Lol cash for clunkers... a scam. you'll have a 400-500 car note for a few years, paying for higher gas prices not only that, we- the tax payers and funding this.
foreign cars built in the US by American workers, sold at retail car shops owned, operated and run by Americans.
AKA more cars sold equals greater stability to the car industry, which is the backbone of American manufacturing. No one is twisting someones arm to buy a car. If an individual buys a 30,000 car with only a 4,500 gov rebate, they prbably can afford it. If not then that is their mistake. Personal responsibility no?
This should be called "Cash 4 Clunkers 4 UPPER-middle clas & the rich". First you have to have WAY high credit score to get a loan for a NEW car, this program doesn't offer for used cars at all, then if a person does get a loan on a new buy, they go into MORE DEBT. This is an Obama payoff for the AIU. This program doesn't care about "the enviornment" or regular folks in the middle class or lower. I have a HUGE old Clunker Town Car 4 sale at $3,500. That'd make you 1G profit. ANYONE INTRESTED?
This is stupid! They are considering 2000-2001 car a clunker, which it is not, those vehicles could be used for many years to come! This is stupid it will raise used car prices and not everyone can afford a brand new car, and not everyone wants a huge car payment.
No one wants a $400-600 car note along with full coverage insurance for the next 5-7yrs PLUS paying for high gas prices. Yep, I see savings there! That $4,500 will seem like nothing.
And whose to say these people won't get laid off along with the millions of others that already have? They'll be what? Right back into another OLD car. Crazy.
It skips the salvage yard where it could be beneficial to somebody, and goes immediately to the melting pot, where all the entire vehicle, plastic, rubber, oil, and glass etc are melted together at sea, on freighters, on its way to Asia for recycling. sounds really green, eh?
No thank you! I don't want the NEW CAR payment to ago along with that $3,500 that I will likely have to pay back in finance charges, taxes and fees alone =)
Omg, it just hit me. I wasn't looking at the big picture. Guess I'm a bit slow.
Who does this ultimately benefit? All those new car loans about to be made.......guess who? The big BANKS! ...The very ones we just bailed out with billions of our taxpayer dollars.
It may be of some benefit to struggling new car dealers also, but mostly, it's another, hidden bailout of the big banks.
Wow, the American taxpayer has just been had. Again.
I'll be trading in this 1989 Ford F-150 with the hole in the floor and no power steering and 8 miles to the gallon, for a 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS as soon as the funds are available. Wow, what a horrible idea!
Well, I'm happy for you then. You are one of the fortunate ones who can afford to buy a brand new automobile. A great many people can not.
Just don't forget to thank those people who can not afford to buy a new car for themselves, because their tax dollars are helping to pay for your new truck.
New cars only. Sooo, the guy who can afford to buy that new luxury car in today's economy gets to trade in his Lincoln SUV for a brand new Lexus!
And instead of deciding whether he wants the premium Bose stereo or the upgraded wheels, or a sunroof, he can have them ALL with that $4500.00 government voucher.
AND this cash for clunkers can only be used to buy a brand-spankin new car, right off the showroom floor. If you have an old gas-guzzler but can't afford a new-car note, sucks for you!
More of our hard-earned tax dollars being spent to benefit only the rich. Thanks Obama.
B.O.: "hey, these freakin' hybrids aren't selling - quick, let's brainstorm. Yeah, "cash for clunkers" - that's great Joe. Okay, problem solved. We can put that great, innovative idea right on the wall with the rest of mine: -keep tires inflated -regular tune-ups -turn down thermostats in winter -turn up thermostats in summer -recycle -help thy neighbor -blame all problems on old, white guys -blame all problems on Fox hmmmm... I guess that is it."

Actually, you can get a used car that gets better gas mileage than the car you have right now. Get your facts right.
spann37 2 years ago
Actually, I did get my facts right.
The legislation specifically states NEW CARS. Used cars are not included.
Maybe you should get your facts right.
Maybe you should even (gasp) read the bill.

You are right, I was wrong, I stand corrected. I'm man enough to admit it. Without all the sarcasm.
