Such a VOICE!!! I LOVE IT and OLGA is A ONE OF THE BEST singers and one of my most FAVORITES! I am glad there are singers like OLGA so they can show the HIGHTS of VOCAL ART!!! OLGA VI CHUDO!
There aren't too many full orchestras performing without conductors. Very nearly impossible to perform large works with singers, choirs, and orchestras and no conductor.
jedna od najpoznatijih i najboljih opera svih slovenskih naroda ...fascinantna bozanstvena melodija i andjeoski glas Olge Borodine cine ovu operu jedinstvenom i neponovljivom ,vrhunsko iskustvo zaista ...Pozdrav iz Srbije!
déjà entendu Borodina en meilleure forme pour cet air, mais on ne va pas faire la fine bouche, car ça reste superbe! Quelle rondeur dans la voix et quel air magnifique! Bravo Olga!
If you want a wonderful recording of Borodina you should check out The Verdi Requiem with her as the mezzo, Renee Fleming as the soprano, Andrea Bocelli as the tenor and some italian guy as the bass. Its amazing!!!
the director is - nearly not to recognize compared to today - the phantastic Valery Gerghiev in his very early years als conductor! the chief of st. petersburg symphony orchestra. a little sensation! thank you very much for posting this nearly historic performance!
as a performer in an orchestra I can say that the Director is pretty useless. Ignorant people think they are important. The fact is it is the performers not the director that makes the orchestra. A lot of very prominent orchestras even today perform without one.
she can sing the same aria much better, concerning what she can do - this is just mediocre;
thanks a lot hotazzoperastud, though, for posting this! i do appreciate it, especially because i agree with andreasscholl a propos scarce recordings from borodina here, on youtube
I disagree. I think this aria is deceptively difficult. I did PI in college and it's really no walk through the park...mostly because it's one of Borodin's only attempts at opera and he wasn't particularly skilled at vocal repetoire. This kind of mix of legato and fioratura is hard.
"Respectable people don't write music or make love for a living"
Read some of the biographical liner notes on recordings of Borodin's music and you'll understand why he didn't write more. He was one of the greatest scientists of his time, professor, champion of women's medical education, and family man. He lamented that often he could only write music when he was too sick to do anything else, "So, reversing the usual custom...say, "I do hope you are ill."

What a stunning voice. And as to the comment about the conductor, maybe that's true for some conductors, but certainly not Gergiev.

Why aren't there more recordings from Borodina?
There were some albums, but can't find them anymore on the net or store.
Such a great voice, love Borodina.
