  • I have a weird question: hasn't Nastaliq hampered the efforts to increasing literacy in Pakistan and Afghanistan? It looks kind of hard to read, let alone write.

Why wasn't a simpler, less elegant form of Arabic script used instead by the government, something like the simplified Chinese script of the PRC?

  • Calligraphy is Persian, long before any nation wrote script, only Chinese may come close when they started. Arab never knew about this until they invaded Iran & learned. Quran was written in our calligraphy & Arabs want to take credit for our inventions, creations to promote the cult of Islam.

  • wow, what an art

  • Beautifully written. Aside from in the script I am writing in, I can also read in Devanagari script. Trying to learn Nastaliq script is very difficult for me lol. I hope I can be able to read it soon. I always get confused because of the right-to-left reading. Wait, I confused myself again lol. Nice, though. Keep up the good work, friend. You have the gift of creativity.

  • I think you are really sick and you have a great disease.

I suggest you go to a Doctor.

  • ...what did he say? lol

  • That's wonderful calligraphy. What ink are you using, if you don't mind me asking?

  • Truely elegant. Thanks for sharing.

    Javid Iran.

  • Thank you very much for your compliment.

  • WONDERFUL "NUN" AND "LAM"

  • Thanks

  • Does it say "Chabni khalk tawaan gerd saydaa hal nazar"?

What does it say and what does it mean?

  • It says:

be hosne kholgh tavan kard seyde ahle nazar.

  • At least I was close, wasn't I? :)

  • Yes to some extent.

I will send you the translation of that poem later

  • I'll force myself to translate: The God created "kard seyde" the people of looking.

    Did I hit any word?

  • be hosne = without beauty?

  • These are perfect lessons for calligraphy! Thank you and bravo!

  • I'm sorry, I don't know your language.

Would you please be kind enough to write your message in English?

    Regards,

    Hamid

  • Eliana said: "My congratulations (or well-wishes), your script/writing is very distinct (I think better translated as "unique") but you have great artistry in your script. I am from Peru, South America and I don't speak English but hopefully (lit: Allah Willing... an Arab loan phrase) you can come to understand my message. Congratulations, your calligraphy is very beautiful."

I second it! Studying Adabiyaat-e Farsi, and wanting to learn Nastalliq, can you recommend a video or book course?

  • Beautiful Handwriting and I wanted to learn but I don't know how to write. I have seen your English Calligraphy and it helped a lot to me. so please upload some basic of Arabic calligraphy. Really tnanks a lot to upload videos.

  • Thank you very much for your kind words and compliment.

It is very kind of you to think so well of me.

I try to make some videos in Persian Calligraphy in future.

I wish you a very successful Year too.

    Hamid

  • can u tell me which pen is that and where can i get it?

  • This is a kind of reed which is bred in a city in Iran. The name of that city is Dezful.

I think you may not find it in your country.

  • i can do urdu calligraphy pretty good...

  • What kind of ink is this?

  • In fact this is not ink. It is a kind of chemical powder which was brought for me from the Air Force.

I have heard that it is used for those pilots who have ejected himself into the sea.

Then this powder makes around them shiny to be seen by helicopter.

I hope this is clear for you.

    Hamid

  • I meant do you memorize everything you write.

  • If I write it for several times, I memorize it.Of course I have memorized a lot of poems because I have written most of them several times.

    Hamid

  • Wow. You memorized a lot of the things you wrote in the videos you posted...

  • Hello,

If you mean the translation of the Persian clip, It is:

By beauty of disposition, people of vision one can captivate:

Not by snare and net, take they the wise bird.

    Best regards,

    Hamid

  • Wows. You actually looked it up? I have a friend that live in Kuwait and I saw what language they speak and I thought it looked like Persian. :/ And for some reason I thought the paper was going to rip because the ink pen was making those scratching marks when you moved up on the flat side of the pen. Do you memorize the letters or do you have like a photo or something?

  • Would you please be kind enough to ask this question clearer?

"Do you memorize the letters or do you have like a photo or something?"

    Thanks,

    Hamid

  • on beautiful nastaliq script!!! I used to write Urdu a while back and it made me feel really nostalgic. Wat does this say? Husn-e Khalq tawaan kard syad ehl-e nazar?

  • Hello, thank you very much for your message.

The meaning of this poem is:

By beauty of disposition, people of vision one can captivate:

Not by snare and net, take they the wise bird.

    Best regards,

    Hamid

  • is this persian? is this language closely related to the european ones, right? lol it's indo-european but difficult to believe! lol

it's so beautiful. i would love to learn it :p

  • The language is closer to Arabian. And yeah, it's beautiful. I'm trying to learn calligraphy and copperfield. I'm trying to write in different languages too.

  • Hum. I've been looking for information about Persian and it has no linguistic relation with Arabic :) except the orthografic one. It's familiar with European and Indian languages. It's indo-european and not Arabic :P

  • They probably have quite a few loanwords from one another; I don't know about anything from "Persian," or its' dialects, but I know that Turkish and several spoken dialects of Arabic, (the writing is standardized,) have tons of words and even grammar from each other.

So while it's from the Indo-European family, its' evolution is undoubtedly closely related with the Semitic family.

  • Hello, thank you for your message.

The alphabet of our language is originally Arabic but in fact we have added four letters to it that people in Arabian countries cannot pronounce them but in this poem none of those letters can be found.

    Hamid

  • That's so beautiful. It seems you are being more meticulous, more careful, when writing this, than in your other videos (the letters, "Flourishing", "Practice makes perfect"). What does it say?

  • That looks even harder than Copperplate

  • Yes, It is really hard.

I have been teaching these three styles since 1996. Most of my students learn copperplate & gothic during 3 months but no one can learn Persian style even during 3 years.

    Hamid

  • GREAT JOB ;)

  • that was so cool. awesome handwriting!

  • kewl!

  • indeed Nasta'liq is one of the hardest and stunning calligraphies in the world.

  • Thanks for posting.

    It taught me a lot!

    Please post more.
