Upa is portugese for bridge. In Brazil they speak portugese. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Japanese Judo, with Russian Kettlebells, and all in an American Dojo. See the international asskickn
16 Kg (32 lbs) is considered to be the standard weight to start with--don't be fooled by 32 lbs...kettlebells are not free weights. I would also recoment buying two 15 lbs Kettlebells, like the king you find a Sportmart, Target etc. To practice some of the moves that require a lot of stability.
this is the coolest video with the best music I've ever seen on youtube!!! As a fellow bjj practitioner I can honestly say that the workout is totally awesome for bjj. Next time I tap someone out I'll tell the that it was because of the extra time that I spent doing your workout!!! Thanks!!! and I gotta say that the music ROCKS!!!!!
its cool how popular kettlebells have become. i have trained with kettlebells the last 10 years and i knew they were gonna become popular at some point.
This is awesome! ! ! I want to try KB and i will do it today on training. U showed me how it is related to BJJ. Finally i found it after 2 days at computer:)
Awesome video! I have played rugby for years and I have just started conditioning with KB's. The difference is awesome! This is a great video you have produced. Keep up the great work!
I use kettlebells three times a week for jiu jitsu conditioning and streight and I know I wouldnt be the same without them. PLus what better way to work on your grip and not even be trying!!!! Awesome video! I hope you make many more like it! thanks!
What song is this?

Great video. It was good to see the thoughts about how they directly related to BJJ.
Of course, you can't see someone do a Turkish Get Up and not thing of BJJ (if you've ever done it).

@JOHNOOH
They're interconnected. The upa is almost identical to a bridge, what matters is the speed and intensity.
An upa is a rapid buck (what it actually means) to simply move someone out of position.
The bridge is the full measure, more controlled and angled. There were actually both upas and a bridge in this video....two upas and then a bridge.

Excellent video. I use kettlebells for my back and shoulders (along with dumbell). I can definitely see an improvement after only 2 weeks.
