What the hell? You do realize that the 7000 series is newer and DEFINITELY better than the 500 series, right? Obviously it's more expensive. You think this is over-priced? Do you honestly believe that AMD, a company who's been in the market for years has a worse understanding of how well something is priced compared to your opinion? They priced it damn right and with good reason. You definitely won't win an argument against AMD.
Combine this card with a black PCB and glowing Sapphire letters on the side and it would look so cool that even Batman would want to install it in his system.
@reaper57Just an educated guess. 1.: Different number of shaders 2. AMD won't make the same mistake than with last gen 6970/6970. So far noone has confirmed that they can be unlocked.
@SFseis Just an educated guess. 1.: Different number of shaders 2. AMD won't make the same mistake than with last gen 6970/6970. So far noone has confirmed that they can be unlocked.
