  • Incredible music. The horns! The horns!

  • Poppa James gave the pilgrim rappers of the 70's a great portion of the beats they crafted for groove. Poppa J calls out in rythmic chant to his band, 'Watch me!" Which meant pay attention to his que for shifts or breaks. "Bridge!" Part of his appeal was how he'd turn a large band on a dime in mid groove. At least once I've heard him mention his Rap! Perhaps the youngens of that day picked up on that; when they grabbed the mic they naturally realized they were, "Rappin!"

  • @astonehunter Real talk yo....

  • 3:28 EPIC!!!

  • C L A S S I C FUNK!!!

  • From 3:00 to 3:52, looped until the DJ mixed it with another beat (usually the first 12 seconds of Rufus Thomas' "Funky Penguin"), set many a dance floor on FIRE back when hip hop was just a NY-NJ-CT kinda thing. We LIVED for this beat!

  • @s70baby2 or it would get mixed with The Mohawks "The Champ"

  • @blackrogue162 Exactly!

  • james brown gives me a reason to get up in the morning whenever your down get down with james brown!

  • Yes. That is correct. This is the original the 45 speed I had. I remember mine had the black king label on it. Man those were the days.

  • I never noticed that the 45 was a different speed. Which speed is the actual way it was recorded, the 45 or subsequent releases?

  • @twilighter112108

I believe the subsequent cd releases contain the songs at the correct recorded speed. "Funky Drummer" is the most obvious one. I can't fathom how Polydor could be putting out the same songs at different speeds`. I also speeded up my upload of "Funky Drummer" to the speed of the 45 release.. And what is your daughter gonna say when she finds out you have been using her ID? LOL.

  • Hard hitting super funk, almost too much to bear, HA! I love the bridge part he added to the live version from 1971 (it's on 'Revolution of the mind and on that live version on Youtube).

  • @PaulDA2000

I did the pic here to remind of the old vinyl LP "Soul Classics - Vol 2". Funny thing is, I later came aross a USA pressing of that album, and I discovered that Polydor had been short-changing you guys. In Britain, the "Soul Classics" LPs had more tracks than the US versions. Why the hell would Polydor have done that?

And how do you like the fact that I speeded up this cd version to match the speed of the original King 45?
