omg read your halo books. during the fall of reach, only few spartans survived the battle, and ended up downing to 1 last one. because 6 and 5 gave their lives to ensure that cortana ( the glowing thingy ) got aboard the space ship ( forgot the name ) and fled back to earth. people say you can see master cheif ( the very last spartan ) on the pelican 6 drops cortana off on. cheif is a regular spartan, he's just lucky as hell. cortana says this in the very beggining of halo 3. But then again Halo: Reach (the game) messed up the book storyline, so nothing is counted now.
