@ryan25051 I think the combination of its handling, speed, practicality, and fuel economy make it a good choice for just about anyone. There aren't many cars out there you can drive and have fun in and yet still get 36 MPG in stop and go traffic.
@huyryo Eh.. I prefer the MINI :-) It's easier to drive, more efficient, and believe it or not can beat a 911 in a slalom simply because of the amazing handling.
How did you ever decide on what mini to get?? I want to trade my 2005 mini cooper s covertible in for a hardtop s and there are so many choices.......how long did it take you to decide you wanted? I want to make mine on the internet too.....have any advice? :) Thanks, Caleb
@CooperSCaleb05 I was looking at MINIs online for years before I got one, and I spent many hours trying out different configurations, and test drove many cars before buying. When ordering through e-mail or over the phone, be sure they have exactly the specs you ordered, my dealership screwed it up about 4 times. Tell each dealership that you are shopping around for the best price, they will give you more money off that way. Oh, and get the xenon auto turning headlights, they're awesome.
This was an awesome video. I'm currently in the market for a car and this video made the choice much easier. You literally showed everything to know about the interior, thanks and hope you're enjoying the ride!
Can you show a video of how much room there is in the back, say if the front seats are all the way forward and back, and if the back seats slide forward and back or just fold? Thanks man. Great job on this.
@blasko229 Thanks. The rear seats in the Cooper S do not slide forward or back, however they do in the Countryman. They only fold down. I could make a video if you're really interested. The rear leg room is sufficient for most people, depending on who is sitting in the front seats and how they sit. With the front seats all the way back, there is literally no rear leg room. With them in an average position there is plenty. With them all the way forward, there's quite a bit of rear leg room.
@nickunicorn The 2011 and newer models have 9 more horsepower, better gas mileage, front brake cooling ducts, redesigned front and rear fascia, slightly redone interior with better materials, optional MINI Connected system and new, flash based navigation system, a louder and more pronounced "pop and burble", and several other changes they have made over the years. The 2007 model is still a great car, but the extra power and nicer interior of the newer Cooper S greatly improves the look and feel
@huskysglare1 The cabin noise is a little louder than most cars, because of the vertical windshield and run-flat tires, but it's still quieter than previous MINIs, my old BMW Z4, and most sports cars. If you're worried about cabin noise, test drive one.
I customized this MINI on MINI's website and ordered it all online, so it's fairly easy to do, you just customize it then send the options list to a dealer. They make you pay a $1,000 deposit, then you pay for the car when it arrives.
@huskysglare1 It's just like ordering in person, except your communication is over the phone or e-mail. You can still negotiate of course. I got several thousand off this MINI Cooper S. Contact a few dealers in your area and see which one gets you the best deal, and make sure to mention to them that you are doing this, you will get a much better deal.
When I talked to them at first they said they couldn't give me anything off, but after mentioning I was shopping around, they negotiated.
@huskysglare1 Also be sure to test drive the car to be certain it's what you want. I'm sure you will fall in love with it as I did, but some people don't like them for whatever reason.
1. does the led brake light fade in and out if you lock and unlock the doors just like newer bmws with led tails?
2. if you stop the car, take the keys out from ignition. Then press the turn signal stock left or right, exit the car, does the parking light stayed on for one side? is this feature enable?
@waijai268 I don't believe the brake lights fade in and out, but you can make the parking lights flash when you lock and unlock the car, it's an option you can change at any time. You can also make it beep if you wish.
The car doesn't turn the parking lights on for one side as you mention, but you can easily turn the parking lights on, and even adjust how long they stay on after you shut off the car.
@geo504 Haha! Well that's tough. The 911 4S is a blast to drive, but it wouldn't make a great daily driver. Everything is just a little too stiff to drive it every day, but when it is driven it rewards you with amazing acceleration and some great sounds from the boxer 6. You can't fit real people in the back of it though, and probably not even small children, and it has almost no storage space. The MINI is far more economical, and can fit 4 people while being easy & fun to drive every day.
@hezznaval1 That's more of an opinion thing. I came from a 2005 BMW Z4 3.0 (convertible) to the MINI and at times I've missed the convertible but at other times I've been glad I got a hardtop. The convertible MINI weighs more than the hard top, so it's just a tiny bit slower, has worse rear visibility, is louder, and not as stiff, but it's amazing in the right weather. I've always thought convertible MINIs look more feminine than the hardtop, but thats just my opinion. Test drive each.
@hezznaval1 no, it's an option. If you are going for the lightest car, it's nice to have the option to not get a moon roof but it does make the interior a lot brighter during the day, and lifting the back of it up helps keep the car cool in the summer.
@ButRachaelsays21 I've always owned black cars, and I love them. A white roof is a free option if you want some contrast, but I really like the black. It's hard to keep clean, but when it is it looks stunning.
@ButRachaelsays21 I got the Leather\Cloth in rooster red. The red roof looks great, but if you leave it outside red is the fastest color to oxidize. If this is your first car, you may want to consider getting an S and modifying it later. The JCW's price is hard to justify for the improvements it brings, but it does look great and it is a tiny bit quicker off the line.
Kev terrific thorough review, I'm going to order the 2012 and I can't wait. The 17" wheels you have are the best. One thing I wanted to ask you About is the leatherette seats. I much. Prefer cloth for comfort. Any feedback on material? Thanks again. Cooper from Chicago
@Cooper1970 Thanks! I've always been a leather person myself, but for keeping you in your seat, cloth can't be beat. In the leather/cloth seats you get the best of both worlds. I like the color of the leather so that the interior is more than just black and silver, and the cloth keeps you glued to your seat in the corners. I haven't tried the leatherette seats. The leather and cloth seats are very comfortable and supportive, and they add to the uniqueness of the car.
@cocacola711 The colored interior lights are standard. The USB port is included in the Convenience package, which I would recommend getting since it comes with a lot of other great features like comfort access, auto dimming rear view mirror, auto headlamps and wipers, and a built in garage door opener. I believe the aux jack is standard, however I'm not certain.
@Kev50027 Thanks for the reply. It was a difficult choice between the premium or the convenience package, but in the end, the sunroof and the sound system was too hard to pass up. Wish mini made the USB standard, that way owners can really take advantage of the sound system.
@johntesoriero Well I've only had mine for 6 months now, but if it tells you anything, I'm excited to drive it every chance I get. The handling is unlike anything else out there, and it's pretty quick off the line too. My favorite part of the car is probably the "pop and burble".. I made a video about it, but when you let off the throttle in sport mode it pops at you and is so satisfying. It's truly a drivers car. In conclusion, no, the novelty doesn't wear off.
I HAVE JUST BOUGHT THE 2011 MINI COOPER S WITH SAT NAV IN BLACK WITH CREAM LEATHER, AWESOME CAR THIS WILL BE MY 4TH M.C.S. HAD ONE OF THE FIRST 2002 SILVER THEN BLACK THEN WHITE NOW BACK TO BLACK
THIS IS THE BEST SO FAR IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT BYEING ONE DONT HESITATE YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED
That was a pretty comprehensive review. Thanks for the effort into it! The audio could have been better at times. I pick up my little baby tomorrow. This video puts me a little ahead of the game when I start figuring out all the features. The more I see about this car the happier I am that I mad this decision to buy this car. Thanks!
@skydiverbob1 Yeah, the audio was a pain to sort out, and it still came out muddy and picked up too much wind. Sorry about that, I adjusted the volume to try to make it better, but that didn't help much. Hope you're enjoying your MINI!
@delunamendivil Yes, it comes with the cold weather package I believe, and pops out to clean the headlights every couple times you press the stalk to wash the windshield.
@Techdude9856 Just the other day, I saw an extremely tall man get out of a Clubman, and I've read of basketball players buying a MINI and fitting just fine. They may sacrifice rear legroom for their own, but yes, there is plenty of headroom, and the seat is very adjustable for people of all shapes and sizes.
one question too, I am going to order one in about a month or two, and I am wondering, is there a way to drive around with the front fogs and parking lights on at the same time? if not, I am buying the driving lights anyway with mine :-) glad to see you like your Mini, and I am so anxious to get mine! British Racing Green!
@Clin10 Not sure about that, I'll have to see if I can the next time I take my car out. Just washed it today, still love it to death. Great color choice!! I was torn between black, dark blue, and british racing green. The parking lights are nice, they come on when you unlock the car or put the key in, so it helps you find the car in a dark parking lot. The Xenon headlights are the best I've ever used, even after driving many BMWs, and the autoturning headlights are really cool as well.
@Geekeros The new hatchbacks won't be released until late 2012, and will be 2013 model year. The coupe and convertible coupe should be out late 2011 and into 2012. It's tough to tell if it will be worth it to wait, some major changes are in order for MINI, they are putting 3 cylinder engines in most models which should increase efficiency, but I wonder how they will sound and feel to drive. If you can, test drive one and see what you think. Make sure to take it around some corners ;-)
@Kev50027 Thanks, i guess i'll have to wait till it the 2013 model, is like year and a half of waiting and i hope to be worth it, i heard something about the 3 cylinders, and yet i think it is hard to deliver the 180 bhp from a 3 cylnder turbocharged so they might stick with the 4 cylinder for the Cooper S, guess i'll just have to wait and see for myself, congratulations on your mini, enjoy it.
@Geekeros Thanks, I definitely will! For the latest news on MINI, check out the blog MotoringFile. YouTube won't let me post a link, but Google will find it for you.
@ReaninLove Only the front seats, the rear windows are fixed in place. This makes it quieter with the windows closed, and the sunroof can be popped up for extra ventilation.
@YOURMOMSMOMSDADSMOM The signal for the radio? The left knob controls power, the right knob controls the menu and signal. When you turn the radio on, you can cycle through preset stations using the buttons with the numbers above them. You can also manually search for stations by pressing and holding the left or right buttons either on the radio (they surround the button labeled "m") or on the steering wheel. You won't use that much though, once you store your favorite stations, or autostore.
@YOURMOMSMOMSDADSMOM Oh! Right, sorry about that. It's in the menu of settings you get to on the screen that shows the speed by pressing the "BC" button on the tip of the left stalk in. Press it in until you see the settings icon, then press and hold, and it will list different icons with settings for each. It's kind of confusing, and usually you will need the manual to know what each icon refers to, but they're the kind of settings you set once and leave. Hope that helps!
i'm getting one too and would like if u did the exhaust video with the sport turned on and then off to hear the pop/burble sound.... what do u think about the exhaust note??
@ricardomexico1 The exhaust sound is satisfying, but not overbearing. I made that video by the way.. just check my channel, it's the most recent one. Overall I would say the MINI Cooper S has a good exhaust system. If it were much quieter it would not sound sporty, but if it were much louder it would sound like a souped up Honda.
Getting great sounds out of a 4 cylinder is tough, but they did a good job.
@Torri91 I love it too! MINI added some little features that are fun to play with like the mood lighting and the turning headlights. Things like that make MINIs very fun to just sit in and mess around with, the whole car comes across as a reliable, grown up toy that is so much fun to drive yet gets great gas mileage and doesn't cost a fortune. I came from a BMW Z4 3.0, and the MINI handles better, although it's not as fast in a straight line, it's a much more interesting car to drive.
@perfecthips Unfortunately, there is no flap that you can close to keep light out of the sunroof, however it is highly tinted, and there is a shade that can be pulled that keeps sunlight out. The interior has never gotten too bright for me, although it would be nice to have a solid sunshield to keep it cooler in the summer. You can pop the first sunroof open to vent air though, and that helps a lot.
You are only able to get the double sunroof or no sunroof, but the double sunroof is a great.
@perfecthips Oddly enough, the mood lighting is always on when the car is on, even in the daytime or when the lights are off. I thought this was peculiar, but since you can adjust the brightness, you can turn them down so far that they are barely noticeable, even in pitch dark, and they get very bright too.
So y is this car so awesome

@YOURMOMSMOMSDADSMOM Oh! Right, sorry about that. It's in the menu of settings you get to on the screen that shows the speed by pressing the "BC" button on the tip of the left stalk in. Press it in until you see the settings icon, then press and hold, and it will list different icons with settings for each. It's kind of confusing, and usually you will need the manual to know what each icon refers to, but they're the kind of settings you set once and leave. Hope that helps!

@Kev50027
Thank You! It's been bugging me ever since. I don't like not knowing how something works, especially in a car XD

i'm getting one too and would like if u did the exhaust video with the sport turned on and then off to hear the pop/burble sound.... what do u think about the exhaust note??
ricardomexico1 1 year ago
@ricardomexico1 The exhaust sound is satisfying, but not overbearing. I made that video by the way.. just check my channel, it's the most recent one. Overall I would say the MINI Cooper S has a good exhaust system. If it were much quieter it would not sound sporty, but if it were much louder it would sound like a souped up Honda.
Getting great sounds out of a 4 cylinder is tough, but they did a good job.

I'm glad you showed the mood lighting on this vid, it is such a cool feature!

I came from a BMW Z4 3.0, and the MINI handles better, although it's not as fast in a straight line, it's a much more interesting car to drive.

and can you close the sunroof so your not able to see through it? i was at the auto show today and i forgot to check that.
and does mini only offer that dual sunroof or can you only get 1?
sorry for all the questions

@perfecthips Unfortunately, there is no flap that you can close to keep light out of the sunroof, however it is highly tinted, and there is a shade that can be pulled that keeps sunlight out. The interior has never gotten too bright for me, although it would be nice to have a solid sunshield to keep it cooler in the summer. You can pop the first sunroof open to vent air though, and that helps a lot.
You are only able to get the double sunroof or no sunroof, but the double sunroof is a great.

Can you turn off the interior lighting or it always on?
thanks for part 2 :D
perfecthips 1 year ago
@perfecthips Oddly enough, the mood lighting is always on when the car is on, even in the daytime or when the lights are off. I thought this was peculiar, but since you can adjust the brightness, you can turn them down so far that they are barely noticeable, even in pitch dark, and they get very bright too.
