  • Wow the hypocrisy on display is absolutely amazing. Just think about it, it's as if a famous Muslim now started doing adverts for a hypothetical company symbolic of the Regime controlled by Milosevek

  • damn ... i see this commercial at least once or twice a year and never gets old or loses the fun .

  • Good job Doc Brown didnt use a Type 3 as a time machine then eh?.....

  • ever put together a type 3 door mechs and glass? TOTAL pain in the ass. and the engine hatch is too damn small. hard to work on but they look damn cool.

  • My 7th grade math teacher, Miss Seehaver had one. It was bright yellow and she looked sexy in it because Miss Seehaver was sexy and the car was cool..

  • whats the year and model?

  • This, of course, was made before Dustin Hoffman became a big star...and when he did become one, a few years later, VW still hadn't made any major modifications to the Fastback, so they were able to still air this commercial...but this time with the benefit of it having a recognizable big star in it pitching their product.

  • When he slammed the door it sounded like a thin wooden cupboard. Ok I give up, where IS the engine? 84 mph, wooowww!!

  • @frenchmarky The engine is under the rear trunk.

  • @frenchmarky Not much in speed but who even hits 90 in the US?

I bet most modern Camaros and Mustangs only get half of their hp actually used and despite the new Camaro being bigger the Fastback has a bigger trunk, no wait, it has 2 trunks that are both bigger then a Camaros.

  • @frenchmarky You don't understand the concept of a classic, cheap car... They what are you doing here?

Ok, almost every car hits 84 Mph... But in the times, it wasn't so little. Plus the car's simple, beautiful, fun to drive, fairly safe for the time, an fast enough. In a street it will get as many looks as anything you can throuw on it's side, and still for little money... Bad car? Nah. It's as good as when it came out if not better... And it's not all about speed either.

  • this commercial mystified me as a kid - it just ended that way! Classic

  • omg!

  • I loved my 71 fastback. Should have kept it.very neat cars.

  • ahhhahahah, very funy...

  • hehe... great commercial!.

VW, should start making these commercials again!, just a car on white background, and a celebrity showing the car.

  • I like the idea of two trunks!

  • That ending was great. Awesome delivery.

  • Shut up redneck.

  • @Psycho9263 lol

  • VW probably could have done a whole series based on this two trunk joke :)

  • even though its a fucking commercial, he is still pretty good at delivering it. there lies the talent of a great actor

  • Bettlejuice150 you stole my thoughts, I was thinking the same, hire the smallest actor in the bussiness to make the car look bigger, hahaha!!!

  • How come a care so old, made completely from steel can go 27 miles a gallon when a equivalent car from today can hardly do better? Look at computers, they are many more times faster than comparable models of 10 years ago. How can the internal combustion engine progress so little?

  • well car companys are just really stupid.my moto and vw's is the simpler the better.and its true i cauculated it with my freinds fast back it got 23 mpg and its got over a hundred thousand miles on it!

  • The fuel consumption of internal combustion engines has improved dramatically over the years. However, in the last 2 decades, safety legislation has meant that car manufacturers must add advanced safety features, increasing the weight of the vehicle. It is astonishing that car manufacturers have been able keep the fuel consumption the same whilst adding these features.

  • I WANY A Volkswagen 1600 (Fastback) :)

  • This model of type three is the shittest one. The back of these ones is corny. We have 3 Type 3's, all from 1973. A manual notch-back, an automatic notch-back, and a manual square-back. As well as a 1956 split screen micro bus (which most people call a kombi)...

  • Interesting that he talks about "lots of elbow and leg room" although he is one of the shortest actors around.

  • I think that's why they asked HIM to do the commercial. Makes the car even look bigger!

  • So... uh... where IS the engine?

  • In the back, UNDER the trunk!

  • It doesn't have one, that's why you can outrun it on foot.

  • and in the back, where most cars have their trunk we have..... a trunk? ^_^

  • gotta love the pre 70 fastys....

  • Whoa, 1966! This is before he got famous!

  • Was this before or after "The Graduate"?

  • I think this is before The Graduate...

  • The year before.

  • I loved the type 3. I wish they imported the nothback or sedan along with the fastback and squareback to the U.S.

  • Featuring Dustin Hoffman!

  • I missed that part, but you're right! I add this in the video info!
