Phones always make voices slightly distorted, plus they probably weren't expecting a call from another idol, so they weren't listening for his voice. They seemed genuinely unsure when they were asking if it was Jonghyun; they squealed and shouted it, but then seemed like they were asking if it was definitely him after. They wouldn't have done that if they recognised his voice from the start.
