Spring Break 1974 i paid one dollar to go to Armadillo World to see this Bruce guy all the Austin buddies were raving about - wow..and you've got all these goodies to share i can't wait to see this! I'm one of those who loves to read notes and newsclips people leave in used books. I'm sold.
@xz632 , Rick Nelson sold millions of records and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as is his Lead guitarist James Burton. This is the type of music us white boys proudly listened to in the 50s and 60s. We listened to black R and B artists also such as Fats Domino, Little Richard, Jackie Wilson, Clyde McPhatter, Chuck Berry and others. I don't think you crossed the race line and listened to white artists, did you?
@akytilop If i'm not mistaken Fats Domino,Little Richard, and Chuck Berry are also the fathers of Rock n Roll and in the Rock N roll hall of fame with other R&B singers.
There's now a companion site for this series, with more video and excerpts from the upcoming book. See it now for video and text on "Discovering Springsteen." The link is in the "more info" section in the upper right on this page.

can't wait for the series greg. sounds great. used to read crawdaddy all the time and bought that crawdaddy with the bruce and band go to sing sing story back then (still have it somehwere) as i was already a fan. i might be one of about 1000 people who actually bought his first single too. i've always wanted to know if you took any pictures of this gig?
Thanks, we certainly didn't take pictures and I have never seen any--and since we were only press people there I don't think there could have been any, unless in Sing Sing archives. No cell phones!
damn...was hoping for a shot somewhere of the inmate who got onstage with clarence and played the sax. thanks for the quick response. now to spread the word about your series.
Hope you and everyone out there is havin' a ROCKIN' LITTLE CHRISTMAS with those you love (and maybe just like.....oh,ok, be a hater....look, she just knocked over thr tree for the SECOND time this morning.....let's just GO HOME!)while lookin' forward to a MUCH better NEW YEAR.......KEEP ON CHOOGLIN" !!!!!
I interviewed Zappa during the Billy The Mountain tour. He was out of sorts and took frequent slugs from a huge bottle of Milk of Magnesia. Flo and Eddie were taking frequent slugs from a huge bottle of Jim Beam. The latter were arrested after the show on obscenity charges. (They undid their belts, dropped to their knees and waggled the ends suggestively in the faces of the girls in the front row.) Good fun was had by all!
Thanks for comment. Last time I saw Frank it was at press party at Greenwich VIllage eatery -- for his "Sheik Yerbooty" album. He arrived with...a camel.
Hey everyone: When I first put up video a few days ago I forgot to add any reminders to Subscribe. Now I've done that but if you haven't subscribed--please do so! Thanks.
Thank for query. Frank Zappa was cool and surprisingly "nice" and "normal" as he treated me to a room service lunch...If anyone has ANY other questions raised by the video or anything else I will try respond. -- Greg Mitchell

Greg Mitchell at E&P wrote some of the best editorials on the excesses of George Bush and Republicanism. Listen to whatever he says.
