That was a great video of a beautiful insect, you are so lucky to have something that unique around your home. Well done for letting it go like that, unlike some frightened individuals who forget that they are actually at the top of the food chain.
I like how he appriciates the rescue. When he buzzes off he reminds me of the ending of Anton Chigur from No Country For Old Men. " Take this but you never saw me " LOL!!
@Stillwater900 The rating is 1 man's opinion only. Pain varies according to is venom sac full & fully discharged into sting; sting site; tolerance of victim (stings by previous species do add some immunity). The Japanese hornet was NOT on his "list" also caterpillars are insects too! Puss caterpillar is highly rated for severity; lonomia; and wattle cup caterpillar they sting by spines not stingers, but are still stings; assassin bug has severe bite (toxins) he does NOT "know!"
thats why we kill first ask questions later, then search its body for meat... just like the bloatfly, that bitch has some tasty meat! yer so what if its got +5 rads. bloatfly is a tasty bitch!
These rascals have one of the most painful stings known -- I think they're in the top three or four, the bullet ant being #1. However, I've been around them for decades and never had a problem with them. Unlike many hornets and wasps these things are pretty even tempered and don't go out of their way to bother people. But probably not a good idea to catch them in one's hand....
As mean as they look they are almost never harmful to people - unless you look like a tarantula. They love apples and peaches on the trees and of course tarantulas. I've had them crawl on me and they have never bitten me. (Not recommended for average folks.)
@mangomariel to spiders not humans. I'm not a fan of wasps they scare me but this wasp unlike hornets and other wasps has nothing to prove it knows its a boss and doesn't trouble humans unless really pissed. I watch a TV program called Deadly 60 and the presenter caught one it a net and held it by its wings while talking about it it was upside down trying to sting him but once he let it go instead of turning on him like a wasp or hornet it just flew off back to its buisness.
These can be found in the foothills of Central California, too. I used to live there, and saw one in my yard once. I had no idea what it was at the time, so I described it to a co-worker, and he told me it was a Tarantula Hawk, which I'd never even heard of.
Guys it's not got 4 wings it's not a freaking Cazador (although it looks like one just in case I see one I'm getting Knock Knock (Fire axe) ready) (Oh and a couple dozen stimpaks)
First time I encountered one of these I was in a cave and a swarm of about 5 or 6 of them came upon me... I thought, "Fuck it, they're just bugs," right? WRONG! They killed me and my follower within SECONDS.
I saw this video yesterday, then last night I had a dream(nightmare) that it stung my thumb and something started growing and wiggiling inside it furiously and painfully.

i would be scared shitless i was actually stung by something that was a 3 on the most painful insect bites trust me a three felt like getting shot by a incinderay pellet gun POINT BLANK
@greenacidfusion That's if you ask one person. His dogmatic view has poisoned the well of thought and few question his allegations. No, the BA is NEVER the most painful; natives & outsiders both do the glove ritual taking over 100 BA stings, recover 2 to 3 days. A dozen T hawk stings would overwhelm the nervous system, cause shock & fatality, same with the Japanese hornet. 30 Australian bulldog ant stings kill, same as 30 common red wasp stings that many BA stings don't! Puss caterpillar??
@greenacidfusion It's a subjective index. Pain can't be precisely quantified as in, 6 ounces of gold vs 2 ounces. Sting chemicals vary but have overlapping compounds. As different stings are sampled, body builds up antibodies, causing successive stings to be less severe due to immune response. Maybe he tried the BA 1st. Sting site also matters--cheek hurts more than forearm. Was venom sac full or depleted when stung? Was insect brushed off fast or was full dose taken? COW KILLER--BEWARE!
@TouchMeTherePlease Schmidt is not the only voice on the subject of stings, but seems to be the only voice you want to listen to! Pain not correlated with lethality? Emergency room anti-venom specialists would not concur with that opinion, and they deal with wasp stings, not only snake bites. I don't think you've taken the stings either, so your view is as subjective as anyone else's! There's a large body of physiological study on stings and to say Schmidt is by himself is shortsighted!
@skirts365 No i have not been stung so i have to go on other peoples authority, which pretty much all say the bullet ant is the most painful. What and who exactly are you going on? Emergency room anti-venom specialists would not say lethality and pain are related as your nervous system or respetory system being shut down is not direcly related to pain. Subjective view? So are you saying that anything can be more painful than anything, a misquito bite more than a bullet ant?
@skirts365 and if so its pretty self defeating argument. When its said it is the most painful sting it means stings that happen in similar circumstances, ie a sting by each in the arm, and how it would be felt for the majority of people. Some person may find one sting more painful contrary to how everyone else experiences it, but that does not matter since we are speaking in generalities when it is said its the most painful. None of your argumets make any case for the TW sting,
@TouchMeTherePlease The fact that you can't even spell correctly ("misquito" and "argumets") are proof you're a babbling moron; if you can't grasp simple English, you sure can't comprehend complex science! Therefore, I'm blocking you, and you can blow kisses to your heart's content to Schmidt and his flawed, faulty "research."
Ooo, I love these things. I used to catch them up in the Heber Overgaard area of Arizona when I spent time up at my uncle's cabin. And when I mean catch, I mean with my hands. They are actually very timid things. I've seen em get up to around 1.5 inches. Maybe they can get bigger.
have saved thousands of small animals like this from drowning in the bird baths. they always seem to appreciate it. i just use a twig and they crawl on it then i put it in a place where they can dry off and regain their senses. we have these t hawks here in the sierras. they like to feast upon the yarrow flowers
@guyglowmore1 GOOD FOR SAVEVING THEM;-] but have you ever got stung by one i read that they have the 2nd most painful sting only the BULLET ANT is stronger the tarantulas hawk's sting is described as blinding, fierce and shockingly electric!_!
for some reason wasps , especially hornets, scare the crap out of me (opposed the spiders we have here in europe) so i would go near a tarantula hawl, ever ever ever, but they're pretty interesting to watch... its like a horror movie.
I see a lot of these where I live probably because there are a lot of tarantulas. The ones I see are metalic blue with red wings this on seems to be black.
Only if it's messed with and if it's a female. This one is a male. I just had the same experience with a female. Will be posting the vid soon so stay tuned!
they are the ones that paralyze the spider, bury it, lay eggs on it, etc. Watch my other videos and I'll have a new one on a female up real soon. thanks for your comment!
@jessej432 they werent playing with it...they saved it from drowning ....just because its a big scary bug doesnt mean it should die....most animals AND insects will actually leave you alone if they know you just saved them from death, just look up the vid of the guy who saved a polar bear's baby in front of the mom bear(usually itd have ripped his head off)then just walked off after her cub was saved...animals arent stupid dude..if you save one..they know it
@BlakeTahoe Heheh, actually, when I was 4 I saved a bee drowning in the gutter...bastard stung me on the thumb for it. Saving them or not, you have to be careful. An animal in distress can turn on you in an instant, you don't mess around with instinct.
fuck the sticks and stomping on the bitch its time to break out the C-4 and RPGs on them bitches. if one of thoes things landed on my i would shit a cow and that cow would shit a goat which would shit a goose which would shit a 500 karrot gold egg. god if only if only
@iflydelta1101 It's said that the intensity and pain of the Tarantula Hawk sting is only second to the Bullet Ant. I've been stung by just regular bees and wasps and that's enough for me. To think that those are just childs play in comparison to the sting of one of these guys, blows my mind. The female is the scary one as well, she's got a 7mm (1/3 of an inch) stinger on her!
love the video really good

If that thing stings me, it doesn't paralyse me.

Worlds most painful sting? and your playing with it? One word. Retards.
jessej432 1 year ago
@jessej432 they werent playing with it...they saved it from drowning ....just because its a big scary bug doesnt mean it should die....most animals AND insects will actually leave you alone if they know you just saved them from death, just look up the vid of the guy who saved a polar bear's baby in front of the mom bear(usually itd have ripped his head off)then just walked off after her cub was saved...animals arent stupid dude..if you save one..they know it
BlakeTahoe 1 year ago
@BlakeTahoe Heheh, actually, when I was 4 I saved a bee drowning in the gutter...bastard stung me on the thumb for it. Saving them or not, you have to be careful. An animal in distress can turn on you in an instant, you don't mess around with instinct.

Wow i bet that feels good when you get stung :o
iflydelta1101 1 year ago
@iflydelta1101 It's said that the intensity and pain of the Tarantula Hawk sting is only second to the Bullet Ant. I've been stung by just regular bees and wasps and that's enough for me. To think that those are just childs play in comparison to the sting of one of these guys, blows my mind. The female is the scary one as well, she's got a 7mm (1/3 of an inch) stinger on her!
