  • I haven't been to a Pow Wow in a good long time. I should go it's in my heritage and part of my ancestory. I'm full blood Native from Pine Ridge, SD coincidentally. I haven't been back there in about 5 years. Oglala Lakota Pride runs deep in our culture. And anyone who is against us for whatever reason well that's their problem. We Natives are a proud people. Especially after all that we've endured.

  • HAN,HAN! NA Hecetu Welo!

  • ahhh omg my sister dancing @1:11<3!!!

  • I want to go to a pow wow :(

  • .....beautiful.

  • I must say, this makes me feel happy and proud to be living on the same continent. Beautiful. Thanks for being who you are.

  • 3 people disliked this....like this video if you dislike those dislikeing toolbags, even if you don't care for it much!

  • We are all one child of one spirit. Somehow we must make us all understand that one fact. All are one. Everything that exists in this world is a manifestation of the one spirit. How can it be otherwise? I look forward to the day that it will be so, but, I fear my end will preceed it. We need to try harder. Mitakuye Oyasin!

  • @yeshuahfullofit I totally agree with you! I have supported the Native Americans my long but short life of sixty years. I will continue that support until I die!

  • @santafemiket As have I for only 54 years. I have never attended the pow wow at Pine Ridge, though. When I lived in NC I would attend the pow wows at Cherokee, N. C. every year. I only get to go now when I can. They are a lot of fun. You get to see old friends and share a laugh.

  • I am a white man learning lakota, Taku wakhan!

  • To the people that dislike this video.....

    YOU SUCK!!!!!

  • @mazaska001 Luck has it only 3 jerks dont like this video! Peace

  • i love my people!!! MITAKUYE OYASIN...

  • As a descendant of European Christians, I deeply regret what they did to your people, your religion, and your culture. Because of their greed, selfishness, self-righteousness, and wickedness, you endured great injustice and pain. It warms my heart to see you preserving your identity and carrying on despite what you've been through. Bright blessings!

  • I am born and raised as a white, hearing these songs, seeing these dances I feel like I was an orphan in spirit. In gratitude for my parents and for the wideness of the world.

  • I am born and raised as a white, hearing these songs, seeing these dances I feel like I was an orphan sometimes. in gratitude for the wideness of the world

  • Hello. What happened to the Native American People so 200 years ago just fell over those who fled in your ancestral possession may be a month or two befors they left their homes and family here...under heawy losses and pressure .As sad as each ones story is, please do not forget that this is common to many people all over the the Worl and nowadays knowledge did not add a drop of wisdom to our rulers.

  • As far as I'm allowed, if you are an offspring of the Native American Nation, please bSo please do not walk in the uggly path of overbidding on ignorance and foolishness. using dirty language for this just gas in the engine of the Evil. Look around and see what hatred produces.

  • Be proud of your origin and try to catch back as most as possible knowledge and traditions in order to be able to teach your own children Your Language first. Theach then universal values such as honesty and sane Pride.

  • Get rid of any other trendy junk. Had the opportunitity to travel and meet many different people on this planet and there was no one not even in recent history who is spared from the pains of war or genocide. It is true that it mainly goes along military technology belonging to the "white man" those last 500 years. ..

  • At the other hand you would not believe how much the lowest connotation to Native American is valued over here. Some even learning Native Language and so on....Pure white imitating POW WOW's.... Living weeks or months way out in teepees frobidding any electric device...you would be treated like Gods by.....the great gran sons of those responsible for you Evil...

  • Write this in the Chapter of the conscience awareness/awakness that we went to far.....and should all together return to valuable basics and nature. Either Red, White, Yellow or Black Man .Please do not offend me because I'm white, belonging to a minority, and among those who believe that thet way of life of your ancestors was among the well balanced way of living ever known...whenever other ethnics deserve to be honored too....

  • I know the name of the father of my father starting from the year 1023 CE. Studying the family history I can say that I've been the first generation without War (butcheries) since at least 1000 years over here in N-E France. My forefathers had to suffer too. So we all are victims of human greed and Satans purpose of filling the earth with hatred. Choose your way....starting with your vocabulary. Walk with pride with native and universal values in mind ! Pardon for my broken English

  • What is that guy doing at scene 0:46? He's on a horse charging at something. What's that he's charging at?

  • @roosevelthighschool it is just a horse game he is charging at a hoop he has to collect it then race bag to the other end first one back wins or it can be done as a relay also.

  • I recently learned that there is a huge meth problem out there on the reservation. Is that for real?

  • i didnt Get raise at THAT res but i did grow up on The Menominee Reservation its beautiful im so lucky to be native america :D

  • i am from wanbli reservation

  • i will say tho that the white govt screwed the native peoples with the rez system. its terrible to have such conditions in such a prosperous nation. "we the people" - it says that on the $10 dollar bill - can fix it but it will take time and unity.

  • @stealthypea well said!

  • I am white but have been attending pow wows in Sisseton, SD since a boy. I love them! My fiance' is also native american. She is Sioux and mandan.

  • You lucky gun you lol

  • I consider myself to be privileged to attend many Pow Wow now that I live in North America. Please revive your culture for yourself and for the world. Love from Indian.

  • Lila waste!! **********

  • Trinivalist - what you might not know is that Native People from the Americas, like the Massachusett and the Wampanoag, were kidnapped and sold off as slaves throughout the world, just as African's. Many wound up in the Carribean, in places like Jamaica and Trinidad. So these Masquerade's probably trace back to those people and those times.

  • @CTWDirector Thanks for the tip much appreciated I assure you

  • mad me want to cry...beautiful voices

  • Man, I'd love to go to some pow wows out that way. I have only been to pow wows out here in California and Arizona. Next time I decided to quit my job I'm just going to travel all over the place so I can dance at a pow wow in every state. haha...are there pow wows in Hawaii and Alaska?

  • There are three annual Powwows in Hawaii, one on the first weekend of October, the week after that one in Kauai, and a 3-day Memorial day one in Hilo. As for Alaska i dunno, the Indigenous peoples there don't dance the way we dance.

  • lol, I don't think the indigenous peoples in Hawaii dance that way either. That's why I asked. haha...but I just talked to someone who came from one of those pow wows in Hawaii. Sounds like a good reason to make the trip out there to me. haha

  • @SaboCatGirl You don't get to hear the harder Northern drum style down here in Cali and arizona. Go up to Montana and the Dakota's to here the true Native sound.

  • I really enjoyed that vid. I've never been to a powwow but this vid seems to give a good view of them. Would love to go to one sometime and see it myself. I'd better get saving.

  • Get Frybread when your there...sooo goood

  • so, I'm watching this and i begin to shed tears. In Trinidad many years ago... the former Africans who were enslaved, as a masquerade they used to play Native American.. Caribe, Arawak, and i would guess tribes from the United States. it's still a very big masquerade in Trinidad's Carnival today. I say this to state the obvious. It's just amazing how closely related earth centered cultures are. Mojuba to all the native tribes.

  • this is a contest right? What are the criteria for winning... if it is indeed a contest?

  • Hi cousins and friends!

  • i try to learn lakota but it´s very hard and to learn it alone is very difficult! I come from germany so it´s very hard to find somebody wich i can learn it together-.-! but anyway i try my best;)

you should never forget who you are!:)

  • I'm full blood Lakota Sioux. Thank You.

  • Comment removed

  • Well no disrespect risingsun08107 but I'm tired of being Native. I wish to God I was a rich white kid and not a poor Native. Thank You.

  • fuck rich white kids, they don't appreciate anything. you dont wanna be like them do you? unless you're married with kids, there is always a way out of being poor. it just takes a lot of hard work. I'm poor white kid and I'm working my way out of it.

  • Is what I mean is that I just don't like the drinking that goes on on the reservation and the fighting and the violence. My mom drinks and my dad doesn't. I always go to my dad's house and not my mom's. They are divorced. Thank You, risingsun08107.

  • i know about it man. i know how you feel. you can change it by getting educated and bringing that education back to the rez to improve life there. being full blood, you could get a shit load of financial aid and go to school practically for free.

  • I live among the whites. Truth be told I'd rather be a rich Native. Anytime! Naive American have more appreciation for nature and others.

  • @risingsun08107 HEY FUCK U I LOVE WHITE PPL!

  • @Tahnitemare

  • You should be damn proud!

Can you or any other recommend i. e. a place where a pow wow or any other native american celebration take place more regularly. I mean be visited by tourists. Or any place where I can meet native american culture. I´m from Sweden and I´m planning to visit the US in next year or in the following year. South Dakota?, North Dakota?, Minnesota? or any other state. I´m trying to get some more knowledge about this. No journey to America without meeting your culture...

this is in south dakota right?

  • Yes, at Pine Ridge Reservation.

  • dont know much about indian culture but im very interested what exactly is the purpose of a pow wow can someone plz explain

  • Pow Wows are social events. They are basically a place where Indian/First Nation people can come together and party NDN style.

  • Beautifull!

    Anpetu waste yuh po!

    piamaya

  • it's

    "pilamaya"

  • hi, Thanks for let me know, I saw I wrote it wrong, just learning!!

  • Fuck neechi's!

  • i was thinkin of Russels Republic!...and if it actually becomes reality, like with a border and all, aside from the decent folks who would show up from all over, you realize that every white trash loser in the county will also show up with a sob story lookin for a free deal, and Republic protection!! most would be runnin from cops no doubt! so make the border leak proof!!

  • well but they keep on saying "you´re free to be responsible," and "you can come if you´re self-suffiecient and can take care of yourself."

Don´t think SO many today can really grasp what that means and even less can take responsibility for themselves. This is gonna be a totally different lifestyle, so I think only fitting folks stay in the end.

  • Very good comment FFS. You hit the nail on the head. Few in todays world could be anywhere near self sufficient

  • hey im lakota too i miss the rez my dad is chris whiting he lives there but im with my mom in va that would be cool if someone knew him

  • the Mexican president stated that OUR native american land is theirs!!!! The mexican president wants more illegal mexicans to come here and NOT pay taxes....taxes which goes to our native american funding, education, and healthcare. Apprently the Mexican government wants to take away our lively hood....welost our land before...lets not let it happen agian. Say NO to illegal imigration. Our Native American future is at stake.
