I honestly don't understand what the problem is, I have all the correct info. I think it has something to do with activating it or some crap... Help asap would be GREATLY appreciated. I'll sub.. :D

  • @seamonkey420

Yeah I imagine Xbox will have to move to more of a multi media platform to compete next time.

  • Xbox files take less space, argue all you like, if you do, you probably own one system. PS3 you should reformat all these external hard drives and thumb drives people use. ALSO most people can't handle this simple process. as evident by the 25% success rate in the four questions below. (and 25% talking about an old ass XP laptop not sure what to really think of him:)

  • @BadFont hehe. they do take less space but you can't put any movies locally on the XBOX's harddrive. i miss that w/my 360 slim. i do however use the space by installing all of my xbox games to the hdd.

  • why dosent the format thing pop up to me? PLEASE HELP ME THANKS

  • I just upgrade my laptop/ OS XP hardrive from 80GB to 250GB but when I check my C: drive it only shows 127GB. Do you know where I can down load a patch to correct this?

  • @farstarfilms most likely is a hidden partition you have to delete and then you can expand the main partition to fill up the rest of the space. go into Computer Management > Disk Management (right-click My Computer > manage)

  • Thanks homie

  • my ps3 doesn't say if i want to format the new hard drive so it doesn't start help please!!!!

  • 320 gb hdd for my 360 and it only cost me 50 us American dollars

  • @TheKnightBoner thats nice. funny how it took you two comments to get that across and an insult.

how about a link to where you got it? that would be a bit more helpful.

  • Hey dumb ass I have a

  • can you do it with a 40gb and what hard drive would you recommend

  • nice dude i like that but how u know what sizes is the phat ps3 Hard Drive

  • @seamonkey420 oh by the way dude you can get a 500gb for $90 on eBay

  • Did I here you used your P C to back up the PS3 info, will that work?

  • @DBSpy1 nope, i just used my pc to format the external harddrive to FAT32 so i could then backup to it.

  • i have the 80GB PAL version of the PS3

my hard drive is fitted length wise. so all i kneed to do it pull this wee metel thing and it comes out much easier than this guys one :)))

  • i have now a 320gb HDD, and id like to change back to my old 60gb HDD just to get some videos and stuff, can i do thid smothly without loosing anything or do i have to bckup everything just because i change HDD back and forth?

  • Yd u turn the light off, hiding something LOL

  • Let's have the light on next video, ok? Nice vid.

  • could i use a western digital 250 gb?

  • Dam, that blue screw is a bitch! I'm using those skinny metal screw drivers. I'll just look for the one you're using, thanks a lot though, easier than I thought.

  • Does this disable your warranty?

  • @BiggTuna1

    No it doesn't

  • Nope

  • @BiggTuna1 I don't think so. That's a good question tho. Cus I;m thinkin about updating my hard drive.

  • @BiggTuna1 Nope Sony really incourage you to, thats why its easy to accsess

  • u can get a 500gb hard drive for $100

  • wow ur retarded u can buy a 1TB harddrive for 99 bucks... lol

  • wow, your even more retarded since you CAN'T BUY a 1TB that FITS the PS3.

the 1TB laptop harddrives are TOO BIG to fit. comment fail on you.

  • yup, your officially an idiot.

yes, they are the same size in width but not depth. 2.5" = the width of the harddrive not the actual depth. the ps3 can ONLY take laptop harddrive that is under 10mm in height; most 1TB laptop harddrives are 12.5mm or 13mm.

    you obviously have no clue..

  • you have no fucking clue on what your saying do you?

lets see your 1TB harddrive in your PS3 then? i'd love to see your video on jamming it in.

  • @ElijahDTF u gotta remember this was 2 years ago prices change too

  • does that violate the warranty

  • I don't believe it does not. Just keep your old one in case you want to have sony repair.

  • no it does not

  • Should I buy a Playstation 3 Slim 250GB ? I have never bought a Playstation 3 before. Don't reply if your just one of those people who just hate xbox. Tell me all the good and bad about the Ps3 before I buy it and possibly waste my money

  • @cargin23boy

well i wasted my money buying a 80gb ps3 when it came out for 650 bucks -_-

  • @aznerd999 Well I purchased it last night, with Dj Hero, Fifa 10, Rachet and clank and Little big planet. So if it is no good then I will re sell.

  • have you made a decision yet ..

  • i just sold my xbox 360 for a ps3 and i am honestly liking it better. Both are hreat consoles, and the ps3 takes a little bit longer to get used to, but it's definitly worth it. The only thing i don't like is the fact that their "playstation store" or "market place" is not as user-friendly and as easy to navigate, but its decent.

  • how much new hardrive cost

and where i can buy it?

  • should i get a seagate or a western digital? cuz western seems cheaper but i dunno if it has any problems...

  • hey i got dat same scooby clock lolz

  • question? can i put a 60GB HDD into an 80GB PS3 without no HDD and i could still see my data without backing it up

  • No, you have to back it up to keep your data

  • shit man. i got my psp i hope that will work?

  • well what would happen if i put in the HDD anyway?

  • Forget what I said, it should work

  • u sure?

  • so when u take the hard drive out the ps3 does all ur saved data (Game saves , vids , music) get deleted?

  • aye y wont my ps3 read my external harddrive??

  • how is it formatted? it probably is formatted in NTFS filessystem.

find a program called fat32formatter adn use it to format hdd to fat32; then ps3 can read it. backup data prior to formatting though! :)

  • does it save everything u have in the ps3 you know all saved data and the Playstation network account does it save all that in the hard drive then you turn off ps3 and take out the hard drive?

  • hmm can you use anything as a back up?

I just need to back up game saves, 2 movies, and well yea that's about it. So could I used my PSPGo as a back up thing?

Two more random questions, does ps3 play avi? I never bothered to try and you seem like you know a lot, and this wont make me need to reactivate my psn account will it? I think I traded it out

  • Yeah it will run .AVI files.

  • lol the mystery wagon clock is dope.

  • ignore the xbot

nothing to see here. move along

  • I have both a PS3 and a 360...I have to say the 360 is the superior gaming system, especially Xbox Live, it's worth every penny. Anyway, thanks for the vid, I'm definitely upgrading my PS3 HD.

  • @rpe33 xbox is the worst gaming system, even the ps1 is better, which has no overheating problems, it don`t got 33% failiure rate, I had my xbox in 1 year and some monts and its fucked, not my ps1!

  • @NWA90s well, i've had the same xbox since launch day so I can't relate. I'm only telling you my personal preference so take it for what it's worth.

  • when u change ure HDD , and u back up ure stuff on an external HDD , does the "DLC's" from gamens or other DLC things also go to the external HDD so u can put the DLC's back on ure system one u changed ure HDD ?

  • i believe so. the main thing is that you have to re-activate the new harddrive after you restore your backup and login to PSN w/your PSN ID.

then to activate, go to Network > Account Management > Activate/Deactivate System.

hopefully that gets it done. peace

  • NICE!!!!!!!!! Just Showed Me What I'd Have To Do In The Future When I Fill Up The Space On My PS3 I Have The 160 GB Model)

  • where did you buy it from

  • You could use more light you know. Makes for a better instructional video. Hell it makes for a better video of any kind.

  • no need for yhe race dig

  • ps3 games>3shitty

  • LOL!! Not good ones!! rofl your an idiot!

The 360 only has 1 exclusive!! everything else is available in PC!! HAHAHAH good fight noob

  • .. Wow,I'm sorry but your an idiot, The Ps3 has more exclusive on the xbox till date, and will be having more in the next coming months, Good try do, You made me laugh.

  • Cool! I got a free 320gb ps3 harddrive yesterday from a site called p2s (Checkout my unboxing vid), This really helps XD

  • hey can u give me the site??

  • 160 is a rip off, newegg has it for 59.98

  • I've formatted a 320gb hardrive in fat32 but it still doesn't recognise it, do you need to put any ps info on the hardrive first?

  • your video is really help full. Well done!!

  • The only thing that the 360 really has on the ps3 is just Game Selection, although the ps3 is catching up.

  • i could not agree more. am gonna upgrade my ps3 harddrive to 160 gb and how do u put movies on the ps3 and do u know where i can get a ps3 hardrive??

  • LOL, nice jab at the 360, good video, yeah the lighting is low but so what you can still tell whats going on, no video on youtube is perfect. But you have all the information anyone needs to know.

  • Nice vid but NO light!!

  • fuck you for being a douche. ha!

yea, note how my video is from mar 4 2008. suck on that your xbot. oh wait, how much is the 120gb harddrive upgrade? oh yea, more than a 500gb hdd for a ps3.

  • i dont need need to upgrade cause it comes with 120gb dumbass and i still havent use 15gb yet

  • good for you then. i personally have 25GB of 500GB left cuz i like to put my movies on my console and my music.

PS3 isn't for you, like the x360 isn't for me. we all win.

  • haha.. ps3 is 10x more technologically advanced then xbox so you should probably go suck one...

  • fyi my brother has a ps3 and im not saying its total crap but i just dont think its better then 360 thats just my opinion. you can have your own opinion.....

  • Sony really went overboard with the 60gb PS3, but because they did, it's the greatest console in existence. Too bad it's barely hanging on to life, as Sony decided to cut it from the market.

  • damn a 60gb ps3 is the best ps3 model to upgrade with a large hardrive because it will make it the ultimate ps3.mine is a 60gb 2 and im gonna save up 4 a 250gb hardrive i cant wait til i get it.

  • add me JoshB_FTW_1993

  • i need a quick and realistic answer! 1. i have 80GB version... and i know that mine can't read ps2 games... and that yours 60GB version can... so, if i could put that 250GB in it... can it read ps2 games??? and i know about those serials on the back of my ps3... can 160GB version... read them 'cuz i want to sell ps3 80GB to buy one with backwards compability... and i want it to be a slim model... what shoul i doo???? and shoul i pay atention on these letters on the back of it????

  • nope, harddrive does not add PS2 compatibility. PS2 compatibility is builtin to the 20gb, 60gb ps3s (emotion chip) and emulated on the 80gb mgs bundles.

and no, sony does not plan to offer BC in any current or new versions. to get BC, you need to get a phat 60gb or 20gb or the 80gb w/software emulation (MGS bundle i believe)

  • ok, and i'm trying to know, what if i actually buy that 60 GB version.... and what if i upgrade it like U did... (on 250GB), will that ... PS3 250GB (60GB version) ... had BC???

  • if you do buy a 60gb that has BC and upgrade the hdd, you retain the BC since its builtinto the ps3 itself (has the actual ps2 emotion chip).

    hope that helps

  • yes it helps... TNX... and the only thing i have to do is to sell my 80GB ps3... and to buy that 60GB... TNX a lot!

  • I've been building computers for 12 years and modding Xboxes, Wiis, and 360s, so the difficulty level on a job like this is about -10.

  • wat happens if the screws break....or 1 breaks..will the ps3 not read the HDD??

  • where can i buy these hard drives the uk?

  • You remember ps3 on my first comment on this. Its 60 GB Model and 4 usb 2.0 and its can install other os.

  • I can play ps2 on my ps3

  • will it work for the 80 gb ps3

  • yup, any ps3 will work.

as for Trophies, these are tied to your PSN account and are backed up to sony's server each time you get a trophy so they will be saved.

as for backing up of your ps3 hdd before swapping; my advice is to buy a 100gb external hdd and then run the Backup/Restore utility in the System Settings menu

  • there is no limit on what size hdd the ps3 can take. the only limit is the physical size of the harddrive.

500GB hdds work fine, 1TB may be too thick. i will be testing once i get one in sept 2009 :)

  • hey i can up grade muy ps3 but how to i get all my stuff off my 80gig ps3 to my new can i use a nintendo wii for that or a memery stick or do i have to get 1 external hdd

  • what is ylod

  • im not trying to talk shit but im against toleon1965 coment . i mean you got a ps3 so you can play ps3 games not ps2 !!!

  • i agree at first i was like damn i can't play MGS3 but then i was like i could always just get a ps2 for 30 bucks off craigslist ....then i got the ps3 and never played the game again, good system

  • Can u upgrade and do backup then u get all ure old accounts and memory from ur old hardware? Please answer cuz i really want to know.

  • How much does that back up storage thing cost?

  • Light the room the next time you turn on your camera.

  • if u have a 160gb ps3 can u make it to 250 gb?

  • yes just buy the hard drive and install it

  • yeah buy the 250gb harddisc (harddrive in english?, well harddisk in dutch) replace it with the old one.

  • yes

  • Hay dude, lets say you have a 40GB PS3 and you upgrade it to 80 or 160 GB, can u play PS2 games on the PS3 that "WAS" 40GB but than upgrades to 160 or 80GB?

  • So You Got All Your Memory Back On The 250GB Hard Drive Just By Putting It In the PS3 And Clciking On Back Up Restore?

  • I bought a 250gb hdd that runs 7200rpm for 60 bucks, 60!!!

  • Isnt it suppose to be 5400rpm?

  • u can also use 7200 rpm hdd, its very slightly faster, but thats not the point. IT WAS 60 BUCKS

  • hum.. i have loads of trophies in my current harddrive,if i´m upgrading to a new one will i loose them all?? or is there any way i can tranfer them to he new hdd?

  • That's what happened when I upgraded mine. I started playing the game then it suddenly gave me a trophy I got a while ago but it didn't give me all of them. All I did was play each game then went into the trophies from the game and synced them up. Example I played Dead Space then went into the trophies and synced them up and I got them all back.

  • I think you have to do that for each game. Like I said this is how I got mine back.

And I wasn't sure if the trophies were working until I got "Killing Machine" for R2.

  • No trophies are saved by psn accounts, and if they're not then the could be backed up too I guess they shouldn't take to much memory.

  • do a back up :D

  • no ur trophies are saved 2 ur psn account even if u upgrade that wont be affected

  • Well when u get ur new hardware and install it and logg in to ur online account and got to trophies then it will take sum minutes to recieve the trophies from ur online account. Havnt done it yet but my freind have and i was there and saw him change hardware from 40gb to 250gb! ;D (Me got still 40gb :()

  • i understand you....

i´m kind of angry with sony,cuz- no more flash card reader,no more 4 usb´s,it doesnt read ps2 gmes etc....

i´m very fuckin angry with those guys!

  • if they didn't do that your ps3 woulld've have the ylod

  • hmm sucks to be you cause i got all of that guess you just got the wrong ps3

  • im changing my PS3 Hard disc tomorrow from 40GB to 500GB ;)

  • you pay too much for it i got mine for $50

  • dude, remember i'm doing upgrades months before you are. :P

the price i get at the time is the best you can find. i'm a cheap geek.

  • cut the lights on

  • i have the 80gb and my hard drive is different from urs mines does not have a handel thing to pull it out but i does have a screw ill see what i can do

  • Yo know what.. I have the same thing with mine, though mine is 40gb... but I asked one of the sonyworld employee that if I cud to do this and he said yes! You can upgrade your ps3 hdd but you have to be very gentil and careful while doing it or you might just get your HDD stuck in there!

  • thanks for your reply

  • if u had a 360 u could watch netflixs strait from their.... plus who needs blu-shit anyways. sigh.... microsoft sucks

  • BR is awesome. If you think you're getting hidef via streaming, you're kidding yourself. Also you can get netflix on PS3 with playon. One time $20 fee rather than paying every month for xbox live.

  • Yeah it duss take 10 minutes if your starting from scratch, but if you want to keep all your trophies and that its an extra hour or two.

So hes right, it does only take about 10 minutes for the basic replacement of the harddrive:)

  • its not really 10 mins cause the last half takes an hour and a-half. but good vid

  • i have a question that would be very nice to hear a response for seamonkey.

ive heard that if you put a 7200rpm in the ps3 that there are thermal problems? like over-heating.

is this true since i want to upgrade my HDD from the 80GB to a 500GB but its a 7200rpm so i want to hold off unil i have an answer. thanks in advance.

  • Yeah, it is highly recommended that you put in a 5400rpm HDD. Using a 7200rpm will have overheating problems.

  • hmm...damn. oh well just return thsi drive and get a 5400rpm version then. thanks for the heads up.

  • i've heard of this but its usually another factor coming into play too such as a console in closed off area and a faster hdd.

generally though, the 7200 shouldn't add that much heat. for the slim's i'd imagine that it would be even less of an impact since they are already a more efficient chipset revision.

  • Hey seamonkey420, Would a Buffalo Technology - MiniStation Cobalt 250GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive work for a new HDD Ps3 Hard Drive?

  • the reason why your settings were the same was because it dosnt save them to the hard drive, it saves that on the motherboard of the PS3, making it alot easier for users to switch HHD

  • If I upgrade from a 60gb to a 250gb, is there a way to transfer all of my game data, and my PSN onto the new one?

  • back it up before upgrading.

  • can i use my ps3 hdd in my laptop? was thinking of just doing a swap, please someone let me know if this can be done. I THINK ITS THE SAME SIZE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I PUT THE PS3 HARD DRIVE IN MY LAPTOP WILL IT STILL WORK LIKE WINDOWS IF I PUT THE 40 GB PS3 IN MY LAPTOP. WILL 40 GB BE GOOD FOR A LAPTOP LOL

  • more space means, more space on youporn downloads..lol

  • i have to buy a new lens mine got scratched by a cleaning cd

  • dude seamonkey you are so good u r the only video that shows if the system settings and login info still work after a new hdd so .......... u r so good

  • thanks buddy! /blushes

  • i got a question how much is the hdd and. i wanna save my other stuff any tips?

  • please help!!! can you get an external media storage with around 35gb? my memorystick is way to small... and can i back up any data like stuff i bought from the playstation store?

  • can i ask how much is the hdd and where can i buy it.. do they have it in best buy...

  • can i use my ps3 hdd in my laptop? was thinking of just doing a swap, please someone let me know if this can be done before i balls it up

  • You Can If It's The Same Size (2.5")

  • SeaMonkey can u help me?

    I just bort a 500GB Seagate SATA 5,400RPM.

    I hav a 40GB HDD version, Australian.

I backd up my data on a 8GB USB stick after formattin it 2 FAT32.

Afta that I swap ova the HDD, put everythin bak n turn the unit on.

I then get a msg sayin "Plug in PS3 controller n press the PS button"

I do that then it says it can't load firmwire, press "Start n Select" at the same time to update wif ver 2.7 or highr

Do that, it searches USB but finds nothin

    Any ideas???

  • you cant use a 500 gb , the higest you can use is 250gb

  • Well SeaMonkey is usin a 500GB (chcek comments)

    Got it workin.

Plug USB into PC - Format FAT32 - Create Folder on USB titled "PS3" and create another folder inside folder "UPDATE" must be caps.

Download update (current 2.7) directly on USB into "UPDATE" folder.

When msg comes up on PS3 put USB in and press Start and Select at the same time and it's done. It will then format the new HDD.

Mine works now n hav a 500GB HDD in my PS3.

    YIPPEEEEE!!!!!
