I really would like to give the players NAMES. If you haven't guessed it, not many videos feature the young guys... but if you want to remain hidden from view, by all means, ignore the opportunity.
The Institute Challenge is a battle between the State Institutes of Sport. Because of the swine flu scare, The NSW and SA institutes dropped out and were replaced by the VSSSA (Vic U19 Schoolboys State Team) and the AFS (Australian Football Skool), The irony was that the AFS were told they would be outclassed yet won all 3 matches and won the tournament.
JohnPemail. When a player scores a hat-trick, you'd think you could google it? Nothing. I searched Blackburn Rovers Academy, Jamie McLaren and Manchester United Academy!!!
I have to say that information about Australian players is sparse to say the least. You guys really dont do them a service
VIS scholarship holder Brodie Paterson, on his Joeys debut, scored in ther 7-0 win over Laos in the first round of Asian Qualifiers for the 2011 FIFA World Cup. Also in the team was fellow VIS scholarship holders Kobbie Boahene and Andrew Mullett. The team followed up that result with a 2-2 draw with Malaysia.
Sorry. Didnt get back to you. This is the info directly quoted from the VIS (Victorian Institute Of Sport) Newsletter: VIS scholarship holder Jamie Maclaren, currently trialling with Blackburn Rovers in England, scored a hat trick for their Academy team in a 6-2 win against Manchester United and impressed with his performance.
Australia will kick off its World Cup campaign against Germany on the 13th of June, followed by Ghana on the 19th. Our final group game will then be against Serbia on the 23rd of June, in what could prove to be a do or die clash.
I know this is spam but I couldnt resist. Extremely hard group to be in, but there weren't going to be any easy ones anyway. Up to Australia to meet the challenge.(See... I connected it with the Institute Challenge)
The 6 Australian States each have an Institute Of Sport.
Selection is supposedly made up of the best talent available. (There is always a debate whether they have selected the most talented players available, but they are undoubtedly very good players.) The Challenge is their fight-off, but the Swine Flu meant a couple dropped out and the U18 AFS filled in to complete the group fixture. The AFS were expected to lose and completely outclassed, but instead won all their matches.
ODP = Olympic Development Program in the US? Well sort of yes, almost all players that represent Australia come from one of the States Institutes.
The best of the best? Yes and No. Not all VIS players were playing. For example, 17yo VIS player Jamie McLaren was over trialing in the UK scoring a hat-trick.
U15 V U18? Yes and No. While the VIS led 1-0 the boys were definitely U15. After the 1-1 Equalizer, the older VIS players were substituted on. You can see this by the size of the players shaking hands at the end of the video.
Also, the AFS, realising the age discrepency, played at least half of their U15 squad for this very reason.
Both the VIS and AFS had a mixture of U17 and U15 players. (The AFS had 3 or 4 U18 players).
The VIS enters a team to play in the Victorian Premier League (VPL) U21 competition. The VIS (because they are the States best) are good enough to compete above their age group. For the AFS, the only player in the same VPL competition was Lukas Pedder.
You mean the size of the kids? Yes. The bigger older VIS boys were substituted when the AFS drew level at 1-1.
Supposedly, winning or losing wasnt what this was about, but this match was the decider of the winner of the Institute Challenge tournament, so you can guess a little that both sides were trying to win.
I really would like to give the players NAMES. If you haven't guessed it, not many videos feature the young guys... but if you want to remain hidden from view, by all means, ignore the opportunity.
