I haven't heard this beautiful song since the Summer of '77. With all respect to her number 1 hits, this is by far my favorite. This brilliant flower managed to blossom at the height of the disco era and holds a very special memory for me. I was between my junior and senior year at the University of Pennsylvania that summer and I can remember EXACTLY where I heard this the first time. Where has all the good music gone? Thanks for the great post and the memories Mike.
Damn I always wondered what happened to this song. I haven't heard it since that summer but it was huge for me and it seemed to be on the radio all the time. Then after that summer (77) it vanished. Too cool to hear this for the first time since I was 11 years old. Great memories.
listening to this brings me back to my younger teenage years, as my local radio station played this stuff all the time. Thanks, Mike, you are every bit as genious as the program director in my tiny little town!
Excellent, Mike, well done footage. I remember Dick Clark praising this song. I played a Jennifer collection album with this song today in the music store where I work. I first started collecting her with the self titled album with this.
Music Mike-What I love about you is you bring back songs that may not have been as popular, but were great songs in and of themselves. Thank you for posting them and giving me the opportunity to reminisce.
I remember I bought this album for "Right Time of the Night" but when I heard this song it was all over for me. My all time favorite of Jennifer's. "Song of Bernadette" is a close second.
my musical taste runs from my always fave Blue Oyster Cult to, well, I will never understand that this AMAZING song never was more popular. What a great piece of music. Oh yes, to be back in my V-6 Capri in '77 listening to Jennifer Warnes with (now what was her name?). a cutie though
All the right elements come together on this one. I saw Jennifer in concert in May in Portland Or. She is such a warm person with a wonderful quirky humor. And her voice is as rich as it ever was.
In my opinion, this is my very favorite song of Jennifer Warne's. I have always gotten the chills every time I heard it and still do. Hearing it brings me right back to the wonderful summer of '77 and makes me sad at the same time because we can't ever go back. What ever happened to music???!!!
Thanks for making me 18 again, Mike, and for sharing this wonderful rare treasure!
This song was always a hit to me! When I was 16, the song's lyric described my idea of the 'perfect' summer romance...and I did get to experience such a romance in 2001 when I met my sweetheart... whom I'm still with today :)
This has always been my favorite Jennifer Warnes recording. Her voice is marvelous and the song offers a gorgeous melody line with such meaningful lyrics. It brings back some happy memories for me.
Great memories from the Summer of 1977.This terrific tune did get some airplay on a few AM radio stations in my area. My favorite song by Jennifer Warnes. Thanks Mike!
God, I forgot about this song. Reminds me of Joplin, MO, the college there, living with my grandma in Neosho, MO,driving old Highway 71, taking my grandma on errands, and the life that teenagers go through with being in love, being rebuked, and doing some rebuking myself. Ha Ha! This song is so beautiful! Okay, I'm going back in time now.......
BTW, this song has certain stylistic similarities to some of Barry Manilow's hits (particularly "Looks Like We Made It") but less overblown. Makes sense considering that both artists were on Arista.
This song did reach the top 10 on the Easy Listening (now Adult Contemporary) chart in 1977, at #9.
I have read that when Clive Davis heard Jennifer's debut album for Arista, he told her he didn't hear any songs that were commercial enough to release as singles, and so "Right Time of the Night" and "I'm Dreaming" were put on the album as last-minute additions. "Right Time..." became the first single, and the rest is history.
I never heard this song before but I love it now. Jennifer's voice has the warmth and soul of Karen Carpenter's and the intimacy of Anne Murray's. Thanks Mike!!!
Thanks for posting this unappreciated gem, Mike. This whole album is great -- "Right Time Of The Night," of course, but also "Don't Lead Me On" and a brief but beautiful hymn at the end, "Oh God Of Loveliness." One of pop music's most expressive voices, IMO.
Jennifer Warnes has one of the best voices of all time. I own all her albums and I definitely think she's not been given her due as a great writer and performer of popular music.
Great song Mike, the only song from her i know was "you're the one"..Oh by the way do you have a copy of Little River Band's Mistress of mine? This song was never made it big, i don't know if you have an idea how did it go in the chats way back then...Thanks God bless!
Thank you for finally getting to this wonderful song Mike!! It's always been my favorite Jennifer Warnes song and I could never understand why it wasn't more successful. Keep up the superb job!
This is my favorite song by her.....it gives me chills to this day......

Beautiful! I've always love Jennifer's voice. It's so distinctive.
Mike, did you ever get a chance to hear Jennifer's "Famous Blue Raincoat" album.
It was a huge hit in Canada....selling over 300,000 copies up here. That would be equivalent to 3 million in the States.
It's an amazing album too!
