It has an aluminum body and was probably made by the "Aluminum Musical Instrument Company" of Ann Arbor, Michigan about 75 years old. David recently bought a new set of strings for it, but it sounds so good with old strings, he is afraid to change them. It still has the same strings that were on it when he got it 30 years ago.
Sounds great, and it looks like everyone had lots of fun in the process. Plus, I'm loving the art etched on the guitars. Looks like it would be really intricate close up! Very cool.
That is a pretty sweet sounding resonator in that ole' Dobro...It looks freaking awesome too! It's good to see some good Arkansas folks having a time playing Bluegrass. Ya'll should cover some Jimmy Driftwood.
Yes, its an antique aluminum bass. The entire body is aluminum with a normal wooden neck. It has a great sound. It's pretty tough too, and doesn't seem to require any special treatment. David carries it in the back of his pickup truck. David prefers to not carry it in the rain, but I doubt it would hurt it.
That's my favorite guitar to play. Its from the Martin Custom Shop. An artist cut two stencils for me - one for the black paint & the other for the white paint. I sent the stencils to Martin, and they sprayed paint through them onto a OOO-M. I think they didn't mind trying this as an experiment, because they were contemplating making their own cowboy guitars. This was back in 1995. They have since made five different production Cowboy models, and I have at least one of each of them too.
Yep, these folks bring to us some great sounds. I've been listenin' to the crossroads vid too. Awesome band! Great instruments and vocals! Could listen to this for quite a spell.
didn't think of it, please...what's new, Everything can be made into bluegrass or punk. now, let's hear Micheal Jackson's Billy Jean, or Dark Side of the Moon in it's entirety, or anything else at all, it's really not a big far out to think of,figure out and play, lets have it.
Nice looking group, what kind of bass is that fella? Nice tone. You all sound good.
Thanks for the comments. "Dark Side Of The Moon?" Maybe so.
We like David's bass too. It is probably 75 years old. It has an aluminum body and might have been made by the "Aluminum Musical Instrument Company" of Ann Arbor, Michigan. I don't know what the original color was, but it had been refinished white.
Oh, I get it... Ol' bluegrass Funk#49. Can you do that? isn't there some musical state law against that or something?? I mean, has the music police been chasing you guys? Doesn't this throw some kinda kink in the musical fabric of the universe or something... I guess I'm jealous I didn't think of it... anyway... I LOVE IT!!
Hey ED, Thanks for the compliments. My brother and I know how to play "Man of Constant Sorrows." I'll bring up the idea to the rest of the group and see what they think.
..just a bit of constructive criticism. The chord progression is super weak, the change is boring, the lyrics are, well.. dumb. The only thing you had going was the indian chick..until the hand sign, (which is a dig at Natives, for those who didnt catch that)..I don't know..I don't care, but besides all that the music is cheap, and the gimmicks are lame.
no substance..it's people like you that will get the internet regulated. Tell ya what..go check your Myspace, I think you have a hot chick that wants to be friends waiting ..loser
Yes, Lori Lee is a wonderful singer. Lori and John (her Dad) sounded like angels when they were singing harmony for this song. You would be amazed if you could hear only their parts without the rest of the music.
It was a lot of fun making this video and we are talking about doing another in the near future.
This makes my day every time I watch and listen! I've watched it many times and see something new each time - today it was when Steve switched from the cowboy guitar to the dobro for the Hot Solo! Just a lot of wholesome fun to enjoy and great musicianship too. Thanks.
That was SO much fun!!! You all sound great. Very nice instruments. You just can't go wrong with a bunch of black-hatted bad guys and a Native American corn shaker.
Awesome! Loved it. Not only is it a good perormance, but the costumes and instruments are fun to look at. Those are some killer instruments! Post more!
