But the first two chords in the opening verse should be Gsus2(add#4) and then Dmaj7/F#.

But if it's easier, you could always just play G and then D/F#. (At least it's more accurate than the D Major, B Minor pattern you were playing.)

The full progression in the opening verse is:

Gsus2(add#4) x2 | Dmaj7/F# x2

D/G x2 | Bm11 x2

Em11 | D/F# | D/G x2

Em11 | D/F# | Gmaj9#11 | G(add2)

(x2 = play for 2 measures)

But again, very nicely played!
