A very silly but very funny TV series. I once met the late Pat Buttram (Mr. Haney) in person. In Green Acres he was always referred to as Mr. Haney but one episode gives his first name. What was his first name ? Eustis.
He he, my favorite show although nearly a tie with "Newhart" which shared the same tortured sane man among loonies in a small town scenario. Everytime Lisa needs to say 'shoot', in any episode, she says 'shoost'. Her Hungarian accent was used to the full and a big part of the shows zaniness, as proof imagine it without that.
Green Acres and I Dream of Jeannie...........my top two favorite classic tv shows. Everything today sucks. Except for Two and a Half Men. (The Charlie Years.)
@OnTheLamBert you are so right ------- but check out '' Raising Hope ' i was very surprized how funny the show is, try it---- always searching for a good laugh
I admit I have little interest in the show itself (though it seems to be pretty good) but Eva and Patt just make my inner Disney-weened child SQUEEE with joy. :D
Mr Haney was a real character (with a different name of course) it was strange because he knew when something broke
when it happened he'd come over with some ancient piece of farm machinery that was cheap enough to buy for the person to part it out on what ever was broken
Yes, indeed, OldTelevisioRocks! Sommers was fantastic!
Jennifer 1000, the way I keep the reloading from driving me bananas is to turn off the sound and let it stop-go play all the way through while I do something else, then Replay it. It goes smoother the 2nd time.
Why does this always happen with the wait and wait and wait till the thing loads again I mean it just makes it almost impossible to watch this with any kind of continuation...
What made this show so funny was its sheer stupidity. They just don't make humor like this anymore. And the fact that Mr. Douglas is the only one on the entire show with any sense and everything always backfires on him.
One of the greatest thing about this show---It was great anyway---is the way they always messed around with the credits. One show, they showed up at the end of the episode. Another show Mr Ziffel was at Douglas' door and they slid them in on him and he caught the last one. Mr Kimball and Lisa doing a funny window bit. And lots more too. lmao It was funny, really clever and stupid at the same time and if you ever needed to laugh, this is the show to make you laugh.
@storrs19 There are REAL Mr. Haneys in small towns all over he country. They think nothing of screwing over their neighbors and will never commit to a legitimate price or an agreement.
Fuking crooked bastards and they play it off as they are just good ole country bumkins.
I loved my cousin Pat. He was a wonderful actor and I miss him so much. I met him numerous times, and he was just as funny in person as on tv. I remember sitting in his living room and him telling stories about Green Acres and his meetings with Elvis..
hank3granny: You are cousins to a lot of famous people too? I am cousins to "Shotgun" Stevens and "Pistol Pez" Blakely! I used to sit around and hear stories from them about how they killed liars who claimed to be grannies and cousins to famous people. They were from down near the Montgomery area just a tad North of Muscle Shoals. Did I also tell you that Pat never knew you were his cousin. He told me so.
@hank3sgranny My entire family nicknamed my dad Mr.Haney because of Pat's character when he was 12 years old and he's now 56. They still call him Mr.Haney, he's always trying to sell something.lol
I grew up watching Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction etc and they were terrific. The ensambl cast put together for Green Acres was a stroke of genius. Mr. Heney, Mr. Kimbal, The Ziffels, and of course Arnold the pig. No vulgarity or sex appeal, a little Lisa maybe, but all in all just good simple fun.
They don't make TV like this anymore. Everything here that was funny was funny because it was funny. Today everything that's funny is only funny cause it appeals to the masses of bottom-feeders who tune in.
boy you got that right. but(and nothing personal) the general population can not..keep feeding the pigs at the cable companies and then proceed to complain about the swill thats thrown at them. if you continue to do this then you are, in fact gluttons for punishment. sorry for the rant.
I'm proud to say we don't have cable in our house. My parents won't allow it. There are SOME things I'd like to watch, but I get by with youtube and videos that I can buy. (We do have a TV, just no commercial TV service.)
good for you!! i havent had a tv since 2001. i wouldnt dream of having it back in my home now.
some one once said,"getting rid of my tv was like getting rid of a crowd of loud vulgar people in my living room" and boy they were right on i think we just liked it back then because we were kids and we'd watch anything that was animated, cheezy, had canned laughter, improbable story lines and very bad jokes.
I cancelled my tv signal back in January this year. I won't be able to make it through a football season though ! I'm gonna cave and get tv in August or September. But, the point is that TV is crap anymore.
Haney has to be the biggest T.V. con man in television history, and its amazing how Oliver always falls for his crazy schemes, when Lisa see's right though him.
Oh! By the way, did you know that the Mr. Haney character was supposed to be a one-time deal? It seems that Pat Buttram made that character so funny that they decided to make him a regular. Thank goodness!
395724 Agreed... I dont think this show was given the credit deserved! Eleanor Audley, who played Oliver's Mom, was a great Voice Actress......she was Madame Leota in Disneylands Haunted Mansion
@395724 Jay Sommers did alot of the good stuff, because I love Petticoat Junction and it was made by him, same people, same kind of ideas...bit different plot but genius. I think Petticoat Junction was before Green Acres. He also was part of Beverly Hillbillies. Check him out on IMDB.com. Greatest shows ever.
mr. haney made that show! the 'gouger.' too outrageous. i think the best one was when he sold the phone company 'lock stock n' barrel' to oliver. he made a lotta' people laugh.
RIP Pat Buttram (1915-1994), Eva Gabor (1919-1995), and Eddie Albert (1906-2005). Pat Buttram made so many television appearances, voiced the host of Lester's Possum Show (final voice) in a Goofy Movie. Most memorably a sidekick for Gene Autry.
I also love this show. Mayebe someday we will get the final three seasons on dvd. It has been 3 years or more since the last season was released on dvd.
For anybody who can get the WHT (World Harvest Television) can catch
Green Acres Weekdays on Directv channel 367. They will be playing all 6 seasons
