Dont overcook the food for your dog-it destroys the beneficial vitamins and minerals. I soft boil an egg (enough heat to kill salmonella, etc.) so it is still runny and crush it up, shell and all. The shell is great for calcium.
DONT add spices or sauces to your dogs food. It should stay bland and without flavorings or additives (which to say most arent even good for people, too).
You can add some dog kibble to the whole food, but research your brands-some are really crappy fillers.
I've cooked for my dogs for 25 years. My vet bills have been for shots, spays and neuters and end of life procedures. That is it! I have three dogs now, aged 13 down to 1 year. Total out of pocket expenses has been about $200.00.
I cook brown rice, meat or fish, vegetables and a prepared calcium supplement. (they don't fart much either!)
More & more ppl are learning that healthy people food IS good for our dogs, espec. when you look at all the crap in commercially prepared foods. certainly some dogfoods are better than others. Dogs are individuals, just like humans and their systems react differently to different foods. (table scraps are bad for dogs when it's bad for us, like fried or fatty foods, etc.)
A couple of weeks ago,we had to take our Shih-Tzu Gizmo to the vet. We woke up one morning to find him very sick. First thing they asked was did we feed him any table scraps, which my husband did regularly, and I did occasionally. They told me that ALL little dogs should never eat anything but dog food, as it can cause pancreatitis, which can be fatal. Luckily, our little Gizmo recovered.Just thought I would share that with you.
I love that you love your dog enough to feed him right. I prepare grain free dog food and cat food for my 3. From what I've researched, grain is really bad for dogs and cats. I learn as I go, so I thought I'd share that. =) Bless ya!
Don't cook it. If you absolutely must (for flavor), just sear it very quickly, a few tosses, that's it. It's also hardly balanced, you might want to sprinkle a dog vitamin on top because if fed a steady diet of cooked chicken, rice, cooked eggs and broccoli, your dog will most likely be deficient in several vitamins.
you shouldnt cook it theres no point. a natural diet means raw chicken, beef, etc even eggs. dogs have a totally different digestive system to ours so 'human food' is no good. also dogs are carnivorous so need need for veg or friut.
in comparison to cats dogs are more omnivorous though, it might not be their food of choice - but they will eat things like bread and veggies.
A friend of mine's mother used to cook for her 4 dogs (a rotweiler, two german sheppards and one small dog lol) and it was like a stew with big meaty bones, potatoes and other stuff. I remember it because I thought it was our dinner that night LOL!
contary to believe... dog food is the best food for your animal.. FRYING yoru dog food is not a good healthy choice.. boil the chicken and rice and vegtables will be much better..
It does depend on the food, a high quality food such as Wellness, Canidae, or Innova are a lot healthier (and not full of bad ingredients) such as the other brands sold at commercial stores. It is best to research the brand before buying it. :)
The best brand is Verus if you can get it where you live. Wellness has been excellent for our dogs but Innova was not good for their stool consistency.
could you feed the dog already please...........
