This is Sky 1's last good ident, imo. Since then their idents on this channel aren't worth talking about much, as they've been totally bad.

From memory, Sky2 at that time didn't have any live continuity or similar graphics idents. We used to manually play prerecorded voiceovers over end credits off a Sonifex cart machine, as we did with the other channels.

And that must mean that if someone uploads a clean version of the ident, then that will be on as well. Unless the person who uploads it decides to cut the start.

I was a Transmission Controller at Sky from 1994 to 1998.

The full sequence: the ident played automatically, we cut to it + the menu, the announcer put himself to air and spoke and the background audio dipped automatically, we mixed the menu off, the ident ran on and finished, the next programme automatically started and we cut/mixed to it. Hard to do neatly on the unsuitable switchers we had whilst being expected to prep the schedule too.

I've only ever seen the Sky 2 ident by itself or a still of a menu, just before Sky 2 Started up at 6. Brilliant Graphics for this time though.

I have the 7pm and 7.30pm junctions from this night, I taped nearly every episode of The Simpsons from Sky 1 from August 1997 to Christmas at least.

Oh my god so cool you managed to get this. This was the last day of that particular Sky One ident. The next day (Nov 1, 1997) they changed to that stupid ones with the coat hangers and lights and stuff.

Back before 1998 If had the choice of NTL or Sky i would of chosen Sky but now I would go with NTL/Virgin Media
