@melroy89 Hi. The sound effects are generated by the Mk I Phaser (the little black unit mounted on top of the pistol body). They are produced by a chip programmed by Art Asylum from genuine recordings from the original series and feature Stun, Warm, Kill, Vapourise and Overload. Personally I love it to bits.
Hi finalfrontier1701, No editing at all. I am cursed with a low grade digital camera the video settings of which are woefully inadequate. I burnt a Post-it note which allowed the camera to pick up the beam, but rather too enthusiastically. This is not a faithful rendition of that the Phaser looks like but if you watch the latest upload, this, at least is much closer to how it looks in real time.
The laser works best at night when fired up into the stars.
forgive me if I'm wrong...but there has to be some editing here. Lasers are invisible unless there is something for the light to bounce off of. Usually with laser demonstrations or light shows, this is done by a thin cloud of smoke or other particulate. This has to be done in After-Effects...rotoscoped in some way.
@finalfrontier1701 I have to correct you on that my friend. Most lasers that you normally see are so weak that you cannot see them but this one is very powerful, way over the 5mw reds you see at the dollar tree. Plus this is green so the eye picks up green a lot more than red and your camera is designed to do the same. You are partially correct though because according to the Tyndale effect light passed through a colloid like air it will be dispersed. The strong light hits dust in the air.PEACE
Ah ha! A lot of research and graft went into designing the circuit. The sound module of the hand-held unit actually drives the laser in proper modulated format so the beam pulses in time to the varying sound lengths. I'm the only designer to have cracked this problem I think, looking at the other examples of conversions out there.
nice toy

There are laser that are capable of 1 KW (!!!) of power IN A SINGLE EMITTER, it is called "thin disk laser", now you can build a laser rifle!

cool, how did you make the laser sync with the sound effects?

Yes great video. I like that phaser. I got my Tng phaser by playmates and it is great and better than most of playmates toys.!!!

Dude that is the coolest thing.
Fantastic job of syncing up the sound to the laser. The strobe effect at 00:25 is brilliant.
Where can I get one?
