  • omg i wanna walk around so much, i love to explore abandoned houses, but i never been i skyscraper :)

  • Omg so fucking awesome, a UE dream come true. Is it easy to go in there or is there a fence around it?

  • I say keep the building, don't take it down, and make it for homeless people. Don't provide them anything else free, just give them the building and see what they do with it. Make it a reality show.

  • I would've taken those beautiful wooden tables the moment they abandoned that building, just saying..

  • Imagine if we had money...and good government

  • Why are there fire extinguishers everywhere?

  • wow, that's amazing. I'm surprised they let you go in

  • Is that the Book Building?

  • How can the billionaire who own these building be allow to just abandon them who the real criminals ....i know lest blame the poor black folks who don't own any of them; not one single build.

  • Reminds me of Pyongyang N. Korea.

  • they should tear it down

  • wow clean up the mess and you have a nice living place ;)

  • this is a nice building... and to think detroit was a bustiling city once.

  • i hate what it has turned in to. in the end of the vid that apartment looked nice

  • @fan119 You must be very young or damn stupid. Africans were kidnapped to the states as slaves, and ever since they have been segregated and controlled by the goverments and kept in poverty. If you fill up a place with alot of hungry people, eventually the hungry will take what they need.

i dont expect you to understand that since i believe your a spoiled shithead from the suburbs. you wouldn't last a day in the projects.

  • @dnjsrbij actually most of the african tribes leaders sold their own tribes out. Kind of like what the government is doing to our military.

  • What the hell??? All of those Jazz items (photos, awards, posters, etc.) strewn about that abandoned office need to be saved and given to a Jazz museum.

Talk about disposable culture. Truly, very sad...

  • what the fuck happened to USA?

  • @TheLukaszencja BLACKS

  • man I love this video. It's really post-apocalyptic and a great glimpse of what life would be like if there was a cataclysmic event with few survivors.

Great video. Watched this for an Urban Geography class. Just a little praise for you

  • The real ground zero.

  • HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF EBAY? I"VE SEEN A BUNCH OF STUFF I COULD LIST ON THERE OR CRAIGSLIST!!!! I"D BE A MILLIONAIRE IN LESS THAN A YEAR.

  • It must be the former set for "Night Court" I just a picture of Mel Torme on the floor, why don't they fix the place up for the homeless??

  • can we sell Michigan to Canada for, I dunno, like 5 horses or something?

  • @tacoland2000 It might be nice to have a little bit of Lake Michigan on our side, yeah. :)

  • @tacoland2000 No, i wouldn't accept it for free.

  • looks a lot like the abandoned/decrepit factory towns of the Soviet satellite countries.

  • they should make zombie movies in detroit !

  • Forgive me, is this real? this is like a scene from I am legend or resident evil.. what happened here?

  • @foxdmulder $30/hr. for shoddy labor plus workers being paid not to work, resulting in a product of decreasing quality, resulting in a steadily decreasing demand for said product.

  • @foxdmulder Niggaz happened there.

  • are you flying?

  • too much mic noise.. keep everything away from hitting the mic.. you are annoying people to death u dumb $%^#@

  • how the hell is all that stuff i the building still??? i can imagine all the bums and punk kids that have been in there.

  • Word

  • It's as if the city had to be evacuated after some sort of nuclear meltdown. It's literally like watching Chernobyl footage.

It really kills me to see the collapse of American civilization, and laugh it up kids, but Detroit is an example of what will happen if the US stays on it's current path of shrinking middle class, rich getting richer, and poor getting poorer.

  • Any place that is run by negroes will ultimately be ruined, destroyed, and turned to hell!

  • @dnlcast2 wow is a "negro" free world your picture perfect utopia? Perhaps we should go get some rope in your eyes? If you opened your mind, you would realize that there are many cities like this all over in the USA and not all of those are ran by "negroes". There are bad and ignorant people in all races and cultures, it's common sense and your comment proves my point. By the way, it's 2011. Who says negro?

  • Name a couple of those cities, at your leisure. To my knowledge, the only other that can compare in terms of statistical degradation and collapse is Flint, MI. Flint is Detroit's neighbor. I'm not defending anyone's rhetoric... but it seems you should be able to defend your own. Also, do you mean "were run" when you say "are ran"? Mysteries are abound in your posting...

  • Detroit is one vhg dumpster dive

  • Which building is it? I recognize the architecture, but I don't recall the name.

  • Looks like a lot of good garage sale stuff there. Shoulda set up some tables at the base of the building and sold the stuff.

  • Can you take the stuff that is abandoned? Or is that considered looting? I see some items that could bring in some good cash.

  • Detroit : a city we could easily do without.

  • @betover68 Say that to the 4 million people who populate in or around that city...

  • wow....

  • i would love to do what your doing..

  • how many of the buildings around you are also abandoned?

  • Was the building really full of stuff? Amazing how so much has been left behind.

  • I'd like to know why he was whispering in an abandoned building?

  • There was a lot of Charlie Parker stuff in there. Was that skyscraper where his record label's office operated?

  • ill take all those plakes etc. from that building and sell them or keep them then ill throw a party through out the whole building. Fuck i wanna go there now

  • I have too much time to wast and I found out what building this is :)

  • /watch?v=JVoGW5fgdkM

Detroit: a city that once was

  • THIS IS NOT RACIST; its the truth.

Detroit was once the worlds most promising city...It would of dwarfed Weston, Massachusetts, Alpine, New Jersey, Palm Beach, Florida, Scarsdale, New York Ect...

    But!...

The 1967 Detroit riot, also known as the 12th Street riot. Blacks start looting, killing, robing,

A 68 year-old Armenian immigrant, beaten to death by a group of black youths,

A married mother of two. Shot, as they tried flee from a mob of black youths beating a white man.

  • Dude I'd be ebayin' all that stuff

  • What building is this? /what is the intersection?

  • what is the name of this building

  • fucking need to level it. Just level it all

  • Oh, I'd love to walk around in such an abandones skyscraper.

  • Why didnt you just take everything and bring it to the antiques roadshow :P

  • Very good video, The best i´ve seen so far

  • @perjanan thanks!

  • haha, im sorry, this may be my musician side talking...but i laughed my ASS off when the camera turned to what was so obviously a regular old snare drum, and in that STRAIGHT UP befuddled way said "what the HECK is this thing??" i mean, have you never seen a live band in your life? anyway, really cool video - its really eerie how much stuff from past lives is up in that haunted old building. how the hell did you get in there?

  • I want to go there it´s amazing to see abandoned buildings and things like that. Greetings from slovakia.

  • That snare drum was made by Ludwig and worth thousands. I can't believe you didn't take it.

  • DUDE UR NUTZ !!! BUT, yup i watched ur vid

  • If only we could turn the clock back when it was robust, the 50's....I was the last caucasion born in that zip code.

  • @reddnec yea just keep buying your "american cars" from mexico with parts from china.

  • NICE VID

  • tons of valuable shit left behind, id redecorate my house with all them abandoned paintings or some shit!

  • I hear Detroit is like this because of the blacks.

  • i feel bad for this city

  • i think i can see my apartment in this video

  • fantastic...but is it legit ?

  • @90038jhon normaly no. but go for it if you want.

  • All debates aside, I find it sooo amazing and nostalgic to see awards and plaques, once Cherished and hung on walls by people, now Strewn about like garbage.

  • @pr9nkaholic thats one of the coolest comments i've ever seen on this site. what a great notion, i never thought of it like that.

  • @pr9nkaholic Detroit is just a glimpse into the future of most US-cities. They have been build primarely for business. Not for living. Detroit became obsolete with Japanese cars and more expensive gasoline. New York will become obsolete once the heart of the global financial market beats in Berlin, Beijing and Saudi Arabia. The anglosaxon empire is in its final phase. It's the same with all empires. Thats why its good not to have one.

  • @pr9nkaholic You're so right. These are videos of buildings, but they are really about people.

  • soooo awesome! I wanna go here so bad. I feel like it's kind of everything that is off limits in most cities, but abandoned and free to explore (or are they)

  • highbeam.com/doc/1P1-2305079.html

This was the jazz museum :(

  • The International Jazz hall of fame was sad. Me and my buddy where in Book Tower around that same time. U guys find the roof hatch in the elevator room? When we came down, after 4 or 5 hours, we ran into the security guard watchin the (Bookies was still there) place. The guy had a gun and wanted to know what the F we where doin there. I was real glad we didnt jack anything--I did want some of the stuff from the IJHF. Its gunna be"Green" Apts. soon,I hope. Nice work :) Oh, Ren-Cen is taller.

  • this is sooo crazy

  • in Germany where they make the BMW, in Bavaria , the divorce rate is next to zero.in Detroit , a city i respect, tough ,blue collar, every thing die when the music i loved die.fucking rap, pants on the ground what do you expect.brothers used to be elegant, with high level of curiosity, and Detroit probably was a great place to live. I am a immigrant my self and my restless spirit did great things for me.with out of curiosity every thing idles. that is my ecsplenation.

  • I see a damn good rummage sale!

    Back up the truck.

You know you could do that and do a nationwide tour of festivals and cash in.

  • There's lots of loot there. You fellers take anything? Find anything cool?

  • You lucky bastard! How did you get into Book?

  • detroit looks like a war is going on there or that a war just ended and the USA lost. that place should be fixed up.

  • Whats wrong with you Americans?, why not renovating the whole area?.

  • @Zoza15 with what (or whose) money where? Don't fail to take into account the room we have in this country too.

  • What the hell? Americans, they leave a huge historic skyscraper...Omg Some people should buy this Thing for a hand of dollars and do some commercial work with it...That's so damn strange...

  • @Schlittenfahrer93 Except very few people are willing to invest in Detroit, because very few people live there. The city's government id broke too, so these places end up sitting. They all have owners, but the owners don't have to money to do anything with the buildings. It's quite sad.

  • Comment removed

  • Who the heck leaves so much stuff behind when they move out? Or were they locked out?

  • What is the current situation in Detroit? Resumption of growth is occurring, or not? That's because I read a few days ago that investors would be getting some mega abandoned areas in suburban Detroit in order to establish farms. Also read about the challenge of relocating the current mayor in the city center, the few inhabitants of the suburb, to reduce the cost of maintaining street lighting, street cleaning and security, it already thinking about the transformation of the suburb on farms.

  • 50 years of democrat rule, this is what liberalism run amuck can do to a great city.

  • @scrapdaddy811 So the race riots, white flight, and the serious downsizing of the american auto industry had nothing to do with it?

  • @anythingbutcommon I would respectfully argue that the race riots and white flight, are symptoms not causes. as for the down sizing of the auto industries that is for sure a big part of the picture but how bad would it have to be for people and companies to just pick up and leave there homes there factories, keep in mind a great deal of detroits industrial base simlpy moved to more freindly states. my last 3 chevy SUVs where made in TEXAS, do you think that has any thing to do with race riots

  • if i lived there id be rich by now , go in there with hold alls , fill them with all them valuable objects and sell the lot on ebay, that guy said it himself that organ is worth atleast $7000.

too bad i live in the U.K

  • @b191191 Except it's considered trespassing, and if you get caught inside or it can be proven you were inside, you go to jail. Most of the buildings don't look like that too, most ARE cleaned out by scrappers and people taking souvenirs.

  • @anythingbutcommon

It’s such a shame to see great American sky scrapers built by great American people being left idle like that, unfortunately in the U.K we only have about 5 or 6 nice sky scrapers in the whole country & a hand full of others that have no architectural or aesthetical value what to ever. It’s a shame to see them left to deteriorate like that in the US.

i didn’t realise the punishment was so hard , in the U.K most that would happen is a $200 equivalent fine.

  • @b191191 Yes, it really is sad, but what's even worse is there is nothing you can do about it. Luckily Several buildings have been renovated like the Westin Book-Cadillac hotel, which was built by the same people that built this tower shown in the video. Hopefully Detroit can turn it around and regain it's once glorious title.

  • are u guys kidding me? are all the skyscrapers abandoned as well? what happened in detroit? a disease or smthng? :) when can i move in then? my own skyscraper, is it?

  • @GoneWildAbroad ....ZOMBIES!

  • @Fan119 Or is it that white people - who are historicaly in a better economic position in America - moved out of the neighbourhood when they couldn't find jobs to another town or neighbourhood. At the same time black people who were poorer didn't have the resources to move anywhere else and stayed...

  • @Fan119 Whites have run down their own communities. I used to live in Oklahoma, and Henryetta, Muskogee, Sand Springs, and Oklahoma City have been run down by inbred white crackers.

  • @Fan119 Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.

If you don't get the message, go figure.

  • @Fan119 What are you smoking crack black people didn't fuck over the city

  • @Fan119 we came here because of you

  • @Fan119 because of them it looks like this

  • @Fan119 tribal government doesn't mix well with modernity.. i guess it's a big "oopsy" for slavery

  • How did you come in?

  • DETROIT ROCK CITY BABY!!!

  • These comments are hilarious. People saying "Oh Bring your gun down there, they will find you." Talk. Talk. Come down here. Walk the streets you see in this video. A Video makes it look like the worst place in the world. And ignorant people, who have never been to Detroit, come comment like they know something. Come down here. See for yourself.

  • @IxCLuTcHxI ignorant people? i lived in detroit for two years (balfour and east warren) the city is full of animals

  • @IxCLuTcHxI I live in detroit and I'm still scared to hell from walking down the streets

  • @gmodfreak09 Same Thing in Mt.Clemens. I think I saw a 12 and a 14 year old smoking.

  • how fast did the economy of the city center collapse?

economy based primarily on car manufacturing?

white flight to the outer suburbs after desegregation?

    what happende? what timeline?

  • The guy can barely figure out that he's looking at a drum but can properly appraise an organ?

  • One of these days

  • Kinda a scary... Peoples SSN Numbers and other private records can be in those papers... I like how the one guy is just sitting there as if he works there, reading the papers and stuff. I wonder why people left their Items there though? Its almost as if they all ran out do to some scare...

  • @ 2:54 is that a dead cat?

  • @Frankie3112Nld No It is some type of hose.

  • @mustange550 allright than.looks remarkable though.thnx.

  • @Jay4P No. Detroit is not as much of a shit hole as people say.

  • “These buildings, they are designed with repetition in mind, repetition of power, patterns everywhere, as if the patterns were made by machines, I guess the economic machines of the motor city,” says Damon.

  • “The towers look like computers,” Gareth observes. “The shadows look so much more geometric and sharp when you see them on tall buildings,” he continues to muse. And the horizon, when I view it through the camera lens, looks so bleached by the sun, bleached into an apocalypse.”

  • “It looks as if a giant rodent has gnawed his way through all the articles left by the office workers,” says Rochelle. “Why are there trophies and jazz records left in cardboard boxes? Some of this stuff looks expensive.”

  • Wow! Just like they up and left!

  • When the jobs are gone, so are the middle class, welcome to America: circa 2020.

  • I would go here just to get all the shit to sell it.

  • awesome.

  • WTH? That's weird. It doesn't look like anyone properly closed whatever business was there. It really looks like it was just abandoned. Spooky....

  • @thespawnof66 You ever seen Cass Tech? They walked right out. Books in the classrooms, notes on the chalkboard, lab equipment on the desks. Still sitting there today, after 5 years. They literally all just left school one regular day and nobody ever went back inside.

  • White flight.

  • I need to know the street this is on, danger level, and also the level of use it gets. I know it's abandoned but it still has use

  • That furniture is probably worth at least several thousand dollars, then the scrap, the antiques, collectibles etc. I would be tempted to clear the building for free if I was allowed to keep everything from it.

  • @polarbear3333333333 get ready to be stabbed

  • Detroit will be completely abandoned in the next few years. It should become a zone to freely explore but beware.

  • @7477238 htrjnrth

  • you dont need guns here

  • Just drop a bomb on it.

  • An archeologists dream... instant ruins not buried under hundreds of years of history.

  • dang that place could be a potential gold mine for antiques and old stuff to sell

  • Detroit: America's largest ghost town.

  • It looks like out of a horror movie after everyone ran away in a hurry.

  • I got vertigo watching the footage where you seemed to be standing on a ledge near the top of the building. If you had fallen, that would've put you in the running for the Darwin award.

  • to many junky ass sounds junky editing u fucked it up

  • them nigger riots played into this

  • learn how to use a camera

  • The Book Tower has a really good view of downtown Detroit.

  • I've always wondered what the inside of those buildings were like.

  • and you didnt take the painting?

  • Detroit loves you!

  • is detroit as much of a shit hole as people say?

  • @Jay4P Yeah it is. :-(

  • look these guys were methheads out looking for good shit to steal they can go through the whole building in two hours posing as a cleanup crew these teams can go 24 7 365 with no fear and 9 times out of 10 find the most precious item and get it out of there their inguinity is flawless and their determination the feircest comaridity is strong what holds them together is the drug crystal meth dirty word to some miracle cure to others with a photographic memory of this adventure with their comarads

  • Made In China.

  • Detroit would make an AWESOME movie set for a zombie movie!

  • How did you get access into that building. I would love to get in it and look around! Who owns all that stuff? This is cool!

  • @mustange550 the guy that owns that stuff is the nothing.

  • This is a direct result of Ronald's Reagon's philosophy to let the rich make more money, and undercut labor. It was supposed to "trickle down" to everyone. This video is proof of what those polices accomplished.

  • @yurei8 Incorrect. This happened to Detroit starting the late 1960's, 1967 to be exact. It had nothing to do with Reagan. This was a direct result of violence and a race riot.

To inform you a little more, rich people start businesses, which pay taxes and employ hundreds and thousands of people, like you and me. If there were no rich people, we wouldn't work anywhere.

  • @jerrytimes

Are you saying the federal reserve stealing 23.7 trillion dollars from the American people has absolutely nothing to do with the current state of Detroit?

And if rich people start businesses why can I provide you long lists of names of people who were not rich who started businesses and can you explain to me why so many rich people were not born into financial wealth?

    Thanks.

  • @SadegoGG You blamed Regeans philosophy on the current state of Detroit. Detroit's downfall started long before Ron was our president. That is a blatant lie.

You can provide that list because most people that start businesses are regular people. Simple enough. By not taxing the rich with ridiculous taxes, it helps keep their corporations alive and expanding, which helps pay us regular folk and pay the government taxes.

  • @jerrytimes

Can you please specify where I said Ronald Raegan ruined Detroit? Also, i'm glad you now realize you don't have to be rich to start a business. Moving on, why is it so important for the American people to pay 35% of their incomes in federal taxation? Because the government lies about deficits by not discussing their investment? You should look into the government's Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports. Government debt is held in investment, high taxes are not necessary in America.

  • @SadegoGG I thought you were someone else when I typed that. My bad.

  • @jerrytimes Saying that the riots are what killed Detroit is not true. America has lost a great amount of its manufacturing base. But we were told before hand, that more jobs were going to be created by tax cuts. The money went out of the country. Loss of middle income jobs hurts the entire economy. I'm not attacking all of the wealthy. I'm saying that the general welfare of the people, requires policy support for the less wealthy also. They are the most numerous.

  • @jerrytimes correction it started long before the late sixties - do you think the suburbs and the freeways that led to to them magically appeared . have you ever heard of the practice of blockbusting . have you ever thought about who got wealthy .

  • I would so be leaving with that snare drum at 1:15

    Nice find!

  • To think that we hosted the Olympics here...

This is why you never vote in an EX-basketball player for mayor.

  • @ComprimisedXInsanity Did i miss something? When did we host the olympics

  • @wilde4200

I did a lil bit of research and found out that John F. Kennedy signed into law to host the olympics in 1968 but the bid failed. My mistake. So I guess Detroit almost host the olympics but in it's current state I don't see that happening in the near future.

    *shrugs*

  • OH and GUYS WTF!?!? Fire extinquishers ... office chairs ... hard floor.. AND IT'S TIME TO
