Your drawing of the circle and asking if the bible gives us all knowledge is silly. God didn't created the those man made things. Man developed those things. But those things represent a principle that is embedded in everything around us, a principle God created. God created this principle that prevails throughout creation. When God created all things, He determined how they would operate. I think John 21:25 explains all of this
Even though I am no longer an Atheist as I have slowly arrived at Deism(no debate please because I don't care about Atheism Vs. Deism), but GREAT video. The Levitical laws are very disturbing. So eating shrimp, working on the sabbath, eating pork, etc etc are the SAME as murder? So since I haven't murdered anyone, I am going to hell for eating at Red Lobster? Really?!! They always give the cop out of "we are under grace" which is IGNORING the fact that the Levitical laws are bullshit.
why do u use the Bible to disprove God? .Jesus died for you and all of us.morality comes from God and the Bible.if there is no God to give us guidelines to live by how do we know what is good? if a rock falls on someone and kills them we can't get mad at nature, but if a man pushes a rock and kills someone we can punish him and rightly so.if we just so happened to be here by mere chance or a evolution how can u call that man evil or punish him if he just marches to the beat of natures tune?
I JOHN 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
I JOHN 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
REVELATION 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich ) and [I know] the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but [are] the synagogue of Satan.
@throwdini23 This is a fact. Having kn owledge ABOUT God is one thing. Everyone in America just about has that. KNOWING the living God is quite another. The Holy Spirit is in every fiber of your being, and isn't something that can be argued or debated out of you. Shame though, as the guy was spiritually new, immature, and seeking, and she will be held accountable.
I hope you failed to hurt your nephew. Even though you have posted this video, God still loves you and He is waiting with open arms and a compassionate heart.
@revalation214 You are retarded. This is a parody of an idiot and fail attempt to convert atheists. It is right in the video description. No one is hurt by knowing the truth: There is no gods or goddesses.
@Velox415 There ARE no, not IS no, were you paying attention to the grammar classes in all your "knowledge?" Do you realize how absolutely foolish a tiny little weak human is to state the claim that there ARE no God's?' You would have to have omniscience yourself, which would make you God, and there would still be one. Total illogical fallacy."For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you'll be like God, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:5) Same enemy, same lies.
@chriswooten7 "Total illogical fallacy" not only is that not a proper grammar, but it's improper wording as well — you either have a logical fallacy, or an illogical statement. Were you not paying attention to grammar classes? Do you realize how absolutely foolish a tiny little weak human is to state the claim that there IS a god? You would have to have omniscience yourself!
@chriswooten7 I made a mistake at 3am and wasn't able to edit, so sue me. Meanwhile, it's "gods" not "god's". There's no more proof for a god than for a unicorn, fairy, or a giant catfish that causes earthquakes when it moves. Science marches on to disprove religious dogma from around the world. And like I said before, quoting a work of fiction has no effect.
@Velox415 No, the God's' was in that form because I extend courtesy for ignorance in pondering the impossibility of there being more than one God. I have proof inside, it's proof for me, and He is known as the Holy Spirit. Science, mathematics, cosmology, etc. are wonderful to me, but ultimately and miserably fail when viewed as the only way to discover truth. If you really absorbed something besides the negative claims that allow you this false self-justification, you would see miracles.
@chriswooten7 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 1:11)...." Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:13-14)
@chriswooten7 There is no one more guilty than an atheistic geneticist, as he sees the intricacy, complexity of life, and knows that pondering that all that information was an accident is ludicrous. There is also no one more despised than a Christian with an education and sound facts.
Matthew 18:6...“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!" Research the 'sheep and goats' judgement for yourself. (Matth. 25)
@chriswooten7 "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that" ~J.K. Rowling, "The Mirror of Erised," Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, 1997, spoken by the character Albus Dumbledore
@Velox415 When Harry Potter is author of the most powerful, life-changing message with the #1 bestselling book for hundreds of years running, derived from over 5600 historical documents with 99.9% inerrancy, so profoundly elegant that no one saw the need to change it over 2000 years, let me know.
@chriswooten7 best selling book? That is not prove able, and it's very unlikely. Realize that there's more than just the bible that's been printed for a long time — take for example the Qur'an. Also realize that most bibles are given out for free — only those who go against Christianity's principles would actually sell a book of their religious teachings, even if it's just at-cost.
@MsHojat There are statistics every year from book publishers. I have doubts that if it were claimed that Darwin's Origin of Species were claimed to be the bestseller, there would be such skepticism. The 99% inerrant does not interchange with the word infallible, as it seems is the case here. Inerrant means that all the ancient documents, including the dead sea scrolls are that closely accurate in text from one to another. Your point adds the 'freebies' uncounted, along with the sales making #1.
@chriswooten7 saying the bible is inerrant or unmodified are both very laughable. There are so many changes to the bible which have been documented through history, and especially now though different versions. It's impossible to say that the bible is inerrant, even 99.9% because you'd have to be omniscient to do so. What one can say, it's that it's full of incongruities, and a TON of ambiguities. If something's EXTREMELY ambiguous, who even cares if it's right sometimes?
@MsHojat I care. God changed my life from a 3 pack a day smoker + weed(25 years) + 115 mg methadone(7 yrs.) + 3 mg. xanex(1 yr.), at 39 years old, filled with anger and hopelessness, to a sober college student with a 3.75 GPA. I have experienced the Holy Spirit in action every day of my life since May 16, 2010. When you know that you know, you just wish every one could have the same peace and serenity, that's all. It's a gift of God.
@chriswooten7 there's no physical act of god there. The effect which occured (and occurs to many people), while certainly effective, is not something limited to Christianity or even the concept of a god. The mind is given hope, giving it more confidence and ambition. The problem with Christianity is it also spreads a lot of improper and unproven statements along with some of the benefits if can give. There are better ways to improve someone than getting the to be Christian.
@MsHojat Wow, I think that when someone places their IDEAS of MAYBE how something happened, when they weren't even present, much less the one who had the experiences, it really speaks of a gross level of ignorant human pride. I have the Holy Spirit living in me, guiding me, teaching me, leading me into all truth. To assert your idea over my experience is reminiscent of the theories man so surely holds about so many events that supposedly occurred in his total absence. (evolution)
@chriswooten7 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Same enemy, still feeding spiritually blind people the same fruit. I'm sorry, dear. It doesn't have to be that way, as long as you still have breath of life.
@chriswooten7 It's being realistic&skeptical. Unless you can prove that it occurred to you, or could occur to others with evidence then there's no reason to believe it.
If I was to believe all claims made, I would be a believer in conspiracy theories, human abductions by ETs, Mystical powers of crystals, astrology, and a whole lot of other bull crap. I don't care if you think it's right — it doesn't mean it's right. There's no evidence to prove it right, so it's more likely wrong.
@MsHojat I have absolutely no time or obligation to "prove" anything to a scoffing, carnal-minded skeptic. Here's the food, spit it out or chew it. Don't let that pride deem yourself as more important than you should. His world's not all about you.
@chriswooten7 I'm not saying you are obligated to. I am saying that you should not be making extraordinary claims without the extraordinary evidence to back it up. You have the right to believe whatever you want, but it doesn't make your beliefs right. You can believe whatever, but you should not make claims about it being real to anyone else without backing it up with substantial support. I don't know what you mean by pride — I never said anything W.R.T. this being about me.
@MsHojat It's just odd that you ask for proof on here. What do you want me to do, really? How would that be possible? I simply have shared the pragmatic test of experience with you. The evidence is up there, as I was a hopeless addict, and no, people don't just wake up one day and turn from all those habits at once. If they had that kind of strength, they wouldn't be where they are to begin with. It's not like you say, "I'm just gonna quit." Not with multiple physically addictive substances.
@chriswooten7 I never said what you claimed I said regarding quitting an addiction — I don't know where you get that from. What I said is it is not a physical act of god, at best it could be an unproven mental change of state influenced by god, but in reality much more likely the effect on the brain due to a vast shift in mindset. This effect has been proven scientifically, and it's related to things like the placebo effect (sort-of the same thing).
@MsHojat 20 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
@chriswooten7 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.(Romans 1:20-23) Science will always discover more and more about how the universe works, and also willingly keep God anonymous as the author of it all. Doesn't it seem like yesterday you were a child? Life is short, don't waste it, and miss the whole point of your life. No effect is without cause.
@chriswooten7 Are you ignoring me? It sure seems like it. Why did you make a reply to me when you ignored absolutely everything I said?
Are you going to answer me? Are you going to explain what you think is right or wrong about what I said?
To be honest, your looking like a fool here — quoting something that I don't follow myself, that is not evidence, and which has nothing to do with our discussion. Like seriously? I'm just baffled at your complete incompetence at communication.
@MsHojat I've replied to every post, and don't know what you mean by answering you. You'll have to expound on what you deem is left unfulfilled by your perception. BTW,"The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Cor 2:14, NIV)
@chriswooten7 You never answered any of my questions or in any sense even addressed anything I said. You can call it a reply if you like, but all you did was press a button labeled "reply" then talk about stuff that had nothing to do with what I said, not answer my questions, and copy-and-paste of bunch of text which does not contribute to the conversation; Do you not see that?
@MsHojat If my replies are insufficient, please look up the definition of empiricism. I think you may be suffering a severe case of it. First order disciplines are not the only means of attaining truth.

@chriswooten7 And I'm only asking for proof due to specific claims being made. You have the choice of making the claims if you have sufficient proof, or otherwise it is unproductive to be making such claims. I don't see how it's odd that I ask for proof. People can spread misinformation or lie about anything, and it's important for others to get valid information. Are you OK with believing in astrology, ET abductions, "chemtrails", faith healers, Ouija boards, and scam e-mails?
@chriswooten7 You are truly ignorant, even of your own holy book. First, J.K. Rowling is the author, not Harry Potter; and indeed the books hit the #1 selling spot. And the bible is 99.9% inerrant and unchanged for 2000 years? That literally made me lol irl. The bible contains multiple errors; practically all of Genesis for example. Animals evolved, the moon is a reflector not a light, bats are not birds, there was no global flood, etc. The bible even contradicts itself at times.
@Velox415 You see, here's the problem. You're using modern discoveries and 'terms' to proclaim His word fallible. Look, if you created bats, and wanted to classify them as birds because they fly, you have that right. Just like Jonah's fish was so called because it swims, but today would likely be known as a whale. Standing on earth, the moon GIVES light, doesn't it light the earth at night? He always spoke in a language even the simple could understand, or He wouldn't be fair. Modern arrogance.
@chriswooten7 So it was more important for animal-sacrificing tribesman to understand every single word, than it was for future generations to understand that this book was divinely inspired by getting the facts straight and including things no other human knew at the time? Your god doesn't seem to have much foresight. So, are bats birds to you, even though bats lack feathers and are clearly mammals? And how hard would it be to describe the moon like a dull metal shield reflects sunlight?
@Velox415 You want proof God shared things no human being knew in OT times? Look in Leviticus 13:47-59, God supplied His people with unknown info about the dangers of mold and mildew, as He was protecting them. It took science thousands of years to realize microbial elements in theory, and that they were harmful to us. That alone speaks wisdom and knowledge, unless someone is just dead set on denial and ignorance. Also, His word assumes you have hindsight, to have compassion for past man's mind
@chriswooten7 Also, women noticed clothes came cleaner when washed in the river close to the sacrificial alter. The priest's offerings were oils and animals. The first soaps were made of animal fats and ashes. Just a coincidence that the same acts of cleansing our sins also cleaned our clothes?
@chriswooten7 There are also multiple fulfilled prophesies in the Bible as well, where there is absolutely no way the future events could have been controlled or manipulated. Many too many to write off as coincidence.
@Velox415 God is tactful, purposeful, and always has manifold accomplishments from a seemingly single act. If you possessed all the knowledge in the universe, wouldn't you have no choice but to keep much limited man on a need-to-know basis about many things? The moon served the purpose of giving light to the earth at night. That's what was important to Him. The reflection part was irrelevant. Look at how you doubt Him because of modern 'knowledge' of man. He knew precisely what He was doing.
@chriswooten7 Mirrors also appear to give light, does that make them a light source? Btw, bats not being birds is in no way a "modern" discovery, and it would be quite impossible to survive in a whale's stomach like that. It's not a problem with modern "terms" it's the fact the the bible is simply *wrong* about so much.
@Velox415 I have experienced the power of God to show to me, and reveal things to me that I could not possibly find out on my own searching. Your presupposition of Jonah's account is based on your foundational lack of belief that God is who He says He is. Knowing Him, I know that keeping Jonah alive was not a problem. The physical world, and laws of the universe we are subject to don't apply to Him. He laid them down, and does not answer to His own creation. Don't reduce Him to your capacities.
@chriswooten7 Also, the bible has NOT come down unchanged. In fact, in early christianity there was a lot of in-fighting over which books would make up the NT. Many rejected Revelations and thought of it as apostate, even satanic! The church pretty much persecuted any that disagreed, such as the Gnostics, and tried to wipe out records that they didn't agree with. The NT today has had many additions, eg, the story of Jesus and the adulteress was not in the earlier manuscripts; it added later.
@Velox415 *it was* added later. @$%#@ ran out of character space and trying to type too fast. Anyways, Mark 16:9–20, Luke 22:43-44, and other passages are often called into question as well. Keep in mind too, it's very easy for someone to write something and then claim it to be divinely inspired, eg scientology books written by a sci-fi author, and Joesph Smith himself was a known charlatan.
@Velox415 The books that make up the Canon are the ones chosen to be parts of scripture. The ones rejected were so because they lacked spiritual power, and ultimately failed to reveal the deity of Christ sufficiently. Knowing God, and His character, these books have been accepted for 2000 years because they're sufficient to lead the believer on His walk. There will always be disagreements about interpretations, therefore we have denominations.
@chriswooten7 Pay attention: Not all the books were always accepted. The books not here today were rejected by humans for arbitrary reasons. What was rejected by the Catholics was accepted by the Protestants or Gnostics, and vice versa. To the Gnostics the texts very much held spiritual power. Eventually the Gnostics were persecuted out of existence, though a few of their manuscripts were preserved. It could have easily gone the other way.
@chriswooten7 In fact, not even all the books here today are accepted. Right off the bat Jews and Muslims reject the NT. And there are varying collections of other books, eg the Book of Enoch is canon to a couple of churches and the Mormons have their own books.
@Velox415 Jesus deconstructed the ideas that man's works, actions, knowledge of the law was sufficient to justify him as righteous. Look at other 'religions,' and you'll see that the central theme says "do this, do that." Christ said as He drew His last breath; "It is finished." That means that we're justified by simply accepting what He did, which was absorb the Father's wrath for our shortcomings and iniquities. Would you have problems telling a surgeon you accept him removing a brain tumor?
@chriswooten7 I just witnessed to a young guy who is living with some Mormons today, and took him to our non-denominational, full Bible-believing church where the Holy Spirit's power leads the church, not a fabrication of man. He stated an obvious recognition of power, as opposed to falling asleep in the Mormon church. In a 1-hour study, I did a printout of scriptures that condemn the Mormon doctrine, and could have gone on for hours with it easily. No mistaking when the power is His, not ours.
@chriswooten7 There are lots of subtle poisonous doctrines today, as we are told it would be: Mark 13:22..."For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible." It's really quite simple, though. Examine closely, and you'll see if salvation is dependent upon what you do, or what Christ did. This is the dividing line. Salvation is a gift of God, and not by man. Also watch who any 'glory' goes to; man or God.
@chriswooten7 2 Timothy 4:3..."For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."
@chriswooten7 Passages that include human and animal sacrifice, a global flood, or a global 7 year famine for no reason I would hardly deem eloquent. Lastly, being old means nothing. Homer's "Iliad," and the "Epic of Gilgamesh" (predating the NT) are also old works of literature, but that doesn't mean everything in them is true.
@4:24-The purpose of the law wasn't be harsh for no reason the purpose was to detour people away from crime and such, Example it wouldn't be as common to commit adultery if they know they is a penalty etc...It also such how God view sin worthy of death. A physically demonstration of how God views sin and his judgement. Jesus died so we can be forgiven through faith in him, and delivered from sin. Amen.
@3:23-nxt verse, Leviticus 25:47-''And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and SELL HIMSELF unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:'' This form of slavery wasn't same because they would sell themselves to paid off doubts and such (Exodus 21:16) prohibits stealing and sell people under the penalty of death which was serious.
@MrEmeraldfusion If you want an example that Christianity doesn't condone FORCED slavery, just look at the fact that people who know they have rights given by God don't make good slaves. They'll throw tea in the ocean! Look at the stories about the slave drivers in our country beating the slaves for singing "Amazing Grace," or "I'll Fly Away."
They were full of hatred. The Holy Spirit's presence makes people grateful, not hateful, and creates gratitude, not attitude.
@chriswooten7 Please stop using a cop out like you did belittling the fact of what is WRITTEN on the page. Christians do that all the time. It's annoying. People being NICE to slaves is SO noble, they still OWN another human being. That is really screwed up, perverted, and backwards and I pity you for saying something so reprehensible. And you wonder why people denounce Christianity, take a look in the mirror and read the black letters in the Bible, not the white between them.
@chriswooten7 I say those things because I hope you would come to your senses instead of believing that owning another human being is A-ok as the Bible thinks it is A-ok. I say that to shame you because the world is made worse by human trafficking. I don't think you honestly believe that slavery is ok, but supporting a book like the Bible that condones human trafficking is just as evil as Charles Manson or Hitler.
@1:35-The Bible isn't intended to educate on all subjects in the universe rather give an understanding of God and attaining and maintaining a relationship with him. No,does not reflect a limited God.@3;16-God is the creator so he cannot violate his own law. God kills, and God heals. He gives life and takes life. PT 1
I have another challenge... I imagine you would not think it morally right to kill your child for being disrespectful. Am I right? Then the question I have for you is: where did you get this moral value? Don’t say the Bible because the Bible teaches that such children are to be killed (Leviticus 20:9). Jesus says that this O.T. law should be obeyed (Mark 7:9-13). Jesus further says that all of the crazy Old Testament laws should be obeyed (Matthew 5:18-19)...
I imagine you have as one of your morals that it is WRONG for one human being to own another human being. Am I right? Then the question I have for you is... where did you get this moral value? Don’t say the Bible because the Bible teaches how to buy and own slaves (Leviticus 25:44-46). It says in the New Testament that slaves are to obey their masters (Ephesians 6:5, 1 Timothy 6:1). There is not one word condemning slavery in the Bible. Not one word- NOT ONE...
Here is another method... Most Christians believe that all morality comes from the Bible. In fact. they use that 'fact' to justify their religions necessary existence. But if you point out that they have morals - strong morals - that are either not supported by the Bible or in direct contradiction to the Bible - maybe it will make them think. The following are two you might use…
I would like to recommend another book. Gd according to Gd by gerald L. Schroeder. Could answer alot of your questions and your nephews. Of course it wasn't written by a Christian, but by a Jew but some of Christianity and Judaism overlap.
So your argument is that God must not exist because he has a record of doing things that YOU find offensive (like allowing people to work off debt by becoming slaves for a maximum of seven years and supplying justice to law breakers)? Pretty weak argument...
Are you supposing that in order for the Bible to be true it should talk about every topic on the planet?...Or perhaps the Bible is a lens through which you can interpret every experience on Earth. If that is your argument coupled with a taxi cab fallacy of using scripture out of context then this is an insufficient proposal. You would more willingly believe in the impossibility that everything on this Earth came from a combination of chance+nothingness without any evidence. Think about it.
I didn't see the video this was a reply to, so I don't know if it's just satirizing the original one or not, but I had a huge issue with this argument which IMO makes it pretty bad. Not knowing how great a god is wouldn't make a person an agnostic by what seemed to be her (bad) definition of it. Many many (probably the majority of) Christians are humble in that they don't say they know there's a god, but they just have FAITH that there's a god. There's a huge difference.
@MsHojat By definition, a Christian knows there's a God, as fellowship with Him is made possible through the sacrifice of the blood of Christ. That's the whole clincher. 'Believe'. The faith part means that you have faith IN God, that He's your healer, provider, promoter, prosperity, kindness, strength, and eternal destiny. I know Him, and have seen my prayers answered in such profound, supernatural ways, there could absolutely be no denying it, I just look and think "Wow!"
@chriswooten7 I said many Christians, not all Christians. I'm sure many Christians are deluded enough to believe with absolute certainty that the Christian god exists, but those are not the majority of Christians. Most will say that it' either very likely he exists, or say something like "my belief doesn't matter, it's faith that matters". What you said is interpretive, not the absolute meaning. Your interpretation of having faith is such, but not everyone's.
@chriswooten7 and personal revelation is not proof, at least to anyone but possibly yourself. You could have mental hallucinations, biased mind, delusions, and other things. Even if there is a god (or just think there is), how would/do you know it's the god of Christianity and not some other God of a different religion, even or one of no known religion?
Quite certainly it seems that god does not answer any number of prayers any more than by chance, so that certainly doesn't help.
Name me one Atheist war. Wait you can't. All religion has done is create inquisitions, holy wars, chaos, ignorance, hate, prejudice, and intolerance and has hold back progress.
"Atheists are the big murderers of the world. look at atheists Russia...50 million killed an atheist regime..you can't argue your way out of history."
False, sorry but you're completely incorrect. The Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Renaissance, witch hunts, slavery, Persecution of the Jews. Almost every major war, conflict, genocide in human history has been in the name of religion, god. Not in the name of atheism.
I don't have firm beliefs myself, but you gotta admit that circle example was seriously flawed. Then again, June's was too. But it looks like you were trying to make yours serious.
Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. Spare nothing from the sword.
To claim with absolute certainty there 'Is' or 'Is Not' a god is both arrogance. For nobody who lives can ever know. That is why I am happy to be an Agnostic.
You are forgetting that if Jesus said to love, pray, bless, and do good to your enemies, (Matt, 5:44) slavery would end. In the OT, a slave was to be set free after 7 years, unless he liked where he was then he woud be made a bond slave. Slavery back then in Israel was not like what the Egyptians or the slave holders of the American Civil War era. Are you sure you know what you are talking about?
@vadouis "… which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you ...children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy: …and they shall be your possession. ...they shall be your bondmen for ever..."
-Leviticus 25 v 44-46
"And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money."
Jesus Christ wants to give us grace and heaven he desires us in his kingdom, we must first put aside intellect and roll with the conscience, our tutor that takes us to the alter of God....for the wages of sin are Death.... don't die a sinner, die a saint. pray for the lost sheep and sinners of the world
@chadwick0091 those who are saved are sheep of God but some have straid away. pray that they may kill their lust for the flesh and that they may not dwell with the sinners of this earth
flawed logic. The bible no where claims to contain all knowledge. It is simply Gods word, or in other words, that which God chose to say. God often will not tell us why, like why the Israelite was to wash their hands, or bodies at a certain time, after touching certain things, etc. Later we find scientifically, about the virus and bacteria, and it becomes clear. In short, God does not have to explain himself. God also does not have to be judged by 40 year old morality, if he created cosmos
@Tripockets Absolutely perfect reply, but don't you realize anyone who reads our posts will know almost immediately which of us is positively nuts and which of us isn't?
That's an erroneous figure and you know it. What's truly desperate is the lies told for religion. They're everywhere and do you know why? It's called "empty pew syndrome". That's right, churches are getting emptier and emptier. Hence the new attempt at placing theology in schools. But alas, we atheists don't allow that and it just bunches your panties so much you can't walk. Skulk a away now religitard, the world is moving past you.
Yeah...only sola scriptura is a Protestant doctrine.Major fail. You seem very ignorant and uneducated,no offence.Leviticus?Fuck sake.'Slave owning is a-ok in the Bible' Yeah, only Leviticus was a book of civil ceremony,it is not canonical and in Catholic tradition non-binding.Your sabbath story, see Matthew 12:12.Your nephew doesn't seem the brightest if a poorly though out diagram persuaded him,but hey thats protestantism. You should give Aquinas a read, much better than dopey Karen Armstrong.
Well, if you're going to be all *rational* about it, I mean, where's the fun in that? ;-) Ever read any Douglas Adams? Hitchhiker's Guide books are full of nuggets of hilarious shout-outs to atheists.
LOL, so the circle says you have all the knowledge of man with anthropology, geology, math, science, language, theology, how to fix a sink, how to grow a garden, how to do a load of laundry well you tell me what one book do you own contain all that information. LOL. If that's you case than I want to see your book that contains all that knowledge. LOL
@jjr505 really brah tell dem they are flawed in their own logic, i don't like atheist talking to much cuz i feel i am leading them to sin, cuz they use their own words to condemn themselves, what book contains all knowldege like the bible it self said it contained all knowledge.
Pride is at the center of all this, pride and fear, It is better not to believe in God they are afraid of there selves i never was atheist but i ran to Buddhism cuz I was afraid of the mirror of Christ
none of what she has to say makes me doubt even one bit, and she sounds to me like she has an inner struggle with God herself. She talks like someone whos in denial.
This argument is invalid. The Scriptures' purpose is not to show you how to fix your dish washer, lady. It has a specific theme of salvation-history aiming to show you the life of Jesus Christ, to whom all the law, prophets, the wirings of wisdom, the Gospel and the apostolic epistles point to. And Christ, being God, knows all the knowledge in your nice circle there, yet that is not His purpose, to make us knowledgeable. Rather through the knowledge of Christ God brings people to salvation.
The old testament is ESSENTIAL to the new. Moses is mentioned frequently in the new testament. The prophecies by which Christ is determined to be the Messiah are all in the old testament. Christ said that he has not come to change the old laws which were old testament. The 10 Commandments are old testament.
What about astrology there is a good bit of that in there put that in your circle and and biology got some of that. I could go on but the real problem I have with this story this the person you pick to push your views on. A young you say open mind a say weak minded go pick on someone your own size you DA bully
Want to read a good book? Blue like jazz and...maybe... mere Christianity. I challenge you to read those books and for the questions you have about the guy who picked up sticks and all that. Ask a preacher or another person with huge amounts of Biblical knowledge not your nephew who just turned into a Christian and probably never got into the new testament. By the way God was harsher back then because He was establishing His people. Almost Everything changes when Jesus comes into the picture.
There's math, languages, and many other forms of knowledge in the Bible. Why would God teach me how to fix a sink or change an air filter? Is that going to save my life? hahaha. Is the Bible a message tot he people or an encyclopedia. You obviously didn't ask this to a bright Christian.
The Bible was never intended to teach a person how to change a filter in an air conditioner or tell someone how to do laundry, LOL. The Bible merely is God's book to mankind to show them the way to salvation. Sorry but Junes video is much more rational.
@BT3701 "The Bible merely is God's book to mankind to show them the way to salvation."
It's more likely that the bible was a book from Bronze Age mankind to show god how he should behave to be a god so he could guarantee his salvation, but fortunately it’s quite likely he is going to be punished with eternal apathy for his sins of not making himself credible.
@BT3701 "God's book" was written by numerous different men, and translated, incorrectly in many cases, into hundreds of different languages and versions over the course of thousands of years. Right on, man, represent.
Why do you atheist go straight to the Old testament to disprove CHRIST-ianity? I don't get it. CHRIST CAME TO PERFECT THE LAW. The mosiac law was just to see if people can be obedient to God. God telling Abraham to sacrifice his son, was only to show 2 things 1) Does Abraham fully trust God 2) if Abraham obedient to God, despite God asking him to do an morally wrong thing? God wasn't really going to kill Isaac. God was the one that Gave Abram a child when sarah was 90yrs old. It was a test
God gave Abraham a test, to see if he was blindly complacent, and couldn't stand on his own, when he lacked the heart and brain to forge a path worth treading. If my creator told ME to murder my child, my faith would fall by the wayside, and I would dispose of my loyalty. This is a manipulative trick; not a test of faith. You don't offer your teenager cocaine, and when they take it, tell them "Good for you; you obeyed me" when they should know that cocaine is a harmful substance, from the start.
@TwentyYearDenial Well said. It's funny how God demands us to be moral...unless he tells us not to be. When we're immoral on our own, it's straight to Hellfire for us. But if he says it's ok first, all of the blessings he could offer are showered down on us.
I would also strongly recommend that anyone interested, examine a very powerful analysis of Mr. Harris' secularist perspective & subjectivism by Jackson Lears. The article is called, "The same old new atheism" . It can be read in the May 2011 issue of the Nation Magazine.
@iwmfwo2010 Jesus said he came to fulfill the law, and NOT to condemn it. Therefore, Jesus standing for the law makes his personal beliefs (and therefore his statements about himself) fallible. Pretty simple, really.
Also, what was the point of Jesus' coming to Earth and dying for the sins of humanity if the Old Testament's account of the law isn't true or just? The New Testament is based to a large extent on the Old. It has no relevance otherwise.
@ScienceSupporter Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
@ScienceSupporter I just viewed your channel and the science symphony - the poetry of reality video is awsome. Dont forget God is mysterious. And as Creator He has the Ability to bend the laws of physics. you must be willing to accept him in your heart. Until Then you will NEVER find the SCIENTIFIC evidence your seeking.
I also think this hag that posted the video is as dishonest as they come. They equates knowing to believing, and agnosticism to atheism and tries to sell that off as the rational conclusion. It's dogma, she takes her PREFERRED view and imposes it as the only conclusion based. False dichotomy at its best. What a tool.
@ScienceSupporter Well Im surprised to hear those words coming from a youtube user who calls himself a science supporter....God is the creator of science. Even "scientist" know you cannot create something from nothing. Of course the "enemy" doesnt want you to know the truth because the enemy hates you. Your beliefs teach NO love No hope and No faith. Im scared to see your "reality" without God. Im praying for you my brother
Sadly, this entire clip was just this women taking a stab at June Hunt. Jesus Christ taught us forgiveness, faith, hope and love. This women is afraid to grasp any of those. I pray she will come to know Jesus Christ and let go and give to God whatever it is that has her shackled from the truth.
You're just like the devil! The devil never creates but always imitate . Let's wait for evolution to develop in your life to see if you can grow some personality .
Lol, I LOVE when ignorant atheists quote the Old Testament. We NO LONGER LIVE BY THE LAW OF THE OLD TESTAMENT. We Live by Grace! We only use the Old testament for knowledge. btw, You probably had to do a google search to find those verses, Lol.
@Kubow13 since jesus didn't denounce the old testament ,and specifically told that everything in the old testament stands and that he supports it , citing old testament scriptures is a very valid argument .
so , i think you should analyse who is ignorant and why old testament is a crucial point to disbelieving in the bible . coz right now all you're doing is picking and choosing from the bible , choosing whichever is "good" from the bible , and throwing everything thats "bad" saying its old.
@ryangt47 The Bible does not specifically condemn the practice of slavery. It gives instructions on how slaves should be treated (Deuteronomy 15:12-15; Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 4:1), but does not outlaw slavery altogether. Many see this as the Bible condoning all forms of slavery. What many fail to understand is that slavery in biblical times was very different from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many parts of the world.
@ryangt47 The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on race. People were not enslaved because of their nationality or the color of their skin. In Bible times, slavery was more a matter of social status. People sold themselves as slaves when they could not pay their debts or provide for their families. In New Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were slaves of someone else.
@Kubow13 There are 2 types of slavery in the bible, slavery for other jews and slavery for the rest. However you translate/interpret this, the bible clearly allows physical punishment and control of those enslaved. The question is why is the bible not (morally) better than the time it was written instead of just conforming to the norms of the time. I would suggest it is because it was written by men of that time who knew no better, do you think it points to a divine influence?
@Kubow13 Leviticus 25 v44-46, exodus21 v2-11 and v20-21, Ephesians 6 v5, timothy6 v1-2, luke12 47-48 all condone slavery and demonstrate how jewish slaves should be treated differently, also that slaves could be beaten. :o)

@razorpayne13 Actually, she doesn't use the Bible to disprove "God", the Bible does a good enough job of that without her.

@throwdini23 This is a fact. Having kn owledge ABOUT God is one thing. Everyone in America just about has that. KNOWING the living God is quite another. The Holy Spirit is in every fiber of your being, and isn't something that can be argued or debated out of you. Total illogical fallacy."For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you'll be like God, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:5) Same enemy, same lies.
chriswooten7 1 month ago

Velox415 1 month ago
@Velox415 No, the God's' was in that form because I extend courtesy for ignorance in pondering the impossibility of there being more than one God. I have proof inside, it's proof for me, and He is known as the Holy Spirit. Science, mathematics, cosmology, etc. are wonderful to me, but ultimately and miserably fail when viewed as the only way to discover truth. If you really absorbed something besides the negative claims that allow you this false self-justification, you would see miracles.

(Matth. 25)

@Velox415 When Harry Potter is author of the most powerful, life-changing message with the #1 bestselling book for hundreds of years running, derived from over 5600 historical documents with 99.9% inerrancy, so profoundly elegant that no one saw the need to change it over 2000 years, let me know.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 best selling book? That is not prove able, and it's very unlikely. Realize that there's more than just the bible that's been printed for a long time — take for example the Qur'an. Also realize that most bibles are given out for free — only those who go against Christianity's principles would actually sell a book of their religious teachings, even if it's just at-cost.
MsHojat 1 month ago
@MsHojat There are statistics every year from book publishers. I have doubts that if it were claimed that Darwin's Origin of Species were claimed to be the bestseller, there would be such skepticism. The 99% inerrant does not interchange with the word infallible, as it seems is the case here. Inerrant means that all the ancient documents, including the dead sea scrolls are that closely accurate in text from one to another. Your point adds the 'freebies' uncounted, along with the sales making #1.
chriswooten7 1 month ago

It's a gift of God.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 So, shoot me some incongruities, and we'll see if we can shed some light on them. Later.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 there's no physical act of god there. The effect which occured (and occurs to many people), while certainly effective, is not something limited to Christianity or even the concept of a god. The mind is given hope, giving it more confidence and ambition. The problem with Christianity is it also spreads a lot of improper and unproven statements along with some of the benefits if can give. There are better ways to improve someone than getting the to be Christian.
MsHojat 1 month ago

It doesn't have to be that way, as long as you still have breath of life.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 It's being realistic&skeptical. Unless you can prove that it occurred to you, or could occur to others with evidence then there's no reason to believe it.
If I was to believe all claims made, I would be a believer in conspiracy theories, human abductions by ETs, Mystical powers of crystals, astrology, and a whole lot of other bull crap. I don't care if you think it's right — it doesn't mean it's right. There's no evidence to prove it right, so it's more likely wrong.
MsHojat 1 month ago
@MsHojat I have absolutely no time or obligation to "prove" anything to a scoffing, carnal-minded skeptic. Here's the food, spit it out or chew it. Don't let that pride deem yourself as more important than you should. His world's not all about you.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 I'm not saying you are obligated to. I am saying that you should not be making extraordinary claims without the extraordinary evidence to back it up. You have the right to believe whatever you want, but it doesn't make your beliefs right. You can believe whatever, but you should not make claims about it being real to anyone else without backing it up with substantial support. I don't know what you mean by pride — I never said anything W.R.T. this being about me.
MsHojat 1 month ago
@MsHojat It's just odd that you ask for proof on here. What do you want me to do, really? How would that be possible? I simply have shared the pragmatic test of experience with you. The evidence is up there, as I was a hopeless addict, and no, people don't just wake up one day and turn from all those habits at once. If they had that kind of strength, they wouldn't be where they are to begin with. It's not like you say, "I'm just gonna quit." Not with multiple physically addictive substances.
chriswooten7 1 month ago

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.(Romans 1:20-23) Science will always discover more and more about how the universe works, and also willingly keep God anonymous as the author of it all. Doesn't it seem like yesterday you were a child? Life is short, don't waste it, and miss the whole point of your life. No effect is without cause.

MsHojat 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 You are truly ignorant, even of your own holy book. First, J.K. Rowling is the author, not Harry Potter; and indeed the books hit the #1 selling spot. And the bible is 99.9% inerrant and unchanged for 2000 years? That literally made me lol irl. The bible contains multiple errors; practically all of Genesis for example. Animals evolved, the moon is a reflector not a light, bats are not birds, there was no global flood, etc. The bible even contradicts itself at times.
Velox415 1 month ago
@Velox415 You see, here's the problem. You're using modern discoveries and 'terms' to proclaim His word fallible. Look, if you created bats, and wanted to classify them as birds because they fly, you have that right. Just like Jonah's fish was so called because it swims, but today would likely be known as a whale. Standing on earth, the moon GIVES light, doesn't it light the earth at night? He always spoke in a language even the simple could understand, or He wouldn't be fair. Modern arrogance.
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 So it was more important for animal-sacrificing tribesman to understand every single word, than it was for future generations to understand that this book was divinely inspired by getting the facts straight and including things no other human knew at the time? Your god doesn't seem to have much foresight. So, are bats birds to you, even though bats lack feathers and are clearly mammals? And how hard would it be to describe the moon like a dull metal shield reflects sunlight?
Velox415 4 weeks ago
@Velox415 You want proof God shared things no human being knew in OT times? Look in Leviticus 13:47-59, God supplied His people with unknown info about the dangers of mold and mildew, as He was protecting them. It took science thousands of years to realize microbial elements in theory, and that they were harmful to us. That alone speaks wisdom and knowledge, unless someone is just dead set on denial and ignorance. Also, His word assumes you have hindsight, to have compassion for past man's mind
chriswooten7 4 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 Also, women noticed clothes came cleaner when washed in the river close to the sacrificial alter. The priest's offerings were oils and animals. The first soaps were made of animal fats and ashes. Just a coincidence that the same acts of cleansing our sins also cleaned our clothes?
chriswooten7 4 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 There are also multiple fulfilled prophesies in the Bible as well, where there is absolutely no way the future events could have been controlled or manipulated. Many too many to write off as coincidence.
chriswooten7 4 weeks ago
@Velox415 God is tactful, purposeful, and always has manifold accomplishments from a seemingly single act. If you possessed all the knowledge in the universe, wouldn't you have no choice but to keep much limited man on a need-to-know basis about many things? The moon served the purpose of giving light to the earth at night. That's what was important to Him. The reflection part was irrelevant. Look at how you doubt Him because of modern 'knowledge' of man. He knew precisely what He was doing.
chriswooten7 4 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 Mirrors also appear to give light, does that make them a light source? Btw, bats not being birds is in no way a "modern" discovery, and it would be quite impossible to survive in a whale's stomach like that. It's not a problem with modern "terms" it's the fact the the bible is simply *wrong* about so much.
Velox415 4 weeks ago
@Velox415 I have experienced the power of God to show to me, and reveal things to me that I could not possibly find out on my own searching. Your presupposition of Jonah's account is based on your foundational lack of belief that God is who He says He is. Knowing Him, I know that keeping Jonah alive was not a problem. The physical world, and laws of the universe we are subject to don't apply to Him. He laid them down, and does not answer to His own creation. Don't reduce Him to your capacities.
chriswooten7 4 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 Also, the bible has NOT come down unchanged. In fact, in early christianity there was a lot of in-fighting over which books would make up the NT. Many rejected Revelations and thought of it as apostate, even satanic! The church pretty much persecuted any that disagreed, such as the Gnostics, and tried to wipe out records that they didn't agree with. The NT today has had many additions, eg, the story of Jesus and the adulteress was not in the earlier manuscripts; it added later.
Velox415 1 month ago
@Velox415 *it was* added later. @$%#@ ran out of character space and trying to type too fast. Anyways, Mark 16:9–20, Luke 22:43-44, and other passages are often called into question as well. Keep in mind too, it's very easy for someone to write something and then claim it to be divinely inspired, eg scientology books written by a sci-fi author, and Joesph Smith himself was a known charlatan.
Velox415 1 month ago

Velox415 4 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 In fact, not even all the books here today are accepted. Right off the bat Jews and Muslims reject the NT. And there are varying collections of other books, eg the Book of Enoch is canon to a couple of churches and the Mormons have their own books.
Velox415 4 weeks ago
@Velox415 Jesus deconstructed the ideas that man's works, actions, knowledge of the law was sufficient to justify him as righteous. Look at other 'religions,' and you'll see that the central theme says "do this, do that." Christ said as He drew His last breath; "It is finished." That means that we're justified by simply accepting what He did, which was absorb the Father's wrath for our shortcomings and iniquities. Would you have problems telling a surgeon you accept him removing a brain tumor?
chriswooten7 3 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 I just witnessed to a young guy who is living with some Mormons today, and took him to our non-denominational, full Bible-believing church where the Holy Spirit's power leads the church, not a fabrication of man. He stated an obvious recognition of power, as opposed to falling asleep in the Mormon church. In a 1-hour study, I did a printout of scriptures that condemn the Mormon doctrine, and could have gone on for hours with it easily. No mistaking when the power is His, not ours.
chriswooten7 3 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 There are lots of subtle poisonous doctrines today, as we are told it would be: Mark 13:22..."For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible." It's really quite simple, though. Examine closely, and you'll see if salvation is dependent upon what you do, or what Christ did. This is the dividing line. Salvation is a gift of God, and not by man. Also watch who any 'glory' goes to; man or God.
chriswooten7 3 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 2 Timothy 4:3..."For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."
chriswooten7 3 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 Passages that include human and animal sacrifice, a global flood, or a global 7 year famine for no reason I would hardly deem eloquent. Lastly, being old means nothing. Homer's "Iliad," and the "Epic of Gilgamesh" (predating the NT) are also old works of literature, but that doesn't mean everything in them is true.

MrEmeraldfusion 2 months ago
@MrEmeraldfusion If you want an example that Christianity doesn't condone FORCED slavery, just look at the fact that people who know they have rights given by God don't make good slaves. They'll throw tea in the ocean! Look at the stories about the slave drivers in our country beating the slaves for singing "Amazing Grace," or "I'll Fly Away."
They were full of hatred. The Holy Spirit's presence makes people grateful, not hateful, and creates gratitude, not attitude.
chriswooten7 3 weeks ago
@chriswooten7 Please stop using a cop out like you did belittling the fact of what is WRITTEN on the page. Christians do that all the time. It's annoying. People being NICE to slaves is SO noble, they still OWN another human being. That is really screwed up, perverted, and backwards and I pity you for saying something so reprehensible. And you wonder why people denounce Christianity, take a look in the mirror and read the black letters in the Bible, not the white between them.
FriendofDaishonin 6 days ago
@chriswooten7 I say those things because I hope you would come to your senses instead of believing that owning another human being is A-ok as the Bible thinks it is A-ok. I say that to shame you because the world is made worse by human trafficking. I don't think you honestly believe that slavery is ok, but supporting a book like the Bible that condones human trafficking is just as evil as Charles Manson or Hitler.
FriendofDaishonin 6 days ago
@1:35-The Bible isn't intended to educate on all subjects in the universe rather give an understanding of God and attaining and maintaining a relationship with him. Jesus further says that all of the crazy Old Testament laws should be obeyed (Matthew 5:18-19)...
apeek7 3 months ago
I imagine you have as one of your morals that it is WRONG for one human being to own another human being. Am I right? Then the question I have for you is... where did you get this moral value? Don’t say the Bible because the Bible teaches how to buy and own slaves (Leviticus 25:44-46). It says in the New Testament that slaves are to obey their masters (Ephesians 6:5, 1 Timothy 6:1). There is not one word condemning slavery in the Bible. Not one word- NOT ONE...
apeek7 3 months ago
Here is another method... Most Christians believe that all morality comes from the Bible. In fact. they use that 'fact' to justify their religions necessary existence. But if you point out that they have morals - strong morals - that are either not supported by the Bible or in direct contradiction to the Bible - maybe it will make them think. The following are two you might use…

So your argument is that God must not exist because he has a record of doing things that YOU find offensive (like allowing people to work off debt by becoming slaves for a maximum of seven years and supplying justice to law breakers)? Pretty weak argument...
NeilKHess 3 months ago
Are you supposing that in order for the Bible to be true it should talk about every topic on the planet?...Or perhaps the Bible is a lens through which you can interpret every experience on Earth. If that is your argument coupled with a taxi cab fallacy of using scripture out of context then this is an insufficient proposal. You would more willingly believe in the impossibility that everything on this Earth came from a combination of chance+nothingness without any evidence. Think about it.
michaeldstender 3 months ago
I didn't see the video this was a reply to, so I don't know if it's just satirizing the original one or not, but I had a huge issue with this argument which IMO makes it pretty bad. Not knowing how great a god is wouldn't make a person an agnostic by what seemed to be her (bad) definition of it. Many many (probably the majority of) Christians are humble in that they don't say they know there's a god, but they just have FAITH that there's a god. There's a huge difference.

@MsHojat It's okay, she was definitely satirizing the original argument.

I know Him, and have seen my prayers answered in such profound, supernatural ways, there could absolutely be no denying it, I just look and think "Wow!"
chriswooten7 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 I said many Christians, not all Christians. I'm sure many Christians are deluded enough to believe with absolute certainty that the Christian god exists, but those are not the majority of Christians. Most will say that it' either very likely he exists, or say something like "my belief doesn't matter, it's faith that matters". What you said is interpretive, not the absolute meaning. Your interpretation of having faith is such, but not everyone's.
MsHojat 1 month ago
@chriswooten7 and personal revelation is not proof, at least to anyone but possibly yourself. You could have mental hallucinations, biased mind, delusions, and other things. Even if there is a god (or just think there is), how would/do you know it's the god of Christianity and not some other God of a different religion, even or one of no known religion?
Quite certainly it seems that god does not answer any number of prayers any more than by chance, so that certainly doesn't help.

Are you sure you know what you are talking about?

flawed logic.

It was a test
iwmfwo2010 6 months ago

It has no relevance otherwise.

so , i think you should analyse who is ignorant and why old testament is a crucial point to disbelieving in the bible . coz right now all you're doing is picking and choosing from the bible , choosing whichever is "good" from the bible , and throwing everything thats "bad" saying its old.
ryangt47 7 months ago
@ryangt47 The Bible does not specifically condemn the practice of slavery. It gives instructions on how slaves should be treated (Deuteronomy 15:12-15; Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 4:1), but does not outlaw slavery altogether. Many see this as the Bible condoning all forms of slavery. What many fail to understand is that slavery in biblical times was very different from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many parts of the world.
Kubow13 7 months ago
@ryangt47 The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on race. People were not enslaved because of their nationality or the color of their skin. In Bible times, slavery was more a matter of social status. People sold themselves as slaves when they could not pay their debts or provide for their families. In New Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were slaves of someone else.
Kubow13 7 months ago
@Kubow13 Some people actually chose to be slaves so as to have all their needs provided for by their masters
Kubow13 7 months ago
@Kubow13 There are 2 types of slavery in the bible, slavery for other jews and slavery for the rest. However you translate/interpret this, the bible clearly allows physical punishment and control of those enslaved. The question is why is the bible not (morally) better than the time it was written instead of just conforming to the norms of the time. I would suggest it is because it was written by men of that time who knew no better, do you think it points to a divine influence?
