  • they sound good just going to fast for me i prefer this song at a slowere tempo

  • We play this, but sing the "Just a small town girl/boy" parts.

  • @BrittleThorn Me to I am the only melophone and i sound like alot of them together haha. But we havent played this song yet...it would be fun though. Our band is small and only has like 65 people and thats it...but we are just as loud as a band of 100 people.

  • Hay im a french horn too im learning to play 7 nation army the funniest son iv played was the angry bird theme and im in middle school

  • I realize most of the comments about it are pretty old at this point, but it only got faster because the director (same person who arranged the music) decided it should get faster. He was consistent in his direction, so it must have been that there wasn't enough time to fit it in otherwise. There was indecision that week* as to whether we should do Styx or Journey, and we ended up doing both, so he was likely strapped for time. (*Yes, a new show for every home game)

  • @17143972290 hey! don't hate! appreciate! this band is going out there and doing and what they love. they don't need haters like you bashing on them!

  • Can we agree on our marktime heights??

  • phantom reg is way much better than this shit

  • o.o Why does Michigan do all the awesome songs..

  • @therandomexample i know right

  • We are going to play this in my marching band this year I am so excited but we only play part of it then it goes to you give love a bad name. Band camp is soon so i hope I do good for this song

  • i didn't know a band could do that...that well

  • 7 people stopped believing.

  • ahh, this past year for marching band (I'm a French Horn...and our only one) and I had to play the first solo :) "Just a small town girl" part :D

  • @BrittleThorn Way to go! You have a real advantage there in becoming a better and better musician: no choice but to really focus on your part :)

  • @heathrown lol Thanks! ^-^ I kinda disliked it though lol Just because I was a Freshman and I couldn't get it loud enough half the time ^^;

  • @BrittleThorn Sounds like a challenge for sure!

  • @BrittleThorn Whoo! Go horns!

  • I love the sousaphone part <3

  • I play this for my 7th grade band, and let's just say, we almost outshined the high school. I think ours is better, sorry... Only because in ours, Low Brass kicks butt and sooooo beats out those high wind people. =)

  • most of ur videos have great sound quality wat kind of camera do u have

  • @JROD30ROCKETS The better ones were likely taken by my Panasonic Lumix, which I like very much. I'm not sure when I switched from my Kodak EasyShare exactly (but I wouldn't recommend that one anyway

  • You need xylophones for the little tunes in the background. Just saying, otherwise, it sounds good(:

  • We're playing this as a Middle School bandd.... and ima tell you one thing...

    WE SUCK BUTT!

  • Wow, this sounds great! :D

  • my middle school is doing this song

  • in middle school marching band, we played the Glee version of this and it sounded much nicer (no offence). we (the trumpets) played the beginning and the rest of the song an octave higher.

  • @pattm12 Those in middle school do not understand the added difficulty when you march and play... This is a quality marching band, and an amazing song! Second of all, Glee sucks, so your version sucks...

  • @pattm12 stfu have you ever tried to march and play?? makes it 8x harder.... think before you say something about 'being better' they could out blow you any day (twss)

  • @pattm12 The sound quality ruins it. How could you think this sucks. This is a renowned college marching band.

  • cool

  • fu

  • My schools jazz band played this it was fun

  • pretty amazing michigan i loved the music

  • we practice in the parking lot too :D

  • im still in middle school but im in a high school marching band and we are doing this song so excited

  • idk if it is just the video but it dosent sound like its projecting very well its probably just the vid :P

  • @SamaruiXTyler Yes, sadly my camera is for stills, the video quality is not so good!

  • What does the band say at the end?

  • @wafflejacks That is just one of our standard commands...."and drop" when we put our instruments down

  • @heathrown and drop? most bands say and down. but ive never heard of and drop

  • @TheDragonmaster18 That's right. I have no idea why that word!

  • I wonder if I should join the marching band.

  • @df3guy13 You should try it. It was a lot of fun for me.

  • @heathrown I meant MMB. I'm already in my high school Marching Band.

  • @heathrown Ah, I see. The way I look at it, there are certain opportunities that only come along once. Will you regret not doing it later? Or would you prefer to have that time to try other activities?

  • @df3guy13

It's pretty cool. Cause you get to go different places, and watching other bands are pretty awesome. Plus, you get you to to amusement parks (:

  • Yeah go J. Nixx!

  • You speed up a bit, but overall very good. Why do you practice with shako/hats and gloves but no uniforms.

  • @Flakbait888 This is our Saturday morning practice. We wear the gloves always to protect our instruments. We practice with the shoes and hats, so the director can see better how our formations look.

  • XD I love that song

  • been doin march for 2 months and love it!! i really didnt wanna do it going into high school but i gavce it one year. i wanna be a drum major now

  • A great version to one of my favorite songs. Well done.

  • i play bass drum in high school marching band and we are doing a journey show. We did a differrent arrangement of this song

  • my marching band is playing this and i play clarinet(first year of marching band) and the part where the clarinets play the 16th notes back and forth is really hard when you're juststarted to play high notes!

  • @takakuroichi New notes can be very difficult to master. Keep at it though, in no time you'll wonder how you ever struggled with them :)

  • It sounds like they sped up

  • it's official. the michigan marching band is the best!

  • @vallietube9747 hahahahaha,,,,

    OH..IO

  • just the foot timing was off a bit but purty good arrangement

  • The musical effect created by the half turn around 1:23 would have been AMAZING if the phrase wasn't dropped. I started getting goosebumps when I realized that was going to happen. Amazing job, though guys!!! Definitely a thumbs up!

  • we got this to practice for marching season next year and its AWSOME, yall do a really good job, i like the routine too

  • im in middle school, but im in the high school marching band, and we are doing this song next year

  • we are doing that nest year!!!! it sounds so cool

  • why are they rushing the tempo so much?!?

  • @xxh3llfir3xx It is marching band and all....They also have only so much time to play. lol

  • @xxh3llfir3xx Have you ever marched to a popular song at a slow tempo? It isn't fun or exciting for the fans. I'd say the tempo is right on track!

  • @Smytherrs Playing it at a fast and upbeat tempo is one thing. But starting the song at a slower tempo and rushing throughout the entire piece is another. that's what im getting at. Count the beats at the beginning and you'll see that they're rushin' like Soviets throughout the entire song.

  • @xxh3llfir3xx You're right! They are playing at about 120 bpm at the beginning and start rushing the second the bass drums come in around 0:20. I didn't really notice at first! They still did a good job, imo :)

  • @xxh3llfir3xx theres an accelerando written in the music...

  • thats going to be me some day im in middle school band i play the clairinet im really good practice my clairinet everyday i love band.

  • @xAbXb That's great! Keep practicing everyday and you will be amazing!

  • @xAbXb good luck with that! im gonna be a freshman, doing marching band, and this is the first drill ive learned :) im a flute player, but im aiming for drumline, so good luck to us both!

    i luv band too!

  • I am a trombone player but.....The trumpets rocked =D

  • DONT STOP BELIEVING :D

  • OHhhhhhh soooo GOOD!!! i play Trombone!! GO TROMBONES!!!! i hope to be this good some day!!! :)

  • i want sheet music 4 dis please

  • did u ever think their band directors need them to go faster marching bands are always faster they have to have a speed you know. dont be so hard on em when you dont know.

  • Usually band directors shouldn't be doing much for the marching band besides providing music and arranging the marching sequences. The drum major (and section leaders) should be in charge of the band.

  • can we run that one more time.

  • And their tempo keeps changing..... especially between the intro and the first verse... and not too smoothly (as if they were getting jazzed into it and not paying attention to the DM's)... Been there, done that... had my section leader smack me for it.

  • Anybody know who did this arrangement?

  • your trumpets are out of tune

  • what are they

  • The tenor saxophone/ Trombone part is BORRRING. I have to play this in Marching band. Over half the song is quarter notes.... almost always the same note haha. This sounds great!

  • awesome!

  • My schools band is awesome santa margarita 1st place in our first tourney today in rbv our ge score was better than bands in 1a to 3a and we r the smallest 1a band there

  • agreed fail at 1:38. one of the basic rules of marching band=never move during a halt. other then that, enjoyable:)

  • If this was longer i would of been really happy

  • Ew...I'm sorry, but right away, it sounded pretty out of tune. The trumpets did good, but it seems a bit fast...

  • It's the quality of the video that makes it sound out of tune.

  • 1:38 FAIL

  • man u guys sound really good my school can play it too but not as good

  • Just a city boy

Born and raised in SOUTH DETROIT

  • i <3 marching band :D it's the best our next game is earth, wind, and fire themed :D

  • almost ironic, ours is fire themed :D...

  • wish my high school band could sound like this but not alot of them care

  • i know, not many people really care

  • haha. that's the same with my old high school band expect our high school is brand new.

  • i have the same problem =/

  • dude you rock i wonder since im in band and first chair trumpet i f i could get in

  • I'm sure you could, just make sure to practice (on your own) every day!

  • what do i have to do to get in??? these guys rock!!

  • How close are you to being in college?

  • im a freshman in high school lol

  • Get in the habit of practicing now. They'll teach you the steps, but you need to be the best musician you can be.

  • @heathrown

gonna be a freashman this year, just got done with marching band on august 13th.

have practice every monday tuesday and thursday during football season. will be doing the avatar [blue people] complete show.

  • @fbalien99 FRESHMAN POWER!

  • @heathrown Most colleges will have information about their band programs available. Ask a representative, or search their website. Depending on the program, and what instrument you play, you may have to audition. This will be indicated on the information you find/ are provided. Typically, the more renown programs will require auditions, but it really varies from university to university.

  • GO BULE

  • um im assuming u meant blue?

  • NICE JOB!

  • O.M.G. You guys rocked! To bad you probably don't play outside state, huh?

  • Only at away games and bowl trips, unfortunately.

  • wow, yall are pretty good! for our show this year, we want to play this song but we cant find any music for it...where did yall buy your music from?

  • The vast majority of our music (including this one) was arranged by the director and the copyright is owned by the University of Michigan.

  • ohh ok. lol, well thank you anyways (:

  • you guys are good, but it speeds up

  • Yeah, I think it should speed up some, but they did it too much.

  • it goes from 124 to 128 bpm in my sheet music

  • That person in the center around 0:34 has interesting....socks? Shoes? idk XD

  • umm.. most marching bands practice in their parking lot because it resembles a football field and there is really no where else you could go XD

  • i love how you are practicing in a parking lot

  • yea we do it to cuz it resembles a football field and a road for parades its actually quit fun

  • ahh i have to ask my director if we can play this :O hehe

  • woa, now we need to do this at my school!

  • OMG U GUYS ARE SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

  • HOLD TO THAT FEEEELIN!!

  • it goes on, and on, and on, and on!!!!

  • i love the songs you get to do!

  • yeah we are so totally playing this next year in marching band..

    =D

  • absolutely awesome!! Good job everyone in this and those who arranged. beautiful

  • no matter who's playing this song it always makes me as a white sox fan think of the 2005 World Series parade where Steve Perry, AJ Pierzynski, Geoff Blum and Aaron Rowand sing this song in the most awful key known to man lol...and Mark Buehrle clearly messes up the words in the back...Go Sox! Also good job on playing it here

  • my school just played this for ABC 12 this morning

  • i mean this in no disrespect of the proud michigan tradition, but this should be on the top list of songs about Michigan Football...hail to the victors...

  • very nicee

  • what impresses me about this band is that how musical they are even though a good portion of them are non music majors. that being said...they could be more musical =]

  • Musicality has actually been a major point of emphasis the last two seasons. Mostly due to the fact that we have a new director with a different philosophy about how a band should sound.

  • Yeah, I can definitely tell. Scottie B is an amazing person.

  • whoaa this is really kool!

  • ahah datz looks cool=) :P

  • Hey, if you were in this band what instrument did you play? just curious

  • I spent the last 4 years (not counting this season) in the piccolo section.

  • wow...datz some cool stuff right der

  • Why are you all wearing your hats and you aren't even in uniform?

  • That's because it's the last rehearsal before our performance, so the directors can make final adjustments to the forms.

  • Wow. Rush more.

  • Great arrangement! Anybody know who did this arrangement by chance??

  • This one was done by Jamie Nix, the director of the MMB at the time, for the Michigan band.

  • you still go to this school dont you????

  • I actually graduated earlier this year, but I still stay in touch with the band.

  • wooooohhh goooo baritones... i live in texas and i march in the deer park high school band im just a freshman and just to let yu guys no girls can play baritone bcuz im a girl and i play baritone and when i graduate im going to go to this school bcuz their band is awsome

  • Sweeeet! Go T-bones

  • gahhh :]

  • just listen to those baritones/euphoniums/tubas BEAUTIFUL!

  • Go Low Brass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • and Trumpets/Trombones :P

  • that sounds so cool

  • Even though I'm an MSU fan, I got to say great job!

  • yay mellos!! I love the MMB... though I would've liked to hear more of the trumpets at 0:40...

  • I love song and the band sounds really GOOD!!

  • no screaming high trumpet at 1:10.....or 1:38...?

at least i can't hear it...

  • i cant watch university marhcing bands just because i do drum corps..... It sucks

  • what corps are you in?

  • Oregon Crusaders. Its not world class or anything but at least im there

  • is that a colonial corps?

  • nice!

  • I love this song! Just a small-town girl, living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train goin anywhere. Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit. He took the midnight train goin anywhere.

  • i see her in a smokey room, smell of wine and cheap perfume. for a smile they can share the night, it goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and...
