  • I think that Boilerplate pulled a "Bicentennial Man" and became Deadmau5

  • whats the music it's awesome?

  • I think the opposing army stole him for research ..

  • Does he speak?

  • @FalconKPD Boilerplate does speak, with that crackly Victrola quality. He has a few lines in the book.

  • @Boilerplate1893 But it's not to the point where it's creepy like Microsoft Sam, right?

  • @Zay0n That's what I try telling people.....how much evidence do they need?? Of course Boilerplate was (is) real and anyone who says otherwise is not worth our time...........

  • Boiler Plate wouldn't have existed without photo shop.. heh!

  • I got goosebumps at the end when BP vanished forever ;__;

  • so, Boilerplate is a war addict ?

  • @kaimargonar1000 Boilerplate was built in 1893 as a mechanical soldier for "preventing the deaths of men in the conflicts of nations." But before WW1, the idea of replacing an infantryman with a robot was regarded by the military as dishonorable. So, the prototype never went into production. Boilerplate follows Asimov's First Rule of Robotics to a degree. It may wind up injuring someone in the course of combat, but never kills.

  • Sad, this is a wonderful fantasy piece, and yet there are people who actually know so little, and intuit so much less, that they think it's serious. Wow.

  • "Boilerplate–and Campion–was his fictional creation.... the robot and his inventor first appeared in 2000 as part of the Big Red Hair website.... What tricked both Elliott and his brother was a meticulous biography of a made-up figure.... Guinan’s pseudohistory comprised careful documentation in the form of mocked-up photographs and accounts of real battles into which the robot had been carefully inserted."

  • Before you post a comment making a fool of yourself by saying, "Omigawd!!! They never told me about THIS in History class!!!1!~!" I should tell you that IT'S BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED. Go to Wikipedia! Go to the author's website!! GO TO GOOGLE. They all admit that this is fiction inserted into actual history, and that the pictures are nothing more then clever (and I admit, very good) photo-manipulations of old photos and a model. Look for these pictures and you'll find them sans BP.

  • The people are anxiously awaiting Boilerplate's return, to free us from these troubling times of terrorism and teabaggers!

  • It's interesting that in the book they say that churchill get's the idea for ww1 and ww2 british helmets from boilerplate

  • He may not be alive...but he really lived.

  • is it me or dose he look a bit like a penguin.

  • @howling8mad no

  • @JimmyNova Thanks.

  • What a story .... I look forward to learning more...

  • Just imagine being in a battle Boilerplate was fighting in, on the opposing side. That would be pretty terrifying seeing BP use his superior robot strength to rip men to pieces!

  • J.J. Adrams is going to do a movie on this robot.

Thumbs up is you think that awesome.

  • Looks interesting, JJ Abrams supposed to be making a movie about this.

  • Supposedly, there was alot of people out there who thought it was real, lol.

  • If only he were real...

  • Boilerplate will always be my biggest hero.

  • A really cute idea, except that FACE creeps the bejeebers out of me, plus the "Zelig" idea was used already by Woody Allen, AND Forrest Gump.

  • @TheCoddlefish - BP's face is a blank slate. Some find it childlike, others see sadness. BP participates in history, whereas Forrest Gump and Zelig are mere bystanders. The comparison is common because of the visual SFX. The premise of BP is much closer to the TV series Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Actually BP's inspiration comes from writers Gore Vidal and George MacDonald-Fraser, who place fictional protagonists into authentic history. Read the book and see the difference for yourself.

  • @Boilerplate1893 I see almost a childish innocence- like he doesn't want to actually fight or whatever, and something about him makes me feel that he's "alive".

  • I can't understand how some people do not believe the truth when it's there in front of their eyes! If none of this was true how come there are pictures here of him?? Honestly, some people....

  • photo shop lol i for like a few weeks i thought it was real i was so disapointed when i found out it was fake :(

  • @martinjameson67 I'm amazed Glenn Beck hasn't picked up on Boilerplates contributions to America and his great christian heritage.

  • @martinjameson67 it's probally because they take pictures of a model in diferent poses and cleverly edit them into photo's. but it would be cool if he was real.

  • are you guys dumb? this isnt real, go on the boilerplate website, which is used to teach students who major in computer science and IT critical thinking skills and how to verify if information on the website is real or fake. AND THIS IS CLEARLY FAKE

  • How brainwashed does one have to be to believe that Boilerplate is a "FAKE" ??

Removing Boilerplate from our memory is surely a part of some conspiracy to slave the world !!

  • My great grandfather also saw him shortly after the rebellion in Quebec with Papineau. Saved him from hanging. No photograph sadly... Changed Canadian history, that... a little known fact.

  • God, you're stupid. or a lier. just pick one. this is from a FICTIONAL history book

  • @Kumailh Uh, I think you're the one who's s tupid, asshole-it's LIAR,not LIER.What a douchewad.........

  • @Kumailh LIAR,you retard, not LIER-look who's talking about being stupid.

  • My great-grandfather used to tell my father of his brief encounter with a mechanical soldier in the trenches of WWI. We passed the story down through the years but never believed it could be true. Amazing. How quickly history forgets...

  • Because you both got high.

  • *jaw drops in ubber awe* Is this Rust-Bucket even in the books?!?!? HolySmokes!

  • My grandfather told me the story of how his father actually met Campion and saw boilerplate at the St. Louis expo in 1904, I believe. An amazing piece of victorian era history that I'm glad to see has finally came to light. We still have Campions autograph and an original figurine of boilerplate from the expo. Must be worth a good bit, but Ill never part with it.

  • @domter444 RE: What the Freak?! You serious this tin-can is real? I was reading a book at Barnes and Noble about this?!

  • An absolutely amazing, yet little known, piece of American history.

  • Glad that the story of this long forgotten and very important invention is finally being told. If only Boilerplate hadn't gone missing toward the end of WWI...

  • This is the most awesome thing Ive seen in weeks!

  • Boilerplate is a major part of American history! The truth must be known!

  • Yes!! Being a huge Turn of the Century buff, this book looks amazing!

  • i'll second that!
