She's adorable! there's so much ignorance fear and hatred out there but this is WONDERFUL, I think we should all focus on the fact that this little girl couldn't hear and now she can! that's the only thing that matters.
I'm so sorry about the soundtrack! Last month I tried to comply with copyright requirements and agreed that YT could replace my musical track with standard music they provided -- not realizing this would also trash the separate audio track with the audiologist walking us through the process, Li-Li's chatter throughout, and the sounds she was responding to. I'll upload a new video very soon.
I'm astonished that some people here are questioning the use of these implants. How can giving someone another sense EVER be considered a bad thing? Look at the reactions of these childrens faces as they first hear sound. It's a whole new dimension for them. Any reasons offered as to how this can be a bad thing are ridiculous.
Congratulations! keep doing that. Do a lot of Speech therapy, is a long proccess but at the end it WORKS. Our son was the FIRST COCHLEAR recipient in Toronto, Canada. 1993. Now he' s20y and with the new Nucleus Freedom he enjoys it. To see my son's first hearing type on the Search: "Sankevso"

im not all against cochlear implant, but the parents should not make children suffer with a device that is drilled through the skull... The parents should let the kid decide if they want cochlear implant...
I agree that as parents we should protect our children from suffering and ensure they have every opportunity possible open to them.
Li-Li made it clear that she wanted to speak, that she was extremely bright, and would thrive with multiple languages. 6 months after activation, she signs fluently, speaks clearly, and hears beautifully. It's not the right answer for every deaf child, but is for us. Parents have a responsibility to make such judgment calls throughout their child's young life.
@elanarab There absolutely are. There's nothing wrong with being deaf. The deaf have languages of their own and can communicate, albeit differently than hearing individuals. Some people are completely happy, confident, and comfortable being deaf. Some actually thing that implants are very negative because they seem to look down upon the hearing. Plus, keep in mind, you have surgery to get an implant and to some, the risk is too great. I think it's a great option to have, but not for everyone.
@elanarab I can understand what you mean, but I'm not sure I agree. I'm not deaf personally and honestly probably would want a deaf child of mine to get a cochlear, but think of it like a culture. If you were born in one culture, you'd accept those views as being correct. If someone else said their views were right and yours weren't and you should abandon yours for theirs, you'd probably disagree. It's basically like saying "to hear is right and you're wrong" which isn't really true

@Grendl Are you saying that there are some deaf people who reject the implants and would prefer to be deaf?

@Sarry777 That opinion seems based in fear, which is sad to me.

@PrincessOfDarkess000 Ugly? I've seen them, they are not ugly at all. You need to work on some self esteem. There are far worse things.
