  • The movie is great...but the music!!! close your eyes and you can feel it take you to the most amazing new worlds...pure magic.

  • Best use of English Shires in film history. Crying shame the breed is declining.

  • Never understood why those "storm troopers" went out if the doors are impenetrable. They should stay inside, assholes

  • Great musical score, and the Fire Mare's are so majestic.

  • you cant tell me any flaming hooved horse afterward wasnt inspired by this

  • PROBABLY THE MOST MAGICAL SCENE EVER MADE ON CINEMA.

J.R.R TOLKIEN COULD NOT DO BETTER.

Its so fantastic and poetic., its like a dream.

  • Horses with burning hooves. Impractical... BUT AWESOME.

  • I just know they're goin' run into Carter Slade and Ghost Rider ftw

(Spiderbait's Ghost Riders in the Sky plays)

  • To me, special effects have one purpose: to serve the story-world and bring one into that world's reality. As far as I am concerned, they don't have to be hyper-realistic to do that. As long as people can suspend disbelief and the effects help them do it, where the effects come from---a computer, a puppet, in-camera tricks---mean nothing. Sometimes shadows on a wall can be more effective than six months of elaborate computer wizardry (then again, sometimes not).

  • Pure chills. Fantastic.

  • I had severel favorite parts in this movie...this is by far my most favorite part. The scene where the Firemares fly off the cliff gives me goosebumps to this day, and James Horner's score just adds to the effect. AWESOME special effects for it's time and it still holds today.....CGI is good but it will never ever top the magic that these movies hold. Thanks putting this up.

  • Ok, probably this movie was cheesy, but you know, you can't be objective with a movie you've seen like 100000 times as a kid. Still loving it.

  • LOL, ROCKET HORSES!

  • Mute the sound and play Nights Of Cydonia with it. Its BADASS!!!

  • The music reminds me to Willow... *Sigh* the memories

  • Anybody else getting the strange urge to round up a bunch of people and go on an epic quest?

  • I have just one word for who didn't like this movie assholes . THIS MOVIE ROCKED

  • @pussy785 Errr... nope, you are wrong when you wrote "this movie ROCKED". This movie not rocked, this movie ROCKS, it still ROCKS ;)

  • @pussy785

Goddamn Right! Go Firemares!!! 1,000 Leagues in a day bich!

  • Good honest adventure film. Loved it as a kid and always catch it on TV as an adult. And as far as comparing the effects to Jedi go.... ever heard of the word budget?.... or financial? lol

  • This movie was one of the best i see in my childhood!!! So magic..so perfect...the score so extraodinary!!!!...Men i miss this kind of movies!!!!!

  • The music is the best part of this above average "Beer & Pretzels" movie

  • I love the movie and specially this scene (and Horner's music) - the Shire Horses were a good choice because they have a strength that makes them believable as the Firemares

  • This music is exquisite. I believe they used The London Symphony Orchestra for the sound track...the brightest and most balls-y orchestra EVER! My kids and I loved this movie. Very good memories. This is a classic. No CG..Yesssss. Real movie making with imagination and skill..simply great fun.

  • It would suck to be in the rear. It looked like they were riding single file. Wouldn't the guy bringing up the rear get burned. Good movie. Great music. Hot Chick. Ewan McGregor. What more can you ask for. It's cool. He shoulda used the Glave a lot more though.

  • I loved how they had the Cyclops racing at the very end of this scene to help them out after he was supposed to have stayed behind to accept his fate. I guess he realized what his fate really was.

  • This did not have a Lucas sized budget...even the new Lord of the Rings stuff still looks fake...effects shots looks just what they are. Composited effecs.

  • An amazing film ! And this ride is so epic ! Horner is a god !!

  • Holly shit, Liam Nesson at 0:35 and 1:59 ! (spoiler alert: he dies at the end, ha ha)

  • What a movie, and what a song!

  • This has been linked on World of Warcraft forums.

  • @geekgymnast And THAT'S the reason I'm watching it right now :P

  • Has to be regarded in the top 25 movie scenes of all time.

  • Prince Colwyn: The reward is freedom... and fame!

Torquil: Freedom? We have it! And fame? Nah. It's an empty purse. Count it, go broke. Eat it, go hungry. Seek it, go mad!

    Goddamn Right Torquil!

  • Severely underrated film. I can't tell you how many glaives I built out of common household materials in the 80s.

  • Now I know where Blizzard got the idea for the horse mount with flaming hooves in WoW from.

Awesome scene, and one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. James Horner strikes again!!!

  • Definately one of Horner's best compositions. Had a real sense of adventure and fantasy. Very nostalgic and always great to listen to.

  • jua jua vaya chroma key... como ha envejecido

  • This scene made this movie absolutely MAGICAL for me when I was a little girl.

  • You know coming from a woman that's pretty awesome what do you think of that movie Legend by Tom Cruise?

I mean I think is an awesome film and I understand women like Tom Cruise in that movie and all but every once in a while when I say I love this movie everybody specially women mention Legend and say how much better it is than this film and how bad this is.

I don't think its bad or better I think one is more fantasy oriented and the other is more fairy tale oriented.

  • Cheesy effects? Ah, come on... It was 1983, what did you expect, CGI? :)

Sure, this music kicks some ass :D

  • @metallian84 Just because the effects are 'cheesy' is not explained away by them being made in 1983. Compare the optical photography to that seen in 'Return of the Jedi' made the same year. Look at the reality and dynamism of the speeder bike shots in that same movie. Just because something is CGI does not mean it is better than what has come before, or even good. Sorry to jump on this but I see many comments like this on 'youtube', and CGI in and of itself does not it better .

  • @awol1703 What are you talking about? When I said cheesy effects I didn't mean to degrade the movie itself :) I have nothin againts preCGI effects, most of the time they are even much closer to my heart than fuckedup CGI :)

  • @metallian84: As a matter of fact, CGI looks even more cartoonish than the optical photography of this film! If I want to see a Cartoon, I'd watch a damn cartoon!

  • @awol1703 I consider what you say is also got to do with the budget. Becuase ILM belongs to George Lucas he had the money and time to perfect the skills and all the good people under his wing. But for this movie I guess The producers had to pay for the special effects and I wonder to which company and team of special FX people they relied on and the money probably wasn't enough. But I still love the special FX and the whole story line. And ofcourse the music is great.

  • @awol1703 Plus I'm sure Jedi had a much larger budget than Krull....

  • @metallian84 Musically, visually, emotionally...way the best part of the film. Havnt seen this in about 15 years, then i find it here.. thanks for putin it on. Man i knew it was coming but i actually got a lump in my throat when the cyclops comes racing down the mountain :)

  • Spectacular idea spoiled by cheesy special effects... But James Horner's music is AWESOME !!

The scenes with the Widow of the Web and the Glass Spider are my favourites from this movie.

  • Such great music! The best part of watching this is that despite haven't seen this in so long, who would have ever known Liam Neeson is in it?!

  • This music is found in Disney's Rocketeer and at Space Mountain in paris

  • Yesss Liam neeson at 0:38. I knew it!

  • Excelent music, its been 20 since I saw this movie and still remember that tune i hated when the cyclope dies

  • 2:57 welcome back child

  • Those Horses are HUGE...I'm guessing Clydesdale's

  • Yep. Gotta love those big horses!

  • Close. They are actually Spires.

I only know this from reading trivia on the film, don't know a heck of a lot about horses. Only know they are amazing creatures.

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry, I hit the P key instead of the H key.

Sorry, the horses in the film are Shires, not Spires. My bad.

The firemares are played by Shire horses, not Clydesdales. That is was what I meant to say before I messed up.

  • I thought that's what you meant...

But these ARE Clydesdale horses. The DVD documentary (narrated by Tom Bosley) states exactly that.

  • Really? I checked on Imdb, and it said they were shires.

    Well, I goofed again.

    Sorry man, you are righ.

  • The EPA would have all those horses shot to death for making forest fires.

  • I don't see any forests :) Oh... I got your point, the horses did a "good" job :D

  • I love this movie and the music that plays when they ride the fire mares....I want a fire mare.

  • "I want a firemare!"

"Mm? What did little Eddie say?"

"He, uhm, said he wants a pony for Christmas."

    "No I didn't! Screw ponies!! I want a firemare!!"

  • best music EVER, best score ever, best movie ever lol :-D

  • My favourite scene in the film - just wish I could get the score on CD!

  • You can!!!

Put it into Amazon, there's loads there

  • There's loads on Ebay as well.....you're not looking hard enough

  • Comment removed

  • I did - I finally managed to get it from eBay a couple of weeks ago! :-)

  • Good lad!!

  • Epic 7 com4table watch while holding You Lady Echi

  • Cheesy?? Of course it is, and we love it :D But speaking about cheesy fantasy movies, go and watch the "Barbarians" or "Athor the Fighting Eagle" :DD

  • Their hooves move so fast they just sort of generate fire! It's really that simple. The fire comes from within the Firemares. Do you have to quote "Gene Siskel" when ever you have a question about a movie?

  • To quote Roger Ebert, "What are they setting on fire, the *air*...?"

    And hey...Liam Neeson!

  • The keyword is "fantasy". Do you really want to seek reality in a fantasy movie? :)

  • Infinity On...

  • It was made when there were great sci fi movies at that time, loved most of them all

  • this is the name i got for my team for USA track and field...look for it in 2008/9...the part where Rell comes=PRICELESS
