  • What a wonderful idea. I love it!!!! I like the idea to be able to run with your friends no matter where they are.

  • Basically our innovation is:

-Equip exercise machines with more sensory abilities (as many as possible) including the typical ones plus new ones such as a scale, metabolism rate monitor, percent body fat calculator, glucose level reader, and cholesterol reader.

  • -The equipment then sends this sensory data to smart devices (including phones, tablet PCs, laptops, gaming consoles, & TVs using an open source communication protocol. This way it is following the iPhone train of thought of creating a device with all kinds of sensory abilities and then leaving it up to the app community to make good use of those sensors.

  • -We felt it doesn't make sense to build an expensive color touchscreen into the exercise equipment when most people already have one. Especially since those devices already have short-range communication capabilities as well as internet access.

  • -The uFit App is to ICON equipment what iTunes is to the iPhone. The app is built to cater to the younger crowd by making use of facebook & twitter. It caters to the middle age demographic through interactive games and competitive events. It appeals to the older generation by linking with WebMD to give them whole health assistants.

  • -Lastly the app makes use of gaming elements to make it fun, but these things also serve as commitment mechanisms. For example, I could commit with a friend to work out 4 times a week. Then to help me keep my commitment we could make a deal that whoever doesn't work out 4 times in a week first, has to give something to the other person. This incentive program nudges people to keep working out. The app would also periodically suggest contests to app users to remind them of the feature.
