didn´t write rushdie such a weird novel about an indian kinda beatles conquering the world? well, he really has a blooming phantasy ))
and to me their indian trip was the time wen the beatles became more and more ridiculous -- from that on they were enlightened by maharishi, and that means they became bitchy at each other
I think every "Beatle" was great. The Beatles aren't the Beatles without John or Ringo! Without Georg, without Paul!
Everybody was A Beatle only. But together they were the BEST, most amazing group of the world! THE BEATLES!
And maybe you think Paul was the best or like "pacificspade" John was the best Beatle. What was John without Paul, Georg and Ringo. Yes he was a great musician but he was not so good as he was in the Beatlestime!
I miss a group like the beatles have been in our time!
It's easy to talk about how the Beatles weren't as good as they were without the others because the Beatles music is better than any of their solo stuff but that could just be because they got older and weren't as full of ideas as they once were. Personally I like John the best and I think it continues to show his foot up on the others into the solo days while he was still putting out quality stuff Paul was getting bogged down with "selling out" and George was still a tag along in comparison
and that's not to say that Paul was really selling out at all times and that John wasn't (Rock n Roll was shit while Ram was awesome) but Paul did stay with his pop roots and I think the monotony that that comes with shows at many times with Wings. I still like Paul but I think John does better without Paul and George and Ringo than the others do without him.
and I mean there is nothing wrong with picking a favorite Beatles. I wouldn't be into the Beatles if it weren't for John's songs and John's other works. Hell, I even like Yoko's early noise oriented albums (especially I might add) and I cherish Two Virgins . . . Now I hold dearly some Paul songs and George songs and maybe even a couple Ringo songs too but i'd not have abided any of it if not for my love for John.
George didn't really tag along, he helped his friends with their own ideas. When any of them needed him for something, he was there for them.
Also, I think All of Johns music is great, and I even think his solo stuff is better than the beatles stuff. By the time John went solo he had already experimented in a lot of musical styles and just never got the chance to expand even more.
Did you ever watch, "The US vs John Lennon"? id you are a Lennon fan you should check it out.
in no way can u say that Johns solo stuff is alot better than his beatles stuff. Yes he does have great songs as a solo artist but he has more amazing songs as a beatle. but thats your opinion!
"in this case"? wtf dude . . . I am by no means a Bono fan I absolutely hate U2 but c'mon he said nothing wrong there. He stated where he was coming from as a musician . . . he didn't say that he didn't like the Beatles he just said that he learned to fight against their notion of love which was a big part of punk/post-punk sort of culture "fighting against the hippies blah blah" he was just stating that his times brought a bias and yet he still respected them . . . gah dense
well if he believed that 'hippie love' or whatev can make you happy why did he spend so much time fighting it? its at least good that he was able to respect the greatest musicians of all time.
for that matter why did anyone fight it in the first place?? it seems like one of the only things that people should be able to agree is a good thing. oh well, i didn't follow that scene, so i'm probably missing something here.
ok well I'll put it simply so everyone can understand. What Bono is essentially saying but in more words is: Even though there was a generation gap and his generation resented the types of philosophy and music that was popular in the Beatles time he still had a place for them in his heart.
The Beatles no matter who your favorite is or was is something that should be noted, is missing in society today. Especially in America. Un-religious. You don't need no church-house , you don't need no temple, just open up your heart stop being a lemming. There's so much variety of associations with Beatles music and solo albums. Listen to "Words of Love" by Buddy Holley, you see the past present and future of rock'n'roll as Lennon introduced Chuck Berry on the Mike Douglas Show.
Hey, kids all of this happen in a few short years. But like anyones life today, back then it was unfolding one day at a time. You see it all in a few minutes or hours, but it was not like that. All kinds of other bands were pumping out tunes as well.
John Lennon was the drive behind the Beatles - they would not be without him. George Martin is the 5th Beatle; only through his production would their songwriting take on the sound we all can readily recognize. His vision/production polished all of those tunes to the #1 hits they were. Are there any bad Beatles tunes?
well you've gotta give paul, george, & ringo credit too. because they helped a LOOOT. in my eyes, john/paul created the beatles together...if paul hadn't seen john that day, vice versa, it would've never happend. destiny, i tell ya! :P

The Magical Mistery Tour I read was one of John Lennons albums. Sting is right. I think everytime I listen to a Beatles record I learn something new about life. I only get that experience with weed and The Bible.
I wonder how the Stones music would have changed if it had been THEM, rather than the Beatles, that all "fell in love with the "MARAHISHI" simultaneously. (Keith Richard cracks me up) I submit that, POSSIBLY, Brian Jones would still be among us and appearing regularly on David Letterman or something.
Wow, this part really shows the remarkable influence they had on culture; introducing meditation to Western society, marketing love on a global scale, inventing the concept of the global village...unbelievable! Proof that there was more to the Beatles than just being geniuses.

It is so appropriate that the first world-wide television broadcast involved the greatest musicians ever to grace the earth with their existence.
They should've just made it hours of Beatles instead of each country contributing.
