yes thats pretty much what sweeps are.......notes of a cord played seperately in sweeping motions. Most are chords anyway, although Im virtually certain guys make some up out of groups that aren't necessarily chords.

Hammer ons and pull-offs can be added to make more complicated licks out of them to more economically pick the advanced stuff like Frank Gambale plays etc. Gambale is probably the foremost sweeping player

he actually does have good sweeps, the tone of your amp can effect whether you sound clean or not too. I have a practice amp and my sweeps sound decent but when I plug into my mesa they sound way better. his tone isnt the best.

No, it's all about compression. You know, the shitty practice amps show what the guitarist really can play. And the huge tube heads(like mesa dr solo head)compress the sound and hide all imperfections in your playing.

yeah, tubes compress the sound man. that's why they respond so well to both a lighter touch and a heavier touch. that is also why, in such non-master volume amps like an old marshall, you can get a clean sound by merely rolling back your guitar's volume. and that's why they don't hide anything, too.

Overall sloppy play with a bad tone. For sweeping, I'd use a soft tone with reverb (use reverb only if you can play it clean as hell)

I never thought JerryC was that good of a sweeper. His real talents lie in his crazy use of pinch harmonics and the timing he uses them at, as well as his immense creative ability. He is a good composer. I wouldn't say sweep picking is his forte, but he ain't bad at it either.

Herman Li is a great guitarist. Just he because he playsa different style than what youre used to doesnt mean he isnt very good. Many guitarists shred yet herman is probably one of the best shredders. But comparing him to someone like satriani is silly because one is progressive rock and the other isnt. So hermans playing is meant to be flashy with less emphasis on the melody then someone like satch or vai. All are good in their own way.
