@cfazekas0441 I don't know :) I hear many, many versions that are much better...my technique isn't great, there are things that I should be able to do and can't, and this is how it comes out. Thanks, though ... I do like the sound of it, too.
@Bisbonian Maybe your technique isn't great (I undestand about blues guitars, not banjos), but you have the feeling, man. I love that song and you played it so well. It's just the feeling. Congrats and thank you for upload. Don't stop playing!
@skateboardtoshoegaze Thanks :) I think it's kind of average...check out some other versions out there. Very versatile song...no two people seem to play it the same way.
@Bisbonian absolutely!! there is nothing as lovely as music from the mountains, I always loved the sound of a banjo, my father had one and sometimes i would sneak it out of the closet(horrible place to keep an instrument!) and try, but I never got the hang of it :O) i have a dulcimer that I get a lot of enjoyment out of... she sounds lovely..(eventhough she is missing a string at the moment). i'm new to youtube, going to see if you have anymore songs on here :O)
I'm going to build one of these again! I gave the last one I built away. Your video has inspired me to build another one for "me". I think I'm going to have frets on the next one though.
Yes, this one was definitely "for me". The walnut tree used to live in my mother's front yard, until it fell down. She had it cut up into planks, and has been dragging some of them around for 20 years. I finally got the last of them..and have enough left over for an autoharp for her.
They're fun to make...I'll have to try one with frets eventually. Post a video!
Thanks, Hunter. Coming from someone of your talent, that means a lot. I usually enjoy myself a whole lot more than this video shows...I was having frustrating trouble with the camera. Two more similar banjos almost done, for friends of mine. I have as much fun making them as playing them. :)
Thanks Bill. Wish I could play and sing at the same time, like you can! I'm starting to work on it, though...I'm fairly new to playing music at all, so this is all a work in progress.
I did pick up some of the style of this song from Tom Smith, and I see your version was a response to his. Funny ow all three versions come out so differntly :)
that's a beaut. sounds great, too. i have a ton of questions i'd like to ask you about it, actually. if you have a facebook account, hook up with mine. dwayne strohm, vancouver, b.c. network. hope to hear from you.

Cool sound for a banjo. Really demonstrates the link of mountain drony music in open tunings to Indian raga music.

I can't believe you built it from scratch.
