I think she was trying point out that most people were unaware of what to call mass killings, since most now days know it as genocide. Very good research by the way though. Also this documentary says the Armnenian killings were the first genocide of the 20th century but overlooks the Herero and Namaqua Genocide which occurred between 1904 and 1907.

Aside from the dozens and dozens of journalism awards she has received (including 4 peadbody's), I think Amanpour deserves the nobel peace prize. She is an amazing person, and has brought an end to so many tragedies, that might otherwise have gone on unknown.

Considering that the US didn't ratify the Genocide Convention until the the Regan administration and it still didn't call on countries to stop crimes against humanity during Cambodia and the attacks on the Kurds in Irag due to political connections I have to disagree. The Genocide in Namibia in 1904-1907 was the first genocide of the 20th century. 80% of the Herero people were wiped out by the Germans. I think attention needs to be brought on all genocides, but to not acknowledge another genocide is exactly what the Turks are doing.

But there is a difference: The difference is that the issues raised in Screaming Bloody Murder were outlawed, whereas the Benes Decrees were and are not.
As recently as 2002/3 the Benes Decrees were recently reaffirmed as valid legal order: In other words the law that authorised the genocide of the East European Germans is still valid; genocide in both the Czech and Slovak Republics is still legal.

Although it's important that issues such as those in "Scream Bloody Murder" are aired it is equally if not more important to present a full account of 20th century genocide without discrimination or else it comes across as a double loaded barrel where genocide is considered in one barrel and discrimination is exercised in the other.
