I do both. I trace my original drawing with the pen. It's hard for me to draw freehand on the computer even with a tablet.

Do you have any tips for outlining? I don't have photoshop, but I do have a similar program. My lines tend to turn out all squiggly and bad unless I do them all with vector paths, which takes FOREVER...

Hmm... Well, I do use a pretty good tablet. The pad is about as big as my screen so its easier to get the better quality of lines. I guess a good tip is to move in pretty close to where you Are trying to outline so thatvyou can get clearer lines and don't use too big of a brush

I think it's really the eye that makes the character. It is sometimes hard to give the character than mean-ish expression. If I had given her a happy expression it would have given her a totally different look, so once you get the expression down you should me good :D
