They are actually Quantums, I have a pair. They are shaped just like the Lavers (I have a pair of those as well). The differences on the Quantum is the Sole/Tread, the heel is more staller friendly and the the stallable spots on the sides and toes are made of a super thin mesh so you can feel the footbag is if you were bearfoot. Yes learning to stall is best done with sand. Also practicing bare foot also helps tremendously. You learn to stall and kick with the uneven surface of the foot, when you put on flat top shoes or sandals you will be amazed at what you are able to do. Warning, practicing barefoot is very frustrating!!!!

i think it would be easier with a hacky sack. Not EASY, just easier than it would be with a soccer ball.

It would be easier because since the hacky sack doesn't bounce, you don;t have to control it as much, but with a soccer ball, one wrong bounce off of your foot or any other body part, and you'll mess up.
