  • who was the soprano soloist?

  • I've often wondered about the identical trumpet call in the 4th and 5th. Basically he took the same phrase from his 4th Symphony and started his 5th with it. Seems strange.

  • This trumpet solo does foreshadow the 5th.

    Oh Mahler, you genius.

  • You have hit the nail.

  • I meant misunderstood by me. I'm not very clever and I tend to hide my staggering lack of insight behind words like "cello" and "ecumenical."

  • That's me to the left of first cello going to town on Mahler's most misunderstood movement.

  • Why his most misunderstood mov.? I'm curious now....I thought this particular trumpet solo foreshadows the 5th symphony....is this not the case?

  • I would have thought Mahler's most misunderstood movement is either first or last in the 7th :p

  • Yes, you have reasonm, the finale of 7ºsymphony, I like, I have read some abotu a parody of Brahms's fouth symphony(3rd movement in C major too).

This symphoyn(4º)was another unsucces, is a bit strange, reminds me Mozart, Haydn,Schubert in the begining, but after is a mix of modernism and clasisism, very nice, and pleasent.
