  • hey man i m iproblem.....my mxl 990 doestn work......i have the xenyx2222fx mixer and this microphone,,,,,,,,actually i dont have idea how to work it......please helpme.

  • Is it good for music recording

  • would it be ideal for acoustic guitar recording?

  • now i was just wonderin i have a presonus usb audio box,and i just bought this mic,the usb audio box has 48 volt power source but does it need to be phatom power?

  • One Question For anyone Out there Can you Hook The Mxl 990 Condenser Mic up to An M-audio Avid Fast track interface And Work? Im running On Windows 7 pc

  • could it hook up to an gutair amp or something like that

  • does it come with the cable you need to plug into your computer?

  • @YogiNotTheBearTV No. You'll need an XLR cable and an audio interface. Audio interfaces usually cost $150+, but you can get the Blue Icicle for about $40, which connects the mic to your computer but sacrifices many basic features. As for an XLR cable, they're usually about $15.

  • dats da same keyboard i got thumbs up if u got it to

  • does this need phantom power ?

  • @BaDaZZZZ516 yessssss

  • hey, im a youtube rapper and i have a crappy mic... i use audacity and i want to get this mic off of musicans friend the exact one i want is the MXL 990 USB Powered Condenser Microphone would it work okay with tht. cuz i dnt have a mixer all i have is a laptop audacity(i mix and render on audaicty) but would it work fine

  • EVERYTHING IN YOUR VIDEO IS AVAILABLE TOGETHER AT MUSICIANSFRIEND for $79! I WAS SO HAPPY TO GET THAT DEAL!!

  • Should I get the USB one or the XLR one?

  • besides a mixer, where can i get the phantom power?

  • $79 I was just about to get it on musician's friend. Do you know the best place I can go to get it for the best price??

  • but does the microphone comes with cables because if not you can't use it. it would be useless

  • but does the microphone comes with a cable??

Because if not yuo can't use it.

  • i was wondering but what if your mxl 990 mic starts making buzzing noises? does it mean that it's broken or is it just the computer? like every time i sing loud or high it seems like the mic can't take it....it didn't do this at the beginning so i don't know what to do. D: please reply back, thank you!

  • @SumikaLovesMusic your over modin tune dow your amp out put

  • @SumikaLovesMusic try gettng a pop filter there like $20 or less

  • @FalconWeed haha yeah i have them already but it just keeps making the buzzing noises :\ well its kinda getting better nowww~ anywayss, thank you guyss! :D

  • @SumikaLovesMusic ditto the other person that responded. when you're recording its always better to record with your levels lower than be redlining. You can beef up the sound afterwards when you're mixing or mastering.

  • Do you need to use a shock mount for podcasting and voice-over work?

  • so i cant plug this right in to my computer?

  • Can da 990 work wit da program cool edit pro & is it a USB mic

  • @CalisRemedy There is a MXL 990 USB mic but it will cost a bit more and yes it will work with any recording program, the MXL 990 on the video uses the XLR cable to connect to the preamp in order for it to work.

  • which one is good for vocal recording

    Shure SM58 or MXL990?

pliz reply im settin up a cheap home studio

n i dunno anythin bout mics...

  • @MrJevio i love my 990

  • @MrJevio The MXL 990 is good for recording in the studio. The SM58 is good for Live performances. I have a Shure Beta 58A for live and I'm gonna buy this one (MXL 990) for in the studio.

  • @MrJevio I've used both Sure SM58 and MXL 990 microphones for home studio recording.

    Get the MXL 990. lol

  • @MrJevio If you havent already decided, its worth noting that the mxl990 is a condenser, and the sm58 is a dynamic. In my opinion the 990 is a better by for a recording studio, the sm58 for a live show :)

  • @MrJevio the SM58 is a dynamic microphone, it's pretty good and takes abuse pretty well (seriously, students in school drop it every now and then and dent it but it still works) not so much for capturing high frequencies quite as well as a condenser mic but I think you can EQ the shit out of it. the MXL 990 is a condenser mic, has a richer upper mid and high frequencies. Depends on your use, but the sm58 is more versatile and the 990 is better for clear crisp vocals.

  • @chavvahillian2009 all you would need is about 2 xlr cables and and usb interface

i would prefer the mbox 2mini

  • Just got one from Musicians friend 59.99

  • hey guys i needs help please cause i buy a mic MXL 900 but when i plug in into my computer it doesn't work i don''t know what to do so please let me know email me at lilmoneyp@hotmail.com or write me on my page please guys .

  • @LILMONEYP100 The mic need 48 volts of phantom power to work the mic.

  • WTF??? $69?? I saw it on Amazon for $200....

  • @CelebBox look on musicians friend.

  • @CelebBox i got it from musicansfriends for 69.99

  • I just ordered one of these, will my original mic cable (xlr 1/4 in) work or is this a USB cable mic?

  • Can You Just Use A USB To Connect It To A PC?

  • MXL 990 or Behringer B2 Pro? Wich is the best?

For homerecording of voice, guitar and drums that is

  • how much are those, 300, 500, cause i want a proish mic, not to expensive, but good for recording music to, or what should i record to, then process to computer, something thats not to hard to process

  • Hi there, I am getting the MXL 990 soon (shockmount & stand adapter included), but I dont know what I need on top of that to get it to work :(. I realise that 48V phantom power is needed, and I have 'Art Phantom I' ordered which is fine, but I need to know how to connect it.

Can someone please give me a list of what cables I need and how many of each I need? I would greatly appreciate it. :) Many thanks.

  • @Chavvahillian2009 2 xlr cables and a usb interface if your hooking it to a computer or a usb mixer

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC - Oh ok thankyou. But how do I know whether 'Art Phantom I' is a USB interface? It has the 2 XLR cable imput sockets. Does the one XLR need to connect to a USB port?

Is the FL Studio Mixer a USB mixer?

    Thanks much :)

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC

I'm also buying this mic very soon and I'm wondering - You say that you need 2 XLR cables? I thought you only need one to connect the mic to the audio interface and then the audio interface connects to the computer through usb? What is the other cable for?

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC I have a similar noobie inquiry I connected my MXL990 to my ART preamp with an XLR cable, but then i connected my preamp to my MAC with a 1/4 to 3.5mm jack into the comp. Should i NOT be using the 1/4 to 3.5mm? b/c it sounds like crap right now.

Sorry I just need to know what im doing wrong. Also it only plays back out of my left headphone =(

Or like you said above Do i need an XLR to USB from my amp to my MAC?

    Thank You

  • would probably like to hear how it sounds!

  • @eerereps well then type in mxl 990 review or test video lol

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC this is a review video.. lol

  • @DevilsRadioOFFICIAL yep....ignored

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC twat! what is the title of this video?

  • is the input xlr3 or 5?

  • @omfgitsatree 3 .....xlr cable

  • hey do you know where to get the cord with the usb to hookup to my compouter cause mines also came without a cord so yeah checkin where you get the cord at?

  • Does the shockmount fit 5/8 mic stand

  • is this good for recording a drum set?

  • I have the same keyboard

  • does it need a xlr male to female?

  • @OfficialVictorTV i think it's female!

  • Comment removed

  • does this hook up to a pre amp?

  • @KiddGuap yes it needs 48 volt phantom power to work

  • I just got one, but i cant get it to work with my mixer...

  • @FheTray1 does your mixer have phantom power?

  • I never really realized how much I actually knew about audio recording until I read all of the insanely retarded comments on this video. Wow.

  • is this just a USB microphone?

  • @NikkoMedrano nope its one you use with a xlr cable and mixer

  • where is the cord?

  • can u plz tell me what other accessories do i need to buy with this microphone? im gonna record my vocals to my pc so plz can u tell me how to hook it up. thanks!

  • Does that microphone connect to a XLR male or female?

  • even cheaper now! i got one for $49.. such a great mic! great review too man!

  • i got a behringer xenyx 802 mixer and the mic sounds shit :( any tip?

  • My friend does this with his mic. So would you be able to hook this up to a guitar distortion box, then into an amp, then record that with a different mic?

  • Will this work with my Alesis multimix 8?

  • there's no cable with it?

  • what does the shock mount do?

  • @WemSum shock mounts mount the mic to a mic stand... simple as that.

  • yea i want to know to if it would work on fl studio with an asio sound card thing im young and it will take to long to buy anything over 80 dollars anytime soon i just want to plug the usb in my computer and use it

  • what if you get a mxl 990 usb mic/ will you still need a shock mount

  • would the lightsnake XLR work?

  • I bought one from Amazon for $45.00 for everything, but only needing it for the shock mount for a Neumann TLM 103.,the mic will just be an added bonus.

  • hell yeah but why not buy a neumann shock mount ??? cool idea tho

  • The price tag for the neumann s/m is minimum $250 on sale as compared to $398.00 as List price. Pretty extreme, though I'm sure it 's very good.

  • @spottedliver - Shut up! Give me you bonus mic!!!!

  • can it work with my FL Studio...it does have a mixer in there btw

  • @musicislife51307 You need phantom power. So a software mixer won't work

  • no you have to hard wire it to a mixer and a usb sound card and the mixer must have 24+ phantom power on it to power the mic

  • @MRBIGGIEMAC WHICH MIXER DO U HAVE??? IM LOOKIN FOR A MIXER BUT A GOOD ONE, I WAS THINKN ABOUT GETTIN ALESIS USB MIXER, WUT DO U THINK IS A GOOD MIC?? AND I ORDERED THAT MIC TODAY :D

  • @musicislife51307 i use Fl i know how to get it to work. lol just plug it in. go to your mixer then chose input thats it? otherwise something is really wrong with your set up or some shit cause ive been using fl for over 4 years now.

  • @musicislife51307 Im using a SM to record my acoustic. Yeah...it does work with the FL Studio. I think you already have ASIO drivers because FL wont let your record otherwise. I use the Tape Out of my mixer into the Line In of my PCs soundcard. And yes...condenser microphones need phantom power.

  • How would you get it to work to record to a laptop? I have phantom power on my PA, but it doesnt work, and I have two of them. please respond. -Brad

  • im interested in getting this but i have no idea what a phantom power is and such. could you please tell me which model phantom or whatever fits this and i wanna record with laptop or put it on laptop so what do i plug and where etc. thank you!

  • @shoppinglegends its a seperate power source for the mic..its basicly its battery...mixers and preamps have them built in but you can also buy a standalone phantom power supply

  • would you need to buy a speaker then? cos where does the sound come out from?

  • Would this work well in a Mobile DJ application?

  • you lean like a laptop with usb sound casrd thy setup

  • Actually a live performance application. I'm an MC and would be announcing in a ballroom live. Would this work nice for that?

Thanks and a great review you did!

  • @JimHornEntertainment its great for voice and recording and amp recording apps

  • thanks for the good review picking this one cause of this video

  • if you listen to any of the audio on my videos you will hear the mxl 990 in use thats what i use for audio

  • hey! great video!!! Can I use it for amp recording??? (guitar)

  • The 990 is awesome for vocal or amp micing

  • Thank you for this review, a lot better than the others on here. I was considering a nice condenser mic for my radio show, wasn't sure what to get and I'm on a budget. I think I'll finally go for this one.

As far as popping and stuff, what kind of pop filter would you recommend? and would you recommend that you NEED a pop filter for it? Will it filter out SOME of the p's without one?

    Thanks in advance.

  • um you can use any pop filter on this mic i but the nady shock mount filter and did a lil moding to it to get it to work its is like 25 bucks or so and your gonna pay 18 for a good filter anyway so check them out and check out my video ont he nady on the mod i did

  • Thanks for this review. You can now get this mic along with an MXL 991 for only 79 bucks together.

  • cool ty for the info for everyone !!! the mic it self is now 69.00 on musician friend but yes you can get the 2 pack if you need it

  • I can't say Thank you Enough.....Man....Thanks Alot. this review Helped me alot with the Purchase of my New microphone

  • GREAT!!! i hope you enjoy your mic i knwo i love mine hit me with some tunes or vids what ever your gonna use t for so i can hear it in action ... sub me and keep me filled in glad i could help thats what im here for

  • No doubt bro. i'll keep you Posted. You Just earned a new Subcriber

  • thank you sir ill do the same and come back and check out more videos i got alot of unboxings and reviews coming up

  • im not sure about this not coming with the little black clip

but if you buy the bundle that includes 990 and the 991, then it doesnt come with shockmount

  • This mic is the best kept secret in the audio world. Works on everything. Vocals, horns, guitar, piano, everything. Among the least expensive condenser mics on the market, you can pay many times more and not get better sound. Has to be one of the best bangs for the buck.

  • However, $69 is actually a bit high. I got mine for $49 new.

  • yeah you cen get them on sale its its price go's up and down but never over 69 bucks now

  • i agree i love this mic and now they at 49 bucks some places im gonna grab another lol
