As with most songwriters, we write that which we live and know best. Even so, life is merely the inspiration that ignites our imaginations. Most of my songs are about 60% reality and 40% fantasy. The real events create a foundation on which a theme is born. Anything we add to that is poetic licence and cleverness. This is the craft I believe behind the ability.
