Can you lock onto anything with the javelin or just laser painted targets?

@12mhunter Using the javelin normally, it can lock onto ground vehicles only. The laser painting allows it to lock onto air vehicles, and when a ground vehicle is painted, it makes the javelin fly up and then down on top of the vehicle. Also, when the javelin is fired at a laser painted target, it bypasses ir flares/smoke.

what about playing recon, you paint the target with soflam and get in a tank with guided shells? That works too, and you play solo

@omegaxtrigun They're definitely not using IR flares. And even so, I'm fairly sure that IR flares don't work on any guided missle, since it technically is using soflams to lock on, and not the vehicles heat signature.

@gametitan88 Well, sometimes they do miss even when fully locked. I'm pretty sure the rockets have a limited fuel supply, and if they fly too far away, it runs out and misses. Hell, sometimes it blows up near them but didn't actually hit them.

I use the CITV when in a tank, but i started noticing that I would lock on to something and when my gunner shot the guided shell it did nothing but literally tip the chopper over has anyone else noticed this or was I just experiencing some weird kind of glitch???

Soflams are excellent. You can target air or ground vehicles if somone soflam's a target for you.

One game I told the team I was on playing the map that has the giant golf ball water tower that I was marking targets and I saw 8 javelin missiles hitting the same targets :)

I always end up with useless people on my team. ( not to be an ass ). I use the soflam a lot but in most games I let the people in my squad know I'm using it. But the rather corner camp with the support class. It's free kills. I do what I can to win but there's way to many support classes now.

He is on the 360 not the PS3.... Though you are still right. On consoles this Jav + SOFLAM combo is rarely seen.

In fact the SOFLAM shows up on the map once it locks (or is spotted) to a vehicle. On console, vehicles destroy these quickly as no one uses the Javelin because not enough people use the SOFLAM. No one use SOFLAM because it is useless when it is on the map.

@TheAngelGabriel99 Air vehicles need to be tagged by a laser designator for the Javelin to lock onto. It only locks on ground targets without a laser designator, but more damage is dealt when ground targets are painted.

Dude, have you ever played on the console? The Soflam and Javalin combo is rarely if at all used. Do not compare console to PC.

For all of you whining about how "OP" it is, this combo is very very rare to see in console games. All of you that are complaining must be PC guys (despite how useful it is). The Jav+SOFLAM combo requires teamwork, so a 1 shot hit on copters is understandable. They nerfed stingers in the last patch, so taking a vehicle down with it, is now is luck

@wrath111377 Beating OP with OP doesn't work. Attack helos have no counter other than the ECM for this and ECM takes around 2-3 seconds to come into affect. When 10 people are running javelin and 10 people running SOFLAM the attack helo becomes unless. Dice intended stingers and other vehicles to counter them. Just hop into a Z-11 and take it out. Shit, use teamwork with other squadmates and tell them to run engie. The javelin should not be 1 hit destroy. Demize is going to patch it.

Just because you're not a good enough pilot doesn't mean punish good pilots. It's OP. And I thought what separated COD from BF was vehicles (along with core game mechanics). I can cap points with my Z-11 on Noshar and when all flags are taken I proceed to kill whore. No problem when your team is winning.

@wrath111377 Demize has already stated that it is over powered versus air vehicles and they plan on nerfing it whilst buffing stingers to lock on faster, but have limited range so they can't "deny the skies to air vehicles". Soflam has a range of 600 meters, which denies the skies more than Stingers do, so it'll be nerfed. I imagine using the ECM will break the lock of any incoming Javelin missile and Soflam will have a much smaller range.

Although I agree that having a bunch of engis repairing a heli is retarded, DICE should just remove the ability to repair a vehicle while on it, and get rid of the SOFLAM/Javelin.
