Thin Lizzy is hands down one of the greatest duel guitar bands of all times....I was fortunate enough to see them a few times in concert ......Amazing live.
too bad they quit too early, i'd love to hear more of these style of song writing in the "what if" next album, kind of like a long length of telling a story, bass/synth driven hard rock/heavy metal, similar to prog which is a good thing. Also, for darren wharton, guy is great. The last song i know that in the same style is the sun goes down on t&l
Even though Lizzy was on its way out by 1982, and some say they were getting dull and burnt out. This performance is truly stand out. Renegade is one of the most underrated albums.
I remember it as if it were yesterday ,I was there and was 17 years old ,,fantastic to have seen the best rock band of that time ,the concert started with Angel of Death and i didnt know what hit me,when the smoke bombs went off with the first chord ,,!!!!

Yes, you can tell Phil IS singing about himself for sure..and yet that makes it even more touching. Always one of my fave songs..and periods actually. I really loved Black Rose, Chinatown, and Renegade. Hard to believe he's been gone 25 yrs. Phil was the greatest. R.I.P. (and yes, the keyboards by darren wharton are pretty hard to take!)
I love the song but it makes me really sad- you can tell Phil is talking about how he feels about himself- "A clown that everyone puts down", and "wonder why he cries on the inside". His mother has said people used to spit on her and Phil when he was young just because he was black. What a horrible thing to do! RIP Phil.
I think that this version got a lot more of feeling in Phil's voice than the album version. Look how he smiles at some points. This song got some of my personal favorite Lynott lyrics, together with Do Anything You Want, With Love, Fight or Fall, Borderline, and I can go on forever with the list. Damn, Philip, why did you died?
Thin Lizzy was and will always be one of the greatest bands. Phil Lynott is the king of spades forever and ever. Thanks alot for posting this great song. ROCK ON!!
I'm a fan dedicated to the bone to Lizzy and I have listened to every album made by the warrior and his gangs and I'm sure when I say that "Renegade" is a great album and I'll never understand why people hammer on it so much . There are albums that are less LIZZY trademarked like "Shades .." and "Thunder & Lightning" . After all I guess people just go with the wave of opinions by lame critics and wannabe fans .
Thin Lizzy never did a bad album. The first one's before "Fighting" are different and underrated. The golden era "Fighting - Black Rose" is as good as it gets. The last touch with the 80's... Chinatown, Renegade and Thunder And Lightning are good stuff too! All albums isn't as good as their strongest but I enjoy them all for what they are: pure rock n' roll !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Renegade album is the worst album Thin Lizzy made! Only good tracks are Renegade and Hollywood (Down on your luck)! The Thunder and Lightening album was probably the best album they had done since the Gorhan and Robertson line up!!
It's a matter of taste maybe, because i like the whole album! Please, people, stop saying RENEGADE isn't a good album. A great album with great sound production.
@LONELION17 you are right , i love that album......all lizzy are the best albums in rock history..lizzy forever.... to Phil Paris Lynnot....my herooooooooo.
i knew of lizzy from quite awhile ago but i've fully absorbed them over the last few years....definitley my favorite tune playing right now....cheers phil, i'll visit your statue one day for sure! you're the greatest!
Just because I post this on every Lizzy video. As a NY'er of Irish heritage, I do declare that Lizzy is the greatest band to ever come from the Emerald Isle. And yes, I have heard of U2.
Had the honour of seeing Lizzy on this tour in the Glasgow Appollo. Of Irish parents and love the Irish influence. Seen so many bands since and nothing has come close. Thank you Philo for being my hero and inspiration in life. Paid my respects to your statue and final resting place. God had a plan and I'll never understand it for you had so much more to do. Still Out Here xxxxxx
Lizzy Rule! I'm 16 from Ireland and have been to the bronze statue and its amazing, these new rock bands like Artic Monkeys and The Killers are nothing compared to the oldschool rock (Maiden, ACDC, Metallica, GNR) They where the real bands. I inherited my dads LP collection and always have it on.
good on ya, im 46 and have listened to Lizzy from the start, they just get better and better with every listen, great musicians from Ireland, Rory Gallagher comes to mind.
Philo was the definitive Irish Rocker who halped launch Irish bands like U2 into the international scene. I was so pleased to see them erect a Bronze statue of the King where he used to busk in Dublin - my hometown. "You can always here the King call"
Phil's songwriting WAS unmatched and his singing was terribly soulful. And what great players. This is a fantastic version of Renegade. The unfortunate thing is that the general public knows him by Jailbreak and The Boys are Back... which are okay - but nowhere near his best songs...
As well as albums that should of gotten them more attention like Fighting, Bad Reputation, Johnny the Fox, and my personal fave by them, Black Rose; A Rock Legend. Even Chinatown which I know some people did not like that much, which each listen it grows on you.
@carmassi4 Yes! I have all of their CDs and the CD that got me addicted to them was Renegade, Jailbreak was probably one of the last CDs I bought from them. The songs on there are great, it includes my favorite song "Running Back", but people miss the great, undiscovered songs that are hidden under the reviews of their best hits
Had the honour of seeing Lizzy on The Renegade tour in in The Glasgow Appollo, pure genius! I was only 15 and totally blown away, seen nothing to compare since and seen it all! Still Out Here AND Still In Love With You xxx
What a turd burglar! Even if he taught Lynott some bass, he didn't teach him songwriting or singing while playing...those are skills from within. I love how people make those sort of claims in an attempt for a little piece of fame. Like uncleambient said: "Brush who?".
This is an AMAZING live version of one of the Greatest Thin Lizzy platters ever made. I find that the song is better live than in the studio, I know that's a Lizzy trademark, But I think that THIS song sounds the best live. Out of ALL their songs.
It's strange, and a little annoying, that when people begin discussing this era and the music Darren Warton is always overlooked. I think adding him to the band was of the greatest moves Lizzy made with regards musicians.
Thin, I agree, reckon Darren brought something to Lizzy that was, at the time, not really accepted in a two guitar rock band - you only have to listen to the intro to Angel of Death to realise - Phil was brave to do that - Tho I read a few books where Phil made a lot of bad decisions !!!!!!. Respect your view. Take care
Unbelievable....Renegade is my favorite Lizzy album. Never got to see them (42 yrs old now), but thank god for technology. Excellent post, keep them coming!!
wheres time gone..42 soon, still love lizzy.Poxy kids dont realize lizzy harmonys were responsible for maiden etc..scotts playing was very country rock at times..anyone else notice this?I must dig this underated lp out & give it another spin!ta.
hello to my friends of dppc! thats my music...withaout knowledge of music. simply feel lynott, thats all; be also a renegade; we need all of us at momo!
Snowy White on Lead w/ Scott in Germany ... Rill Nice, Very nice Indeed. P.P.L will live Forever in the Hearts of MANY. This one included, Thanx for Posting this. There can be only one. THIN LIZZY Lives ....the Last of the High Kings
thanks a lot for this.Snowy white may not have been the ideal guitarist for lizzy but he co-wrote this song and that's good enough for me.Check it out
And did you poll every "person in the universe" on that...or is that just your opinion? Someone could hate the lyrics and like just the music...but that must have escaped your mind at the moment you replied to me. Sure someone could like it for a similar reason, but it's the experiences behind a person that make it slightly different for everyone. That's what I meant.
thanks so much for the upload can you plz put more of the show up and don't take this video off whatever ye do it kicks ass and this is the london show the band didn't realease
snowy white must have been close to leaving at this stage ..last show -or tour ? Anyone?

And did you poll every "person in the universe" on that...or is that just your opinion? Someone could hate the lyrics and like just the music...but that must have escaped your mind at the moment you replied to me. Sure someone could like it for a similar reason, but it's the experiences behind a person that make it slightly different for everyone. That's what I meant.

Love this song...it's like they are describing me. It's a great feeling when you can personally identify with a song.
