  • Wow, he looks magnificent for being 28!!

  • MOW & Citation lovers blame Secretariat heart was so big because he was given Steroids. Ridiculous to say the least but they say MOW & CY were cleaner than satin sheets. Thats the way it goes when you have hate in your heart for some horses. If they don't be careful that hate of thiers may lead to a heart attack from telling big lies.

  • @rscarbro100 you are really something. Get over it. Other horses are great and have faithful fans too!

  • @cindylou6004able Your exactly right Cindy. Other horses are great & never said they were not. I respect any horse that is your favorite & must I apologize because Secretariat is much better than MOW. MOW can't help it because another horse came along & did things better than him. One thing I can not get over is that horse 'Secretariat'. He was just unbelievable was he not??(smile)

  • @cindylou6004able rscarbro isn't just a fan or faithful...he is a fanatic, the kind who wear blinders...Jim Jones, John Wilkes Booth, bin Ladan...quite a boor...

  • @rscarbro100 ignorant people will make such claim. Secretariat gets his big heart from Princequillo. Through science research they've discover that Male(Princequillo) passes his heart to his daughter(Something Royal) who then passes it to her son(Secretariat). Same goes for Sham who get his big heart from Princequillo other daughter Seqoia. Secretariat got his speed from his father side(Bold Ruler-Nasrullah-Nearco). Nearco was a short distance speed horse.

  • @zXSwordXz Thats correct. It got the best out of both sides. He was lucky to get that were so many seen to have. not. Thanks so much for the information.

  • there has been no other horse like man o war. its amazing because he existed almost a century ago.

  • I saw his grave at the Ky Horse Park. They say he had bad colic and ate too much too fast.He died I think from colic.

  • He died from a heart attack

  • I read that when he was young a woman owned him with her husband, but he was sent to war and was out over sea so she named the new colt "Man o' War" then sold him to ...grr I forget his name but he owned man'o war untill the horse died.

Big red's owner was also offered 1mil for him, but his owner turned it down ^-^ what a great guy :D lol

  • Mr. August Belmont. The namesake for Belmont Park.

When he was sent off to WWI, Mrs. Belmont named MOW, "My Man O' War" but when he went to auction the 'my' was dropped. Sam Riddle liked the name, and kept it.

  • Ohh, lol I didn't see the MY in the name. Well, I guess thats ok. I got everything else right exept for the MY part :)

  • There are many references as to Man o' War having a larger heart in studies of the X-Factor. It may have not been done with an autopsy or maybe the people doing the study have access to information not available to the general public. Concerning Secretariat, they didn't let the medical staff keep his heart or other organs like other horses. They were buried with him.

  • According to these researchers, other racing champions identified to have carried large hearts include Man o' War, Count Fleet, Citation, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Mill Reef, Nijinsky II, Northern Dancer, Native Dancer, Kelso, John Henry, Spectacular Bid, Alysheba, Easy Goer, A.P. Indy, Forty Ninerm and Cigar. A remarkable list indeed.

  • Which is weird, because Man O' War didn't have an autopsy

  • @Icecat62 You can never forget Secretariat! He had a heart 2 1/2 times big!

  • QUOTES:

In contrast to Secretariat's 22-pound heart, the average weight of a thoroughbred's heart is 8.5 pounds. Many now believe that the ability of this legendary horse to run farther and faster than any who had come before -- and to win the 1973 Belmont Stakes with a record-shattering 31-length victory -- was based in large part on carrying a heart about 250 percent larger than normal size.

  • Man O' War was 30 years old when he passed on. His dying of a heart attack would be like any human in their late 80's or 90's having heart failure. He was just old! In fact, his heart was extra large, something they attributed to him being such a great race horse.

  • Actually, we don't know how large Man O' War's heart was

  • There was an article about certain racehorses with larger than normal hearts and the correlation between the size and their athletic abilities. Man o' War and Secretariat were two of the champion horses listed with larger than normal hearts.

  • at my barn theres a Thoroughbred that is a descendent of Man O'war

  • Do they race the horse?

  • Did, he was undefeted except when he was turned backward at the start (they had a band stratched acros the track, starting gates weren`t invented, or maybe weren`t popular, IDk yet), but Man O War finished second by a nose behind Upset!

He also won a match race against the first triple crown winner, Sir Barton! He later went to stud and Sired Man O War, and grandsired Sea Biscuit! He has a lot of champions from his line, he died from a heart attack and is buried at the Kentucky Horse Park.

  • He was an amazing horse. I had one of his Great,Great Grand Daughters, Halcyon Times and she was just as an amazing as he was. She had a Heart of Gold in everything she did for me. She was my event horse and could jump the moon! I owned her from 1998 to 2004 until unfortunately she passed from Right Sided Heart failure. I miss her so much and have not found a horse that could fill her shoes!

  • it kind of ironic a few of man o wars decendants died of heart problems man o war died of a heart attack and seabiscuit died of a heart attack also, and ur horse dided of heart problems too(im sssooo srry) but i guess it runs in da family .. o yea and were did u get ur horse iv always wanted to hav one of his decendants it my dream

  • i sure hope it doesn't run in the family!! I have a descendant of Man O' War's and he's such a sweetie that i couldn't bear it if he died! He looks so much like Man O War though. Same coloring, same build, same pretty pretty eyes. The one thing he does lack though is Man O War's motivation. haha. He is a lazy butt!! He's smart tho!! When we free jump him, instead of jumping the rails, he finds ways to knock them over so that he can step over them. He's such a sweetie tho!! Zan, my big red boy.

  • there seem to be tons of his descendants scattered all across the country!! i'm sure you'll be able to at least find one!! so if that's your dream, keep searching!!!

  • thanks ^^ where did u find urs

  • well, we got him from a family friend, and i can't quite remember where they got him before that. It was a barn somewhere in southern Minnesota but i'm pretty sure that they closed it down.

  • is there any racing videos of him, like his best ones like in the book? if so please please give me the link or tell me where to find it

  • Look up "Man O' War vs. Sir Barton" in the search box.

  • yea i saw that one and it is like really hard to see...lol

  • Its the only video from the race, or any of his races.

  • oh...thanks anyways

  • so nice to see a vid of him, recently found out that my mare is related (9th generation) to man o war, is there more of him?

  • I have a few more (1 or two) of him. There is footage of him in my War Admiral, and Sir Barton videos =-D

  • Loved the video. I've only seen photos of him before.

  • I just love him! He was such a beautiful horse!

  • Thank you for sharing this! I didn't know that film footage of him existed.

  • Oh, there is alot. Trust me. I will try to get it on here.
