  • Mr Smiths, Manchester summer 1970 went like this on the dance floor : James Brown "Sex Machine", Equals "Black Skinned Blue Eyed Boys" and Free "All Right Now" then Mungo Jerry "In The Summertime". Please, does anyone else remember this sequence? I would love to hear from you. The sweat used to drip from the ceiling whilst you were on the dancefloor.

  • they are great, and eddy grant with the striped shirt on guitar

  • Its not Eddy Grant on vocasl Eddy is the guy in the check shirt on guitar, you can see him more clear on the clip baby come back (excellent quality)

  • @fishcakes205 right, eddy was one of the guitarists, not the singer

  • @fishcakes205

The brilliant guy on vocals is Derv Gordon.

  • found this at last,this was the 1st record i brought,still got it !

  • Eddy Grant is the guy on the far left with sunglasses and guitar. - agree w/ eloypath.

  • hey alphabetcity1,i luv the movie "klute"thnx for the remind.also check out "hang on in there "by the Stovall Sisters, same era different club, the "loft". i am also a laura nyro freak, she is very much missed.keep me posted

  • hey alphabetcity1 small word isn't it .be well

  • sanctuary 1971 TRIPPIN!!!!! luv it still as i did then.and have the 45

  • Hey Mikeymay,

I used to go to the Sanctuary too, and I too have this 45. Did you know part of Klute (Jane Fonda) was filmed there?

  • ULTRA FAB!!!!

  • 最高!

  • Theres Edy Grant on the left :D

  • punk funk!

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH EDDY AND EQUALS!!! ROCKING TIME!! NICE BEAT!!!

  • totally funk! great rhythm the lipsync may be crap however the message has eternal relevance

  • It's the great joy of tha times..it's the joy of my heart

  • No , it sure is'nt Ska...Another difficult - to- classify Equals song. It's Funky , but with a harder guitar sound. Derv , as usual , sings with more gusto than many latter day Soul fans can appreciate , but it's got Soul. I'd say ealy 70's Rock'n'Soul.

  • ykceps: Derv is singing, Eddy is stood next to him on rhythm guitar......

  • This is funk, man.

  • oh i LOVE this...memories of long gone days!

  • They don't jam like that no more!!!!

  • one thing to say: FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tune!

  • Great song. Spahn Ranch did a nice electronic version of it in the 90s.

  • No ska, but cool anyway. The one and only god song by this band.

  • @klausthemusician Shortly after this they brought out "Stand Up and Be Counted" which wasn't bad either. I bought them both anyway!

  • this is the greatest. song. ever.

  • Big hit in the NY underground dance clubs [the Haven and the Sanctuary] about 1971

  • MAN! THIS SONG USED TO ROCK THE HOUSE PARTIES AND CLUBS WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL.

  • Wow, forgot how good this sounded 39 years ago. Deep rumbling bass and riffy rocky funky ska beat. It's all there and this is awesome.

  • Excellent. Hartley C.

  • Just to confirm ,yes that really is Eddy grant, he is on vocals, the others are Derv, Lincoln and Pat on guitars, and My Cousin John hall on drums, when they put out this number Eddy, Derv, and Lincoln dyed their hair blond, bit of a shock when they turned up at my house for breakfast!!!!

  • Just to clarify. It's Derv Gordon on lead vocals.

  • @ykceps thats not eddie on vocals, hes on a guitar, striped shirt, red pants, sunglasses

  • That is Eddy Grant! Our Caribbean brother. Trinidad & Tobago loves you Eddy!!!

  • Is that really Eddy Grant on vocals?

  • he is the guitarist! xD

  • Top song. Top video. Top upload.

  • wow..forgot how much i loved this way back in the 'olden days'

    brilliant

  • early electro rock ......probably

  • Yes! Club Santuary...also Club Jungle...81 st and 1 st...those were the days...waaaaaay before Studio 54

  • More like punk than ska.

  • Nobody ever said it was "Ska" (it ain't) - and it sure not "punk" either!

  • Δεν βγαίνουν πια τέτοια τραγούδια.
