He said he was teaching English and making about 12K USD a year. Law School is a scam. Law School is for people who got worthless undergrad degrees in the Arts but want a high salary. Then after they graduate from school they learn that the US already has a massive oversupply of lawyers so they have to invent things to sue people.
Become a professor. free education, plenty of jobs, here and overseas, and tenure = free education for your kids. Seriously, ride the education bubble.

"Why do we view coffee shops different from law schools?" 3:42. What a fucking idiot. It's because COFFEE SHOPS DON'T CHARGE $120K TO DRINK COFFEE, AND YOU CAN CLOSE DOWN A COFFEE SHOP, but can't discharge your student loans.
Note that law school does not operate in a free market at all. Many of the law schools are state-owned. Also, allowing loans to be non-dischargeable in bankruptcy is a form of government intervention into the market. Furthermore, it could be argued that law school employment stats are very misleading (fraudulent). The college education racket does not resemble a free market in any way.
How can we ethically allow these naive youngsters to waste three years of their lives while racking up huge amounts of nondischargeable student loan debt if we know that there are too many lawyers? Instead of placing the barrier to entry into the profession after this expensive investment, wouldn't it make sense to cut the number of law schools and seats in half and place the barrier to entry at the point of admissions before tens of thousands of people suffer irreparable financial damage?

A JD immediately overqualifies you for EVREYTHING besides law so it actually results in CLOSING many doors to other fields - not opening them. Employers are not going to hire and pay extra $ for someone with a JD that lacks any sort of substantive experience in that field of work.
Even as an outsider I can tell most of the stuff they say are excuses and bullshits. Those deans seriously have no integrity and no hair.

Simple points for incoming 1L's:
1:If you can't get into a Top 25 Law School, get the fuck out of this field while you still can.
2:If you are borrowing more than 50,000$ in debts, again, get the fuck out of this field while you still can.
3:If you think that BigLaw is the be all and end all of Law, take my previous advice and get the fuck out of this field while you still can.
