@TheMFan92 Yes, it is very easy to play. Starts on G, then it is a D/F with your thumb on the 6th string, second fret, then Em, the C or Cadd9. Both work. Enjoy.
the reason I love bands like matchbox and goo goo dolls is cause ther music sounds from the heart and genuine. they are not trying to follow trends or the latest sound..they make good music...great music and thats the whole damn point of it. i love this song and this band
@poopandfun Actually, if you watch his fingers, they go with the beat in several different way, even somtimes with the strumming of the guitars. Its a habit folks have to keep the beat. Have found myself doing it several times before without knowing. So in a sense it is a "twitch", but highly doubt after all his time on stages, MUCH bigger than this one, that he'd be nervous. But then again, I'm not Rob.
@ChrisDaWolf well why would that hand be to do the beat of the strumming? it would be the other hand. the hand that's twitching is the hand he make's the chords with. Just though I'd point that out.
man its crazy i figured out how to play this 2 mins into the video. Such a simple song with basic chords. Any guitar novice couldve write something like this. It just goes to show what rob thomas can do with a basic song and turn into gold. Pure emotional gold.
this song sounds like my broken up relationship. I did everything... while she did nothing but stay in her past and do the same thing her ex's did to her. I regret it now.
Goodness! I hope Matchbox twenty's still together! the are the best band ever!!!!!!!!! and Push is definatley my most favorite song they have ever written! They are like the only band in the world that can rock the stage flawlessly! You can tell they really love what they do. When Rob sings you can tell this is definatly his passion and obviously his talent! love you Matchbox keep on showing those amature band whos boss!! ;D
love these guys! so good live aswell! the only thing is whats with robs hand at 3.13? its like he had a twitch that day, he puts it in his pocket then, maybe thats why he was scratching with that hand??!
He may not sing in G in concert because he has to sing so many songs and it puts a strain on his voice(also - on tour = many shows in sequence) - so, conversely, it wouldn't be a big deal to sing it that way in a video.
he sings it live the same key as its recorded- the guitar player said it was in G because he was tuned in standard. for this song, they normally have another guitar to pick up that is tuned a half step down- in the key they recorded it
The acoustic version is actually a full step down tuned to DGCFAD... 2 frets down if you didn't understand that SecondFromEternity... Also its recorded in G on the original version of it
they are playing it the same way they always have, but they originally tuned it a half step down... play with the song and see.../ this time they are tuned to standard, that is why one of the guitars plays an F# at the beginning... it would be the same as playing a g with the guitar tuned half a step down.(this is how my band plays it) i am trying my best to describe what is happening- he is singing a half step higher than he normally does-pick up your guitar and you will see...
@runnerx05 Couldn't agree more robs voice is awesome, I loved Tabithas secrer as much as Matchbox 20 and his solo work is great too, the man can do no wrong what a legend!
Yeah he says the f word...in fact, i don't think i've ever heard anyone with a bigger potty mouth in concert than Rob... however that's part of the reason i think he's funny.
I say them over the summer too... He does do a little bit of jumping around, but I wasn't on that side of the stage... I was about four feet from the lead guitar player the whole time, and Rob every now and then... it was a sweet concert!!!!
That "new" guitarist is actually Paul Doucette, the "original" drummer of matchbox.. he plays acoustic and keys for the band now since the last album... And he's Thomas' best friend and a gifted musician!!
And also he isnt that gifted kyle cook is WAY better for sure and everyone knows it , at guitar than him... I like the Push in the key of G but thats it stop changing them...
Kyle is still in the band... he's in this vid on the right side of Rob.. Paul replaced Adam on rhythm guitar and Ryan Macmillan took over on the drums
Seriously rob thomas and kyle cook is the shit! That new guitarist is alright he just isn't as good as i thougth he would be its in the same key just a higher pitch and its annoying how he plays it like that... I like the old Matchbox 20, the original, where they first began.... So all of you haters that like to post hate comments about me let them begin....
Sorry this song is in a different key, of G, i was referring to how the new guitarists plays alot of their songs in a higher pitch at the same key.....
Excuse me, Mr., but the key of this song, IS "G", exactly how they played it in this video.
BUT, since you have such perfect pitch, I want to point out the fact to you that Matchbox 20 (as they were called at the time, the numerals, not the word) recorded some of their songs tuned down a half-step. That would make the song in the "technical" key of Gb, or F#, whichever you prefer. The new guitarist is playing the song exactly how it was played on the original version, yet he is in A440 tuning.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
LMAO puhhhhlease, Rob said regular key? And he said push in G. Then he said you threw him for a curveball or something saying that thats not the original key seeming that Rob Thomas HATES singing in the key of G and you know i hate you "musicians" who think they know everything about tuning? Lol wow and the point is that was not the original tuning and you took it too far using terms that are far out of your vocabulary. Good luck playing cuz u can't even play Time of your Life by green day haha!
Also go to the official music video of push and tell me thats in the key of G haha wow... because obviously its not good job "Mr. I know everything about Guitar"
Whoa, buddy.. calm down.... I sure hope I click on your name and you have great covers of songs like Good Riddance... which apparently I "can't play"...? hmm... Guess the solid 5-star rating is just for show, huh?
Fine you want me to show you how to play the real way lol.... i figured the video would be pointless to put up because the songs so easy but apparently not
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Go watch Bullet in a Bible, by Green Day. The newest live DVD. That's how Billie Joe plays it. It's the electric version. Not the original version on Nimrod. I couldn't figure out how in the hell you could think I was playing it "wrong." I realize I replaced the last Emsus4 chord with a Csus4. It's a cover, so I put a LITTLE bit of my own spin on it.
I really don't care what key it's played in as long as Mb20 is playing it! And, after seeing them perform live in Seattle in March 2008 I love them even more! Awesome, guys! Thanks for putting videos up on YouTube for all your fans to see! Luv ya!
Its not from drugs...You have obviously never been to a Rob Thomas concert, lol. That is his beautiful way of dancing. Spastic hand movements, lots of jumping and body swaying..If you have never seen him dance, THAT could convince some people of drug use, lol...But my god is he a musical genius, and the way he gets into his music, it takes him over, and that is why he does the things he does. Not drugs...just awesomeness. The only drug he does is smoke a little marijuana, which he admitted.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
he needs to lay off the drugs, his fingers are just shaking wayyy too rapidly for drugs to not be effecting him. good performance, but not what he used to be capable of, vocal wise.
I dont think it is drugs... sometimes when someone is on stage, and they are uasualy holding/playing a instrament... it feels awkward to them, and are unsure about what to do with their free hands, so they try to find something. I am sorry for my bad spelling :-/
that was a little bit of bullshit. the song does start in G cos the key they use between G and Em in the verses (i think its called G/D...i dont know the name, i just play it such), has a unique sound not replicable in any other key (at least on the guitar) and it has been used in their released record. They were just fucking around with the crowd.
yeah i tink they normally play it this way...its definetely like this on the record. but that note you're on about can be played in any key. and its D/F#!
um no it wasnt bullshit. on the record, and in concert, the song is played a halfstep, which would make his G chord sound an F#. The guitar on this performance wasnt tuned down, which would mean the song was played in G.
He nailed this
