Great review on the four cameras, the Nikon, Olympus, Sony and Panasonic . Great technical info! The video is so correct about finding the best digital camera being subjective. There are websites that can help with finding a digital camera to meet ones photography needs. The site that I have found to be helpful has been digital camera ratings dot net. The site divides the camera levels into beginner, amateur and professional level cameras. It certainly helped me.
I'd never heard the term "bridge camera" before I bought mine - is it closer to a point and shoot or DSLR? (Frankly I couldn't tell much difference between the controls of a Kodak easy-share and the Sony)
@4TIMESAYEAR A bridge camera is supposed to 'bridge' the gap between compact and DSLR. So DSLR type controls and styling but with compact camera sensor/image quality. In practice they mostly seem to have gone down the route of fitting very long zooms.
I want a Canon sx20 but apparently canon has a lens problem. If you wanna know, it's called E18. Maybe I should get the Panasonic FZ28 but..Idk it seems like Canon sx20 IS is better
im comparing two cameras. the panasonic fz35(sensor size 1/2.33 - 12mp) and Sony HX1 (sensor size 1/2.4 - 9.1mp). which has bigger sensor? And which of the two has less shutter lag? newbie here.
I am a FZ28 user currently shot 300 photos maybe more since i used it in February 2009. Only sometimes i get blurry pictures due to my carelessness and unprepared to shoot. ANywhere, it is a good camera and will upgrade it in the future. Unfortunately no hotshoe huhu.
Sorry, maybe i was a bit rude, but it's quite hard to belive what others say about big company's stuffs... It's a bit weird that there were 2 84% and 2 86%. I think the h50 is not worse than the fz28. Its microphone is crappy and it ruins the the video even with the HD quality. The h50 has remote control and movable 3" LCD screen which can be fun. Altough it has nicer saturation compared to the fz28. A guy who had both cameras, said that the h50 make better pics overall.
You are perfectly entitled to your opinion of which camera is 'best', and different people will value different things in any camera. But to go so far as to accuse us of being sponsored by any manufacturer - simply because our findings don't reflect your own - is both unfair and completely untrue.
no hot shoe on the Panasonic FZ28 otherwise would have been interested, gone for SX10 which you can now get a RAW patch for though I may not bother as its only a back up for my dslr.
Though I have a Canon dSLR I recently bought a FZ28 to substitute my old dead FZ20. FZ28 is a little jem. Tweaking in cam-settings I can maximize IQ and the RAW give some more space to pull out those details that NR tends to slighly destroy in JPGs. But VE IV doeas a great job with CA and WA distortion... Set the cam to -2 NR, -1 saturation, -1 contrast and -1 or 0 Sharpening. Use Kelvin WB (Auto WB is not always precise). FZ28 doesn't have hot shoe, twistable LCD, fixed lens and F11 as Fz50 :-(
just bought a sony h50 today. I personally love it. I had tried out the nikon at the store, but in terms of handling it, the grip somewhat annoyed me because it felt clammy. anyway, thanks for the review.
I was considering the Canon SX10, but didn't have high definition video, and the Panasonic FZ28 have almost identical features and quality as the Canon, so I got the Panasonic and let me tell you that this is so far the best camera I ever purchase, so easy to use and near perfect pictures, only one thing, read the manual and you'll be surprise of what this camera is capable of.
which camera guys?? I am gonna buy Canon SX10 or any alternate to SLR Is it a good camera? I am not a professional photographer but want to buy a very good quality camera.(SLR cameras are too big and heavy to easy carry).Based on the reviews and rating Canon seems to be #1. My budget is $400. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
they are nearly the same , but the main difference is the HD video , but at a much higher price , the sx10 doesnt have a poor quality video , its just ordinary
I have the H50, very nice camera, I like it. He said it was 10 Megapixels when really it's only 9.1 Megapixels. But anyways, nice video. While these cameras look nice, I think there should have been a Canon camera in this review. Canon all the way!
I think the PowerShot S5 IS came out before this review was made, don't know for sure, but that would be in this class of high-end high zoom cameras. The PowerShot SX10 IS came out not too long ago as well, but came out after this review was made. That would be in this class too, with 20x optical zoom. :)
I did consider Canon PowerShot S5 IS but dropped it at the last minute since they use AA batteries (NiMH recommend). Canon camera's are pretty good but this time I went for Panasonic FZ28.
at night, with high ISO I would say it depends on the photographer, just change the shutter speed to fast and use flash, or keep the camera extremely steady AND use flash, or have some other light source and set high ISO and keep camera extremely steady without flash...
Anybody here famaliar with the Olympus 1010 Camera:? How many pictures will the internal memory store,/// How many will the standard memory card hold//?

canon powershot sx10 is a great choice
but the canon powershot sx1 can record movies at full HD video while the sx10 can record at very poor quality
they both look and feel exactly the same
is your choice
i would go with the canon powershot sx1
more useful features

13fps on fz28 is on 2MP and wide screen 16:9. I think the recently released SX1 IS is the daddy of all the compact bridge camera's.
SX10IS should compare directly with the two recommended

I also want to add that the FZ28 records video in 720p HD - which none of its competitors can do.

If the panasonic FZ28 had better audio quality when recording video, it would be the perfect camera.
